Bad idea.
Make the progress just slow enough and flash that real money option just enough that its hard to resist.
The entire game will be built around that concept.
That is true, but the article referred to an instance where a developer is adding a pretty extreme stretch goal for OR support.
I think its treading really close to "cashing in" territory, rather than a "We have to have X amount to do this" thing.
I don't know, but it is something these devs should be cautious of.
It really was.
For me, it changed what I thought "Farcry" should be and made it in to a series that isn't tied to a single theme or set of circumstances, story wise.
They have complete freedom to take the series in any direction they want, as long as the mechanics remain familiar.
FC2 wasn't without its problems, but it was good enough to break away from its roots and become something adaptable.

Kerbal Space Program should be on the list as well.
It looked good, hardly mind-blowing.
The only thing I really noticed was the size of the pieces, beyond that it was pretty basic particle stuff. Granted, the amount of particles was impressive, but its hardly ground breaking, especially for Cryengine.
Consider this was only particles made in the form of a wall and set to collide. They don't "act" as one single structure. They bounce and collide, but that's it.
Yes please!!
That detail wasn't especially high.
I am going to have trouble actually explaining in detail why I (sort of) disagree.
Suffice it to say that, my first reaction to it was that it was very doable.
Whether we see these effects, I don't know, but I don't think it is a "tech" issue.
@Pro_TactX
Umm I'm pretty sure Daggerfall was quite a bit larger than 62 square miles. Like a lot larger.
Daggerfall was like 62,000 square miles.
Just Cause 2 was 400 sq. miles.
So regardless, Witcher 3 isn't even in the same ballpark.
The title is a bit misleading as this was not actually confirmed by CDPR.
Well, lets not jump the gun here. CDPR originally said it would be 20% larger than Skyrim.
Not saying they couldn't have made it larger, but from 20% to 350%? I don't know.
There's the fact that these "maps" were used to discuss something (somewhat) unrelated to the actual game itself but a small part of it. Meaning it could have been that they were using tech and assets that they are using in an exaggerated way to show off the system th...
Ummm I think this might be a mistake. 20% to 350% is a rather big jump. There could be a misunderstanding here.
Played D3 at release and really didn't like it at all.
Its completely different now. The Auction house was really a cancer on the whole thing.
Diablo 3 is far better now. In fact as someone who hated, and still does, the "always online" part of it, the new changes make that tolerable.
Why Forza?
Not that its bad or anything, but that market is kind of saturated at the moment.
Same with MSFS. While not saturated, there is some competition there.
MS really just gave up on the PC games market. And to be honest I really don't think they want try and establish themselves beyond the Win platform.
And really, Freelance should have been there.
No Freelancer?
Truth be told the PC could live without Flight sim, there are better titles out there.
IMO this was never about violence, it was about getting attention. For some it was needing a punching bag or bad guy to fight and show others they were worth something.
Humans fear what we don't understand. Older generations tend to fear things younger generation accept. And count on everyone in the middle to exploit that to cash in.
I don't actually think it has to do with the actual content of the games, as that is often something completely ignore...
I'm actually not 'that' surprised about the poll. The WiiU gamers have been pretty hyped for the game.
Hope the hype turns to sales. Good for WiiU gamers.
Guessing Ubisoft needs to do a bit of house cleaning in the PR dept.
10?! Really? Its an 8 at the very best.
Paid review if I ever saw one.
Valve gets a cut, according to the article.
Though my BS sense is pretty sensitive on 4/1 so actual confirmations would help.
@Summons75
We'll see, though there is no facts to back up your speculation.
And a list of the developers that were seriously developing software for the OR and have since cancelled a planned release in some stage of development would be nice.
Seriously, I haven't seen any other announcements aside from Notch.
Notch doesn't count as he had only briefly discussed doing a throw away version of Minecraft.

@blackbirdi
That is just an awful mess of letters you posted but I'll try and respond.
1. You think Star Citizen isn't worth $40 million. Good for you, others disagree. Which is the reason for the $40 million.
2. Roberts didn't need the money. Just because one is rich doesn't mean they can personally afford to fund a AAA title. In fact that sort of thing is almost never done in movies or games.
3. Ahh yes, &qu...
