I always wonder when these articles claim that you can see the colours being more 'vibrant' how they have calibrated their displays.

It is unlikely that they are comparing them on the same display and even if they are, the PC will have many more colour options to consider.

I suspect the 'assets' or artwork, will be exactly the same for all versions and it is really framerate, resolution, and loading times which differentiate the versions.

If you do...

Ah, what was once a real giant in video gaming, is now nothing but poo on a shoe.

Quote "Included in each Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Companion Pack is a unique code users may input at www.interscope.com/guitarheroc ode to receive a unique Xbox Live code. Users may then input the Xbox Live code into their Xbox 360 console when logged into Xbox Live, to download the expansion songs. Xbox Live codes are expected to be available when Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock launches on October 28."

The games are region free but the movies are region locked. There aren't as many regions as there are in DVD, three regions in all.

Some discs are region free though according to wikipedia

It is word of mouth which will sell the PS3, not big budget advertising. If they spent money on advertising they might need to charge for online gaming, which would be really low. Charging customers to advertise to them is really bad ;o)

Once one guy in our office got a PS3, another 3 (including me) followed, and no-one is really talking about the Xbox 360 anymore (only I got Halo3)

Word of mouth is always the best seller.

it is easier I guess to try and reduce everything to a number than it is to actually try new things and empathise with other gamers ideas of a good time.

The industry has taught gamers to rely on numbers. It is still amazing to me that younger gamers get so familiar with global sales figures of their favourite consoles, and scores in reviews, rather than just playing games. I can't remember even caring when I got the Playstation, or the Dreamcast, I just wanted to play great ga...

Blu Ray has definitely made a difference when you compare this to the Transformers release. All the extras AND lossless audio. Shame that Paramount decided to choose cash over the customer.

Really looking forward to adding this to my (small) Blu ray collection

This will be the norm I think. The multi console games will be virtually identical and it will be up to the exclusives to differentiate the consoles.

As far as online multiplayer and fighting games, I think lag becomes a difficult issue to overcome, as timing is so important. It is not something I look for in a fighting game, the best of which is soul calibur anyway :o)

I agree. I really like the night vision stuff, although it looks almost 'too good' if you can say that.

Question is, do I get the Xbox version or the PS3 version? Will need to wait and see the reviews.

If they are spending this extra time to tidy up some of the issues raised from the US version that would be cool. I had this down as a rental to see if I liked it.

He doesn't have a PS3, just look at his previous comments. He is bashing Sony all the time, and blowing sunshine up MS arse.

A shame that we in Europe can't get this shooter yet, which is annoying about Sony (and Microsoft). We always get stuff late (if at all)

Hopefully it will be available to us soon.

I agree with synce. Sony are simply making a decision to reduce the price whilst keeping all the features they think are important for this generation. They have taken the negative remarks regarding price and have made a cheaper PS3. They are also taking all the negative press regarding the availability of games and are spending more time and resources on that than on backward compatibility.

As far as the 'one console per generation' rule, wageslave, then I would have liked th...

It will be interesting to see what they can come up with for the next generation (Microsoft I mean). There is little point in creating a console which can produce any more than 60fps at 1080p, which is what Ken promised us with the PS3.

I think the PS3 can still do that, judging by the early games, especially when you consider what they did with the PS2, and that gives the PS3 a healthy life.

By bringing it out early and aiming for the middle ground (720p), Micro...

I'm playing through it now, and on the last level I think (Lots of Flood in a big wet orifice thingy), and I think it is a really great game. About 10 hours so far (which puts it a little longer that Heavenly Sword, for those who say PS3 games are short :o) )

But...

I don't understand why it got all those inflated reviews and thats my problem. I don't like all the hype that surrounds this single game, more than I've ever seen in any game launch in the past.

No worries videogames4life, you obviously know more about this than I do.

All I will say is that the 360 was supposed to be making a profit by now, and the gaming division is making a big hole in Microsoft finances, a hole which is supposed to be filled by Office and Vista, both of which are being attacked by Open Source alternatives (and Vista is finding it hard to be XP to be honest)

In the end the business needs to make a profit, and its the same for Sony. Son...

Microsoft have yet to make a penny out of its 360 yet. I wonder what will happen if Microsoft do not make any money in this generation. Will the shareholders and senior management allow the console business within Microsoft to continue, or will they go back to their software roots?

Just a thought.

If we can agree that the PS3 has sold 5 million systems in its first year then the average number of consoles per week would be 100,000 wouldn't it?

I used to think there was little difference until I recently switched my projector from a PLV Z1 to the Z5. Then I watched Ghost Rider on my PS3. The quality and detail is really amazing to see. After I calibrated the colours and whatnot I played my favourite 'test DVD' which is the Phantom Menace. I could not believe the difference in detail between Blu Ray and upscaled DVD. The DVD looked as if it was out of focus.

I am sure HD DVD is the same, but the main mesaage is, that i...

Well I guess Heavenly Sword may have been a little too advanced for your abilities. :o)

Personally, looking at that video, I wonder whether we have moved on a generation. Rope bridges that don't move when you walk on them. Enemies with the same attack every time, and horrible cutscenes. God of War looks better in my opinion.
