The difference is that films and books have been around longer and have had a longer time to temper any idiocy. The big blockbuster films we see in cinemas every month are no different the the juvenile garbage that the AAA companies churn out. Indie games are slowly establishing a more respectible and sophisticated niche in gaming, much like films and books have so concretely done over the course of their existence. Games are still by and large stupid. The ratio of stupid to smart games is a ...

"I highly doubt that the creator of this game used the rape for anything other than shock value, and it also sounds like it is used as the punchline of a joke."

Yeah, the appropriateness of the critics' outrage hinges over this. If this is true, then seriously, fuck this game. However, I'm not entirely sure it is true...

Murder's not okay. People playing videogames just don't seem to notice that because they've been so brainwashed by an industry whose products have come to be associated quite strongly with ultra-violence.

I think however, with Hotline Miami 2, the rape scene actually points to the hyperreality of videogame violence. It's trying to showing how far it is from reality. The inclusion of the "cut" by the director kind of emphasises this. This is a perform...

As little as I relish the impending digitalisation of games, I'll play this game no matter how they decide to release it. I'll make an exception for it that is. I'll settle for whatever is the easiest way for them to release it, I really don't mind. If it has to be a digital version for the ps3/Vita with english subtitles, so be it.

As much as I'm sure it's a fantastic game, I don't trust people with a IX bias. Mainly because it's far from my favourite in the series (it is good though, don't get me wrong).

Yeah, I even sort of find it offensive that they hired Nobuo Uematsu for the music. He's good and all, but just because he's composing the score doesn't make it a jrpg or jrpg-like. Nobuo Uematsu isn't the only japanese videogame composer.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the "jrpg" aspects of this game seem really superficially considered and implemented. I expect this game to be super-generic in the jrpg department.

As f...

Of course it isn't, but I'd encourage people to read the blog I put out a while ago: http://n4g.com/user/blogpos...

This whole game has a nauseatingly generic feel to it so far. Uematsu is obviously a great composer, but he feels too obvious a choice as a composer for a game that aspires to the "jrpg aesthetic", whatever that even is. There's something borderline stereotypical about it. It smacks of an ignorance of other Japanese talent and really shallow preconceptions of what jrpgs are...

The damage has already been done to their reputation. An about-face on highly controversial features of their console doesn't somehow make them good people all of a sudden. They still chose to include those features in the first place. The only reason for the revisions is so that the console can perform better on the market, they clearly don't actually care about consumers or gamers for that matter.

As far as I see it, they're trying to match Sony's strategy w...

Phantasia and Eternia ftw. Destiny's decent.

I wish someone would translate Destiny 2.

The animation is good, but the writing is just appalling. Not to mention the dialogue, which way too often is just stuff no person would ever say. The dialogue is so transparently a mouthpiece for the creator's cod philosophy / shallow minded quasi-darwinism.

I think the concept is good, but the execution is not. I was super hyped about it when I first saw the promo image with the colossal titan and Eren jumping through the air at it- it reminded me of Akira or something-...

It's people like Matrick and Kotick (ha similar names) that are poisoning the industry. Opportunistic, heartless capitalists who live in the moment and care only about profit.

Er, no. It's the tagline of the recent Final Fantasy XV trailer; a tagline which implied multiple XV titles. (XV used to be called Versus XIII, but if you don't know that then... wow)

We'll likely see XVs 2 through, well, who knows? 5 maybe? I for one am fully behind that given how great XV looks.

If you just read the satirical article instead of losing your shit over the title, much confusion would be averted.

Also, satire has a place in all this. If anything, in it's own way, it teaches us to be critical of the industry and the choices made therein. Satire often points to absurdities within the industry. That's not something you should try and censor. Else we're one step closer to being enslaved by these companies and their relentless profiteering.

No, Mika's right. He /She doesn't mean to say that the game "didn't sell", he/ she means to say that Ellie wasn't the reason the game sold so well. Or in other words, people didn't decide to buy the game based on her featuring in it.

Plus, Ellie isn't even the protagonist. Nevertheless, if she worked as a central female character and the game sold it's only because ND did a good job creating her, not because videogames have done well in t...
