So, Sony's 'stupid' because they created a console with policies, features, and price that have garnered them over 1,000,000 pre-orders for PS4? Do you honestly see that as a bad thing?
We all have our preferences, but there's also common sense. MS wouldn't have had to change their initial policy and vision of XB1 if they screwed the pooch royally in the first place. They changed things because the console launch consumers flat-out rejected their initial p...
You would have had a case that XB1 was a 'true next gen console' if MS had stuck to their original vision for it. But consumer sentiment proved that people don't care for 'next gen experiences.' If the cloud, and the dedicated servers, and the Kinect integration were so enticing and exciting for gamers, they would have pre-ordered the XB1 in droves after its reveal and after E3.
They didn't.
Sony learned the problems of attempting to ...
'Rime' and 'Everybody's Gone to The Rapture' were my favourite parts of Sony's presentation. Indies are a big reason behind my PS4 purchase. I enjoy AAA gaming, but sometimes I just want to play something different, something outside current commercial tastes.
I'm pleased that Sony has made such a strong commitment to working with indie teams. It allows them to bring games to market that would not have the chance for that sort of exposure otherwise...
MS is the company that has completely abandoned its initial vision for XB1, not Sony. How is that innovative?
Having the PS Eye as an optional product won't alienate gamers. Those who want to use it can purchase it with the PS4. MS' stance on Kinect is why I'm not purchasing one. I won't pay for a peripheral that's useless too me, so MS including it in the box has alienated me for XB1.
Why is it considered arrogant to point out the difference between your approach to your product compared to your competitor's? It's not as if he insulted MS or XB1. He didn't spray grafitti over an XB1 case.
The 'MS-as-victim' complex is laughable.
Cannot wait for November 15th. After E3 and Gamescon, it's clear that PS4 is definitely the best choice for me. If TGS provides me with some PS4 JRPGs, I'll be well and truly set.
What a difference between the start of this coming gen and 2005-2006.
So, I guess you missed announcements like 'Rime,' and 'Everybody's Gone to The Rapture'?
You may not be a fan of indie team games, but they were announced. Sony also announced cross-gen purchase discounts for people who buy PS3 versions of select titles and then want digital versions of their PS4 counterparts.
And it's not a cheap shot to point out how your policies and vision haven't changed in comparison to your competitor's....
I really enjoyed the conference. To me, it was better than their E3 presser. I want to see more from 'Rime' and 'Everybody's Gone to The Rapture,' in particular, and I was pleasantly surprised at the 'Minecraft' announcement. I haven't played it before, and I'm looking forward to doing so once it releases on PS4.
Hopefully, TGS will see announcements of some exclusive JRPGs.
I don't think Sony are screwed, even if MS can manage to launch earlier. That lower price point is still important.
If MS can manage the supply chain and get consoles on shelves beforehand, it would be a great move for them.
@Leon - where I live in Canada, I'll pay 13% tax on PS4, so I'll end up paying $451.99 by the time all's said and done. And that's without any PS4 game purchases.
So, it's petty to stress how your product and policies differ from those of the competition?
It's not as if he had one of the XB1 consoles on stage and proceeded to smash it with a baseball bat or something. Nor did he make any ridiculous, hyperbolic statements about how PS4 would destroy XB1 in sales.
He simply stated a fact, that Sony had created a vision for PS4 and stuck to their approach. It's not Sony's fault that MS has, essentially, st...
Not me.
Edit: lol@disagrees. I haven't played 'Minecraft' before. I was waiting for a release on a PS console, and I'm glad I waited. Carry on disagreeing, though. It's hilarious.
Or GT6 Prologue pack-in. That would be a gigaton, lol.
Meh. MS is facing heat because of the absolute debacle that was the XB1 reveal. It's no different than the crap Sony got pre-PS3 launch. MS isn't the innocent victim of a smear campaign. It's a multi-billion dollar corporation that created a product that wasn't seeing strong enough pre-orders. Anyone who thinks MS changed the XB1 policies because gamers were bitching and moaning on the Internet is deluding themselves. The cold, hard truth is that the XB1 wasn't seeing stro...
People have a clear-cut choice. I'm not buying XB1, because of the included Kinect and won't pay for an included peripheral that's useless to me. If, down the line, MS decides to release a SKU that doesn't include Kinect, I may well purchase XB1 depending on its games library at that time.
It sucks if you're an XBox gamer and don't want to pay for the included Kinect, but you really only have 3 options: - suck it up and buy XB1 anyway, buy a PS4 and wa...
Agreed. If nothing else, this current gen proved that a higher price can hinder a console's adoption. It didn't matter that the launch model PS3s were backwards-compatible and the cheapest Blu-Ray players on the market at that time. The price tag was too high for the average consumer.
Price is a stronger factor than some people realize.
I think for some gamers, it may come down to which console their friends intend to buy. If I'd been an XBox gamer for years, and built up a Gamerscore, Achievements, and Friends List over that time, I'd be more inclined to purchase XB1, just because of the time I'd already invested with previous MS consoles. Vice-versa for PS3 gamers.
I wonder how many people decide to buy a console based solely on the console they had the previous gen?
I don't think Sony is threatened as much as pointing out the differences between its approach to PS4 and MS' approach to XB1. It's not as if they came out and said they were going to "destroy" MS at Gamescon.
