First off, Lara Croft doesn't get raped. People really need to stop referring to it that way.

Second, the relationship between gamers and developers is symbiotic. One can't exist with out the other. We as gamers are asked to fork over 60$+ on the promise that the "art" we are purchasing is good. For some reason though, we aren't allowed to say it isn't. When we do, game journalists (some of whom don't pay for game they review) lash out us saying...

As far as Deus Ex is concerned, the ending was what I expected. What I didn't expect was BioWare to turn around and do the same thing.

Furthermore, at least Deus Ex established the character giving you the choices early on. BioWare seemingly pulled the space-brat out of no where.

ME3's ending managed to be both unoriginal and horribly written at the same time. It was made all the worse by the standard they set in the same game.

Not likely.

We go from Sovereign and Harbinger to space-brat. In no way can that ever be considered a good idea.

10/10 is talking to Sovereign on Virmire.

Space-brat and hastily filled plot holes falls well short of that.

Agreed.

While not everything should be remade there are exceptions. Like Freespace, or any space combat sim. Except X-Wing/TIE Fighter if LucasArts is involved in anything more than granting permission to use the license.

I would prefer new and original ideas, but there are a few games out there that need to brought into this gen.

So you require what? 100 hour minimum before you can have an opinion?

Was any actual thought put into your comment?

My money says HL3 will debut with Source 2. Source is a great engine but its starting to show its age.

I would assume so. You can cure yourself anytime with those witch heads.

Well said. Bubble to you sir.

To write all that about a non-issue is such a waste. Considering the scene in question has more to do with Lara killing someone rather than the "rape" that doesn't happen in the first place. I don't actually dissagree with the main idea of the article, just that it has any relevence to Tomb Raider.

At worst the scene is an overused cliche, at best it serves to bring much needed depth to a underdeveloped character. Could they have done this differently? Sure...

What precedent? They didn't charge for it. What would be the point of releasing half finished games only to add things later at no charge? Logically it doesn't make sense.

And if publishers want to start charging for endings, then that's on gamers to put a stop to it.

IMO whether the first 2 were scary or not is irrelevant. All I know is that the 20 clip released last week was boring. I saw nothing original at all. Just my opinion though.

Everyone hates gamers, even gamers themselves.

@trebius

What YOU find fun may be much different than what others find fun. Your huge ego blinds you to that fact.

My point (which your massive ego also blocked from view) is that challenge can be more than just a return to health pick-ups and no saving. I much prefer smarter AI over ridiculous health pick-ups.

I couldn't care less what difficulty setting you or anyone else plays on. It doesn't make you better. Nor does playing an At...

Right, because games need to be more frustrating and less fun.

Challenge does not always equal fun. Besides, there are less archaic ways of providing challenge without adding needless frustration.

@swat_teem

The Final Hours app was the first nail. Then the announcement of the extended cut was the final one.

Its been pretty clear for a while now nothing was planned. The original ending was supposed to be about Dark energy and how the use of eezo was causing it to increase. The Reaper's motive was to wipe us out to spot the rise in Dark energy. The choice we would have been given was to be wiped out, take our chances to halt the rise in DE ourselves...

The 8ft tall jellyfish and all the other "wacky" races are explained in the codex, the foundation of the game world. All the tech is explained as well. The codex grounds you in the universe and helps suspend disbelief.

You know what's not in the codex? The ending.

Space-brat shows up at at the last minute, says he created the Reapers, and gives you a choice between; shooting a tube, grabbing electrified sticks, and jumping into light.

Agree. Priority: Earth was a mess. ME2 had a far better final mission. Minus the human reaper of course.

My problem with D3 is that it feels like I'm being forced to play their way. Its like watching a movie, in that I don't have any ownership over the experience.

Ha, that'll be the day. Gears of Space 4 coming soon.

If history proves anything, the people bitching the most are gonna get it day one. We all know it. This game will out-sell the first 2 by a long shot.

It will get 2 sequels, each worse than the last, and after a brief hiatus someone will come along to take the series back to its survival horror roots in a reboot.

Seriously?! Indoc was very interesting the first week of release, but its been proven false for months now. There is no 90%, it wasn't planned, it was just poor writing and lack of time.

I wanted to believe there was no way BW could screw it up so badly, but they did.
