This is why both Sony and OVR need each other. Despite being able to design and manufacture a quality HMD, they simply couldn't make the kind of push OVR can.

Once VR becomes viable and accepted Sony won't have much trouble getting console gamers to, not just be excited by Morpheus, but actually buy it.

Had Facebook not purchased OVR, VR would have remained niche and expensive.

Vr may still fail, but at least OVR and Sony are givin...

@KinjoTakemura

1. Kickstarter was before the Facebook deal.

2. Around $300 is actually not the $600 to $1000 you pulled out of thin air.

Because of the Facebook deal getting the Rift to consumers is much more important than trying to make a tidy profit on each one.

Sony wants that to happen as well. They can produce a VR HMD of outstanding quality, but as a large company with so many priorities they simply can't go &quo...

Really MS? Just let it die already.

How are they supposed to support themselves if Valve has all the money? That is the point of it to begin with.

Not all early access games are scams, there are some great titles in there.

What I don't honestly understand is why consumers need protection in the first place. Its optional and clearly states the risks involved. What else do you need?

Seriously, if you are aware that a game may not be finished and updates may not be consistent,...

I has to do with the 3 act structure of a narrative.

That's usually why you get a "trilogy".

This can pertain to one continuous narrative that is split in to 3 games or 3 different parts of a single game. Basically, beginning, middle, and end.

That makes sense.

$30,000 is all they need? Their goals seem a little out of proportion with that amount.

Wonder why whoever still controls the STALKER license won't go on Kickstarter. Far as I can tell a genuine addition to the series would get lots more support.

If you don't like what is being offered then what do you want me to say?

You could easily search Steam or GoG for the genres you desire, but really if you are avoiding "indies" then I really don't know what to tell you.

There is almost nothing out there like the STALKER series that I can think of.

There are one or two games in the "C&C" style of RTS, but those are indies. Plenty of 4x titles like Civ. Company ...

AMD cards can use this feature.

Whether the consoles can/do use it, I don't know.

CoD Ghosts uses it.

Sounds like you prefer console games, so you should probably stick with them.

I rather enjoyed the early access titles I have. How was I "robbed"?

Seriously, your problem with early access can be solved in one simple way -----> ignore it.

What do you care what other people buy? All you have to do is wait until its a full release. So what's the problem?

@DragonKnight

LOL. I mean you are really going at it.

I'm not going to debate that women are sexually harassed. That is a fact. Are men harassed? Yes. Is it the same? No. Its simply not. Argue all you want its all still wrong.

Whatever, you don't really care anyway. You are doing your best to convince someone of...something.

Seriously? Being just a decent human being is...debatable?

4238d ago 5 agree6 disagreeView comment

Sexual harassment actually exists come on. Talk about being willfully ignorant.

Men and women are not sexually harassed "equally". That is just stupid. While it may not happen that often is it really so bad to step up and confront the douchbags?

I love how you turn it back on her by saying this was some sneaky attempt to create controversy. Grow up, no one is saying you're a sexist pig or trying to take your precious video games away.

Ummm? Which version of Witcher 2 did you play? I played the Steam US version and it wasn't censored at all, that I could tell. (Unless it went full on porn in other versions.)

Wait, did you think that characters in video games were always the product of absolutely unhindered creativity?

And "Next, movies and books and on and on."? Really? Welcome to the world of mass media, where art is very often designed to sell rather than be totally creative. Artists are always forced to do one thing or another no matter the medium.

This idea that the "artist" has total creative authority is laughable. And yes, I can imagi...

You forgot 2 wars and.... oh wait that was the other guy.

What? did you think everything was going just dandy eight years ago? By going into Iraq we got rid of the guy who kept the very thing that's happening now from happening.

God if McCain were President, with that dingbat as VP, *shivers*. Or that mannequin, Romney, though in all fairness he would have been far better than McCain.

@BattleAxe

Except they explicitly said they are NOT developing an HMD of their own. They said that right after GDC.

Shortly after, all the folks working on VR related stuff at Valve left for OVR.

So unless you have Gabe saying otherwise, that matter is pretty much settled for now.

They pretty much understood the reality here. Valve may have money, but OVR has substantially more and can throw everything they have into the Rift...

So how many have they sold so far?

Rift DK2 sold 12,500 unit in 36 hours and a total of 25,000 (or so) units total, at a $350 price point too.

Morpheus will do fine, it really is in good hands with Sony, but its a little early for such bold predictions.

Lets hope PS4 gamers are actually willing to pony up the dough for it.

4241d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

A "fixed" hardware platform is a major disadvantage with VR. I submit its going to be Sony's biggest challenge.

All OVR has to worry about is having the best HMD they can possibly engineer and let PC gamers worry about the hardware. Same with game developers too.

I would be genuinely be shocked if they walled off the Rift, it makes no logical sense at all. You go where the money is, and the money for the Rift is PC gamers with moderately high-e...

@Volkama

The android based OS was/is there to add mobility to the Rift. Though I'm pretty sure that comes later.

They want a mobile version of it someday.

Facebook wants to sell the Rift. They want it to be every where. Core gamers, mobile gamers, schools, etc. What they want is anyone considering "VR", in any capacity, to think "Oculus Rift".

They don't need to flash ads in peoples faces to make m...
