Hmm...

I didn't really enjoy Gears at all.

Because:
Bad physics, bad destructibility ,bad AI, horrendous music, excruciatingly bad dialogue, no jumping (though I don't think I could jump if my shoes were that big either), no real story, repetitive game play broken up with poorly designed, frustrating boss and vehicle sections, restrictive environments.

Really all we're left with is the graphics and I didn't care much for the art direction o...

I think it's pretty fair to argue that "production issues" are the reason behind why the 360 had a lackluster first 6 months. But it's not a like a natural disaster - it's their fault, so I don't think it's fair to use as an excuse as to why the PS3 had a smoother launch etc.

Did anybody else notice how hard he shilled EA games at the press conference - very interesting. I haven't been a fan of his, but I know that a lot of the nonsense that came out of his mouth was just him doing job for Microsoft. On to greener pastures I suppose.

I've been saying, mostly to myself, since before the PS3 came out (you know, the old days) that it looked like the PS3 would supplant the Xbox as the hardcore gaming platform of choice. I've always thought that the Xbox was popular with the hardcore crowd because of the standard HD and what that allows mod-wise. It seems to me that Sony has taken a cue from the Xbox and made the PS3 the uber-platform for doing things with your console other than just regular old playing games (not that there'...

I agree. The 80 gig only really makes sense as an upgrade - and what do you do when you upgrade? You lower the price of the old model to clear out the stock. After that happens I really think the 80 will come down in price as well, probably without the pack in.

Four player split-screen is lots of fun. Can't wait to try this one out (no beta :( )

I think it's the media wanting a better story than "Sony. still good". They've had some missteps, but PS3 had a better launch than PS2 and it's selling better as well so what's the big deal. "The mighty Sony has fallen" is a far more interesting headline. So I think the media has a lot to do with that and people have just picked it up from there. It's still way to early for people to be making any sort of judgements about who'll "win" this generation.

I think it could be really cool. It's not easy to meet cool people to play games you like online with and Home could really facilitate that in a way that we haven't seen before.

I'm really interested to see that website that goes along with Home, which is a brilliant idea, so you can keep up with people while away from your PS3.

I wish we could build our own houses etc, that would be awesome.

They showed this on AOTS today - which was lame - and I was like "hey it's that lame old photoshopped controller".

If Sony did that to their controller I wouldn't buy it. Even with TouchSense. Good thing they aren't so stupid that they'd change it like that. Symmetrical analog sticks FTW.

I totally agree - the 360 D-pad is useless. Trying to use it to quick select in Oblivion = frustration.

What is he talking about?? What's he going to say when MGS4 and FF13 are out and PS3s are flying off the shelves?

Personally I'm not sold on Lair yet - gonna have to wait for the reviews and see. Lots to look at, but I don't know if the game play will be all that.

That's a great point - wouldn't really surprise me. Pack-ins are generally a pretty limited run sort of thing and I figure they're doing it to help justify the $100 difference between the 60 and 80.

I was reading somewhere that 80 gig drives are about the same and may cost less than 60 gig drive, if not now then soon, so bumping it up to 80 would make a lot of sense. If they can save hardware costs and offer a better value at the same time - that's what you call win-win, win. ...

Very impressive.

A lot is being said about the dark and the gray. It makes sense with the Helghast using the weather based weapons etc, but I hope it's not like that the whole game.

I think it remains to be seen if it was better or worse, ultimately, for the industry. If the point is just to generate a ton of "buzz" or "hype" then maybe it was worse. But if the point is to actually get info out about what's going on in the Industry to the press and thereby gamers I think it's probably better. Everything I've heard from journalists was about how much nicer it was. And I think dev's appreciated not having an imposed artificial deadline.

I think one of the differences about E3 this time was that it was more about showing things that are actually coming soon as opposed to just things that people are working on. Gone are the days of showing a game at E3 7 years in a row, well maybe. I think that would be for the best. Sure we want to see everything, but if it's not coming out for 12, 18, or more months it's not really worth the dev's time to get it ready to show.

If they are phasing out the 60, and I think they must be, then I'd think they'd have to drop the price of the 80 once the 60s are gone. Otherwise it's and effective price increase and that's just not gonna fly with consumers. Say someone goes to the store "I'll have one of those $499 PS3s please." "Sorry we're out." "When will you get more?" "Never. It's only $599 now" Customer flies into a rage.

I also don't think they'll run out of 60s ...

No offense meant or anything (Microsoft does sometimes charge a bit too much IMHO), but I'm pretty sure the reason electronics always cost more in the UK is because of your tax structure.
