Except OVR does have a point about Zenimax not specifying what line of code, if any, was produced on the their dime.

Carmack was fully aware of his obligations to Zenimax, as he had to deal with it with his other company. I find it hard to believe he wouldn't take steps to avoid something like this.

Maybe Zenimax does have a claim here, but if so, they ought to specify what was "stolen" from them. And why they seemed to 'not' value this...

@Lukas_Japonicus

Well if it has Morpheus support already then, at a minimum, it has to run 1080/60fps.

It really wasn't an actual "game". They were still, largely in pre-production. The E3 demo was made just for E3 and not in any way representative of the final product.

LucasArts was showing an idea but it wasn't much more than that. They showed it way earlier than most games. The story was still pretty rough and the main characters hadn't been done yet, it was just a pieced together demo.

IMO it had something to do with the sale to Disn...

@RAAMzilla

Nope, you are often wrong. It is a fact that you aren't very familiar with "mods".

While I agree Republic Commando was a good game, it was a game with a lot potential that was never fully realized. It was a good start, it was just never finished.

An unspecified "top x Star Wars games" can't not include the X-wing/TIE fighter series. They may be old but their contribution to the franchise is undeniable. And unlike Republic Commando, that series didn't come with a generous side of disappointment.

Had the first one on PS2 (I think, been a long time). It was pretty fun.

I'm considering getting this for PC, I'm just worried the port will be a mess.

We live in a world where people like Sterling have very little consequences for their actions and people are reacting to it. Being rich and white and male ( the Trifecta) means you can do just about anything without having to worry about any meaningful consequences. So we latch on to things like this.

Its wrong on certain levels, but the "system" is already unbalanced. The media is one thing, and they do over sensationalize stories for a buck, consequences be damned...

My first thought was Crysis. Not the story or anything, just what I saw looking at "gameplay".

Isn't Drive Club going to stick at 30 fps?

30 fps is good enough for TV but I think that will be problematic for VR.

The rift requires a constant 60fps for each screen, so a total of 120fps. That is like the minimum and it has to be maintained.

If I am mistaken feel free to correct me.

Well if it supports Morpheus it will have to run at a high/stable frame rate. 30fps won't cut it for VR.

I think the question is what specifically are they claiming they own. The Rift isn't the sole creation of John Carmack so they must be going after, either, something they know he created or they are "casting a net" to find something from the time he was there.

Either way it sucks.

Zenimax is probably fishing, hoping that whatever Carmack was doing with OVR would be considered theirs.

Not sure if serious.

Good for the PS4 gamers. There really isn't any reason they shouldn't look the same. That is why they chose to make it for the PS4 and XOne instead of the PS3 and 360.

@hkgamer

I think as long as gamers are a market OVR will stay in that market. You are right that gamers could lose interest. But as of right now there is no other, even potential, market.

VR is very unique as a product. Its not a brand new tech, which one could argue would be a lot easier to sell, but its a "known" tech that utterly flopped. A "flop" that is still fresh in the minds of the mass market.

The price will vary ...

Yea, this is most likely the case. There really isn't some magical device that made VR work suddenly. The Rift was using off the shelf components.

4361d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

I highly doubt he took any physical piece of tech that was the one thing that made it all work. Sounds far more like Carmack took his ideas that he worked on while at Zenimax to OVR.

They probably had some sort of contract which detailed that whatever he did at Zenimax, Zenimax owned.

I mean, whatever was being worked on at Zenimax was most likely being worked on by Carmack. I doubt it was a situation where Zenimax had the secret to VR tucked away in their v...

It will, but Sony has to be extra careful about the games being released for it. The PS4 is right at the bleeding edge of being able to use VR, but focusing on building a VR game with in the PS4 specs will make it possible.

I would be skeptical if the Rift was compatible for the PS4 and that was the only option. If I were a PS4 gamer, I really wouldn't want anyone but Sony making a headset for the PS4 IMO.

Sony wants to expand VR beyond gaming as well, they said as much when they announced it.

The reality is both Sony and OVR are trying to build a foundation for VR. That is going to be almost exclusively gamers for at least 5 years. Each device being exclusive to its platform allows both companies to focus on creating the best device in order to build that foundation.

Sony is creating a device to work on a single hardware setup and the Rift was designed for PCs...

You going to buy a $400 Rift for FB apps?

Are FB users?

No.

And Sony also has wants to expand VR beyond gaming as well. So I guess that must mean Morpheus won't be for games either... Right, that makes no sense at all.

Contrary to popular belief, you can use VR for more than one thing at a time. It's not like if NASA went to OVR for a device that OVR would say "Well, guess we have to stop selling the Rift for gam...
