Wondering where the time went
CRank: 5Score: 53410

It will all come down to the size of the install base. If XB1 has the larger install base, devs will tailor code for it, as happened with multiplats during this current generation.

But if PS4 outsells the XB1 handily, then I can see PS4 having the superior experience for multiplats.

It really just depends on which console is more successful in the marketplace.

The Vita is a fantastic device. The screen provides gorgeous video display for streaming apps like Netflix. Most of my Vita game library is digital, and I've enjoyed discovering great titles like "Quell: Memento."

I bought it at launch and haven't regretted it. Sony needs to drop the price of the Vita and the memory cards. Securing some more apps for it would be great, too.

It didn't convince me, no. Why would anyone's opinion on a purchase be swayed by an unboxing video anyway?

The article points out some of the challenges Sony faces, particularly with the weakening Yen ahead of the PS4 launch, but it also points out that, while the bottom line at the Games unit will suffer as a result of that currency issue, the company as a whole will see a boost in total revenue.

Even the guy that pushed for sale of part of Sony's entertainment unit "praised Sony executives on their management of the introduction so far."

It's a strong list. Unfortunately, the media partnerships don't mean squat to those of us outside the US.

Digital downloads are a great option. Most of my PC and Vita libraries are digital, and it's really convenient to be able to play the games without needing the physical media, especially if you don't have a cap on your Internet usage.

Granted, I'm still a game collector at heart, so I'll always buy certain games to have the physical discs, cases, etc. for my collection.

Timed exclusivity has never impacted my decision to purchase a console. I have no problem waiting for a game to come out on a console I already own. Now, if a game is truly exclusive, that's a different case entirely, but timed exclusivity means nothing to me.

I think it's great that MS has reversed some of the problematic elements of X1. I'm still getting a PS4 at launch and have no plans on picking up X1 unless and until it comes without Kinect.

Too bad. I'd have bought them Day 1.

Thanks, Sony. Announce some games for Vita (and a memory card price cut) while you're at it.

This blog really strikes a chord with me. I'm physically disabled, and I've been unable to stand or walk unaided for the last 25+ years. Gaming allows me to take a break from the confines of my day-to-day life and imagine what it would be like to run parkour, travel the world of Ivalice, or live an adventurer's life in Skyrim.

That's why I'll always game (at least as long as I'm physically and mentally able to do so). It's brought so much joy to my...

Thanks for the tip, Hicken. All I need now is some free time to play this and 'Dragon's Crown.'

What a pointless article. All game consoles use electricity. If you're concerned about how much power they consume, gaming clearly isn't the hobby for you.

I don't think the UK market is as tied to the XBox brand as the U.S. market is, especially given that many of the media capabilities of XB1 are limited to the U.S. I think XB1 will do well in its home market, but I think Sony has a clear edge globally.

It will be interesting to see how the sales pan out once both consoles launch.

Oh, well, guess I'm a not a 'true gamer,' then. I'll have to sell all the consoles and games I've collected over the past few decades and take up gardening or something.

Or maybe fishing. I could park my wheelchair on the shore of the lake and reel 'em in.

@JBSleek - All we're seeing is simply the reverse of the site in 2006-2007, with MS and XB1 in the vocal minority, the position occupied by Sony/PS3 gamers during the start of the current console cycle. The shoe is now on the other foot, as the saying goes.

I'm sure MS will do well in the domestic market (at least initially), given that XBox has a sizeable fanbase, but digital licensing agreements prevent its entertainment-focused features from being usable outside the U.S. Couple that with PS4's lower price, and I think Sony will dominate globally.

It works the other way as well. Some of the anti-Sony camp like to comment on PS4-related articles.

As of right now, I'm not going to buy an X1 unless and until a Kinect-less unit is released, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested in the platform. I like to follow gaming news, and X1 is a part of the industry.

There's no reason for me to justify my decision to buy PS4. It's simply the better choice for me. That doesn't mean I'm ...

I can't see the One pulling away, especially in the global market. It may well establish itself as the leader in the U.S over time (though I think the PS4 will have stronger initial sales given its lower price point), but I can't see it having nearly as much international appeal with its heavily US-centric digital TV deals and features.

For those of us outside the U.S., the one is simply another game console because of those digital licensing restrictions. Therefore, ...

I really enjoy indie games. 'Quell: Memento,' for example, is one of the best puzzle games I've ever played. Indies offer us a chance to play games that slip below the radar of the big publishers. Sometimes these games are fantastic. Other times, they're duds. Regardless, there's a lot of fun in discovering something new that you might not have played otherwise.
