As a dev, I know Neo is launching this year and that all developers are forced to deliver a Neo enhanced experience for all games launching after the Neo. FFXV will probably slide in before the Neo, so it's not bound to these rules set by Sony but I'd be very surprised if they didn't patch it for the Neo. And it's not necessarily 4k that will be featured in Neo games, Devs have a choice.
As for the Scorpio, it's a year away so I am not sure how many peop...
Too much to read :).
Usually a huge Zelda fan but this game, at least the videos, make it look boring. Hope you get the horse fast. I can't help but to feel the graphics are so dated and it really does affect my experience. I'm happy for you guys who don't care about graphics or its affects on immersion.
And it's not just the obvious, like vegetation, resolution etc., it's the number of animations they can put in, amount of bones they can use, things that actually affect ga...
Seeing as how Infamous Second Son still looks fantastic and was released within a few months of the launch of the PS4, there was never any doubt in my mind that this was real-time on current PS4. I feel there are some people who are so quick to scream "Neo" now every time a good looking PS4 game is released, forgetting that they've just played Uncharted 4 (or did they?).
An example, God of War developers SSM always matched Uncharted when it came to graphics, ...
PS2 era was a long time ago and Activisions games on the PS3 never achieved the quality of Insomniac's Infamous games. I hope Marvel keep putting great Marvel characters in the hands of great studios. That trailer was one of the big highlights of E3, despite being so short. It captured Spiderman perfectly, and if we can move like that in game (like the restaurant scene), this will be a class of its own as far as super hero games go. Infamous Second Son was underrated, even if its story wa...
@Genuine-User HDR? Do you even know what HDR is? It's high dynamic range, and we've had it since Half-Life 2. There's not a current console game (rendered "realistically") that doesn't use HDR.
Scorpio being 9th gen makes no sense if you know game development. Devs are told to use Neo's power as they see fit, 4k or whatever else, it's up to them but they are told that every PS4 game developed from now on must offer Neo enhancements -- I know this for a fact.
The reason we have games like Uncharted 4 and Driveclub that competes with the best of PC is because devs can utilize the specs 100%. On PC you need to set a target and then make bonuses for the hardc...
@b1163o1 I don't know, everyone said that about Battlefront and it lived up to expectations when it came to the Endor section... Yes, at 900p, but at 60fps I'll take it on a console. I mostly game on PC, but they generally do a pretty amazing job on consoles. I don't get why Mirror's Edge is 720p on XB1 and why some textures are very low res but still, Battlefront is a better comparison and probably the same team that is doing Battlefield 1.
I didn't like the first game that much, but it was cross-gen. This looks, at least in the graphics department, amazing. I really do hope it has a SP campaign like the rumors suggest. Can't wait for 8h 20m (from the time of posting this message).
@rezzah couldn't agree more, that's what I want to see too! Might not be these graphics considering the extra physics they need to push, but should be close!
The game comes with a complete story mode. On top of that, If you don't want to create, you can download other people's "dreams". For creators, you can access all assets that other people have made to make your own game.
This is one of THE most innovative titles I've seen in ages. Doesn't mean it's going to be the best game ever, but it's incredible from so many points of views. The voxel based engine itself is worth admiring as no one's ...
Look at the spectrum of diverse titles we have these days:
On one end; Story driven games with barely any action like, all with unique visual styles like Firewatch, The Witness, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Journey, Everyone's gone to Rapture, Unravel...
Another end; Great open world games like Tomb Raider (which is semi open world), Assassin's Creed Syndicate, GTA V, Metal Gear Solid, Dying Light, Batman,
Linear action; Uncharted,...
Yeah I am sorry but I think it's BS. There's never been more diversity in gaming thanks to indie movement. We have games like Firewatch and The Witness as well as fantastic diverse triple A open world titles, linear action games, massive RPGs. Having been gaming since the C64, I've never seen more diversity and forward momentum in gaming. I've never really liked Warren Spector's statements. He lives off his work on Deus Ex and Syndicate and hasn't really made anything ...
Did people even read the neogaf post this is referring to? He even says:
"And just to be clear, it's not just Nintendo, every hardware manufacturer is treating their devkits and their unreleased consoles like they're the second coming and are insanely secretive about it to a stupid degree in todays time. It's not even that the hardware isn't finished (duh), but you could at least give me the goddamn specs, so we'd know what to build shit for!"
Hmm, not sure why the disagrees are all swaying towards thinking that NX will have no 3rd party support because of this article. Nintendo might be thinking that it's too soon to send out dev kits to smaller devs. If Nintendo has learned anything from Wii U, it must be that they need 3rd party support and create a console that is at least on level with current gen.
Or so one would hope.
Another thing, if it was up to most developers, the game wouldn't be shown until much closer to release. But publishers need to gauge interest in the game so they can make forecasts. They also want to build hype. Pre-orders has also become very important for trying to see how much the game is going to sell.
Having said that, FC Primal was revealed pretty late so I am not sure why they decided to change the tone of the scene, but again, I don't see any technical downgr...
As a game developer there's not really a downgrade, more just some changes. There's nothing technically that's been downgraded that would save performance that I can see in this youtube quality. If you disagree with the color tone changes and shadow placements, that's one thing, but it's tweaks that any game go through towards the end that the art director feels will work better. Personally, I feel that you shouldn't change a game's look after you've shown it o...
Went in with no expectations and came out loving it. There's so much to explore and find if you just walk around. Best played with a friend or two I feel, but I'm really loving this game. Besides the gameplay, the attention to detail is astounding. Snow falls and lands on everything building up, even the dogs walking around, footprints in the snow, you can shoot out all the lights, paint cans etc.. The amount of geometry detail is crazy.
I wish they didn't change...
Offline rendering is always going to beat out realtime rendering. That doesn't mean we can't appreciate how amazing games are looking these days. I feel this generation has truly allowed artists and game designers to truly show art. I go to Neogaf's screenshot threads and I'm always amazed.. Driveclub, Tomb Raider, SFV, The Order etc.
Driveclub and The Order are probably the two most technically and artistically well made games so far this generation in my opi...
Having worked in the industry for a long time, all I can tell you is that every single person at any game studio has their own opinions. Just because it comes from a game developer, doesn't make it fact.
I am a game developer, and I think that until the Neo/Scorpio install base becomes large enough, the PS4/XB1 will still be the target platform and enhanced for Neo/Scorpio rather than the other way around. Plus, you have to for game play design reasons develop for the ...
