No, they are competing for the same space. That "space" doesn't exist yet. Not only that, they are on different platforms. And given how expensive VR will be over the next few years the markets in the beginning will much more defined.

That's what they both want at the start. Sony builds a foundation for a market on consoles and OVR builds one on the PC. Once an overall market becomes a reality, then they can start pushing for the same "spaces", wha...

I disagree. It confirms that the story will be canon, whether its any good is another thing all together.

Now, EA being in charge of making games with the SW license is certainly better than LucasArts. But I am extremely skeptical until I see what Disney intends to do with the franchise. They've had successes with existing franchises but also some failures.

Its been quite a while since I've been wow'ed by anything with Star Wars attached to it. Th...

Makes perfect sense.

VR is a special case in that its a tech that has already failed to connect to any market once before.

Its an engineering problem, and under those conditions "competition" would only do more harm than good right now. In the future, sure, but not now.

Its not like the consoles themselves which were just refining tech in an existing market. In that way competition is fine. There was already a very large market to ...

Worth mentioning that Freelancer is still being played with some of the craziest mods ever done for a game.

@ALICE666

100% with you there. TIE fighter was my first love. Then came Wing Commander and Freespace 1 and 2 and others. All great moments for me as well.

There really isn't two sides to the issue here. You are wrong. Simple as that. Your "opinion" is based on false information.

Crowd funding for games is an alternative to waiting for publishers to pull their head out of their collective asses and take a risk.

Space combat sims were great games yet the genre was too risky and was killed. We were left with very small teams (sometimes only a single person) creating ambitious titles on a woefully sma...

If you have to resort to petty insults, your opinion is worth less than nothing.

Acting like her, not entirely unreasonable, opinion is the end of your world.

Way to be the biggest douchebag here.

@midnight_23

I had no preconceived notions about this game or Bungie.

When I saw the reveal I didn't see anything epic or ambitious about it. I was genuinely confused by what people were claiming. Its a shooter with bits of MMO thrown in, hardly the second coming. It looks good, not the greatest thing ever.

You would think that getting burned by hype would produce a bit more skepticism in gamers. As we can see right here, even having so-s...

Kind of funny that everyone upset by the article has already made their opinion sight unseen. Ohh gamer rage.

Don't worry, if you've convinced yourself its great having not played it at all, then it will be. You will make sure of that.

Unrealistic and even hasty deadlines aren't good but there's got to be something.

I don't care for the "When its done" mentality about as much as a rush job.

"Discarding" the EU could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it.

Lucas' approach to the EU was very haphazard. The man practically invented the "retconn". Everything was canon until Lucas uses his horrible ideas and messes everything up.

Someone taking control of the license and making everyone follow what is canon could help a lot. Of course, if Disney has horrible ideas, well...

Oh I think there is a purpose to the title. And I don't believe it was for clicks either. I was very tempted to think so at first, but after reading the article, not so much.

IMO, this article and its title are actually celebrating Dark Souls.

4299d ago 0 agree1 disagreeView comment

I wonder if the title is sort of a metaphor for something.

See you really have to set aside the blind rage long enough to even get to the article. Then you actually have to keep that rage in check long enough to read said article, which is pretty long-winded and tough to get through.

Suffice to say, I don't think he means to say "Dark Souls 2 is the worst game ever made" in a literal sense.

@Battlefieldlover

Yea yea, heard all that before, you are forgetting one thing though, "competition" requires a "market" to compete in.

VR is hopes and dreams right now. Most seem to forget this. VR can still fail to take hold, and that has NOTHING to do with competition. If VR fails, it remains a niche peripheral. This is an expensive venture for all involved.

Sony, OVR, and Facebook both have the same goal, convince the ...

Always with the "competition". This is NOT a competition and won't be for many years.

See Sony, for all their greatness, simply can't do VR by itself. It doesn't have the market reach or the money. Sure they could make a great little peripheral for the PS4, but that's where it stays.

What Facebook and OVR bring to the table is market reach and money that VR (not just one company) needs. Sony has breathing room now. They can develop w...

Wrong. There is a reason to believe they will diverge in that philosophy.

Its called money. Now in order to put there whole "data collection" plan into action they have to sell a $400 device you strap to your head. The ONLY people willing to buy that are gamers.

Last I heard, gamers weren't too thrilled about about buying a FaceRift. So how is FB going to sell and expensive device that nobody wants?

They have every reason not t...

@Naga

I really don't understand this idea that the Rift is a singular device that can only have a singular purpose.

I honestly don't care what FB wants to do with VR. I don't see the wisdom in arbitrarily stopping OVR from making the Rift for games as long as there is a market for it. FB could make a separate device if they want to or even develop other ways to use the Rift.

Why is it one or the other? This isn't some game fr...

According to the article its a Star Wars game, so not a new IP and just like the rest Star Wars is there because it sells.
