Part 2. What objectification prescribes is a pliant female body to be used or consumed by males- be it for sex or the continuation of their legacy. The woman has use-value- she is an object that men can and do control, and rarely do they realise how unjust their treatment of women is. There is of course resistance, but for a woman to really succeed in this world, she has to emulate men- she has to attempt to enact that partriarchal life narrative, but will always fall short owing to her impos...

Part 1. Oh I might also add that slavery was an example of objectification. Through the disseminiation of psuedosciences through society such as phrenology, a culture was engendered which regarded black people /non-white people as mere animal matter without mind, fit to be utilised, commodifed and sold and slaves. Anatomy contributed to this too, for by comparmentalizing and fetishistically labelling every part of the body, "mind over matter" was symbolically achieved (it wasn't...

So how many people don't even know what objectification means then? Haha, that's pretty funny. So many virulent arguments against people who decry sexism and yet they don't even understand the main terms. I suspected as much.

Objectification is what it sounds like really. It's making an object of, in this case, a woman. I mean this in numerous senses: As a literal object to be moulded, observed, and disposed of, and as a object in the sense of a goal. In an in...

The difference with Raiden is that it was meant as comedy. It played on male social anxieties about nudeness imposed in the first place by body standards set by men, not to mention how feminine Raiden was in that game. That was a critique and was humourous. It critiqued something that deserved to be criticised. (I mean think of the damn cartwheel).

With this, it's different. As it stands, there's nothing funny about Quiet, she's clearly a gravely serious character...

What if you can't escape "the people involved". What if you're trapped in a culture in which you're marginalised, objectified and disempowered, not to mention exploited? Do subjectivity and freedom apply there? Is it fair to invoke those concepts in such a situation? Or is it just callous, inconsiderate and insensitive?

Your attitude is tacitly "everyone should be able to do whatever the fuck they want", but that's such a non-stance. It'...

Now this game looks MUCH more interesting than pretty much all the big Ps4 games announced so far.

This is now on my radar along with The Witness, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, and Rime. Could literally not care less about Killzone, Infamous, Destiny and all that other stuff.

My only concern is that this IS Capcom we're dealing with here. Not exactly the most wholesome game company in the business. I'm going to err on the side of caution for n...

Fair enough that it just didn't make sense story-wise and theme wise to put a woman in the cast, but "it wouldn't work for the story" can't be an excuse all the time. If you keep making games about men you're still contributing towards a patriarchal culture, more particularly if your male figures are glorified. I'm not sure how R* will treat the three male protagonists of this game though. I don't know if they'll critique them at all. If you're not go...

Definitely the other way around. Although maybe 8.5/10 as a game and 5/10 as a film. Imo.

Okay, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now. Though I'm still a bit nettled by his remark about her design being chiefly for the sake of female cosplayers and action figure sales... I mean surely that's the height of cynicism and of being a sell-out? Unless of course him saying that was some kind of meta-commentary on the industry, and the character of Quiet is actually a commentary on the representation of women and their objectification under the male gaze- in which cas...

It's absolutely crawling at this stage though. Making well under 100000 a day and that's dropping fast. I suppose there might be better days though, and I'm pretty sure they can a least manage the PS3 / 360 / WiiU stretch goal with the time they have left.

Nice! I won again! Don't worry though, I'll ease up on the blogposts to give some room for others. I have a few ideas I might write about at some stage, not that they're guaranteed winner material of course, but I'd be happy to put them up for people to read.

Anyhow thanks, and congrats to all the other winners!

Haha yeah. There's something so absurdly pervy and creepy about literally SURROUNDING her with cameras and then constructing a near-naked version of her on your computer based on that information. How are they getting away with this haha?

I'm not sure if that kind of accuracy or realism is something to expect from an MGS game.

That said the whole Quiet thing is questionable for other reasons.

Lol! "Than he should be". Right back to implying that homosexuality is somehow unnatural or wrong. God, some of the dregs on N4G are just shocking.

Hmmm, it look's like she's able to do that black-eye thing at will or something, almost like her skin is some kind of octo-camo.

Maybe that has something to do with the "good reason" Kojima has for making her so sexualised. Still, I don't see why she has to wear a damn thong. Seems gratuitous. The whole thing seems like an elaborate way of justifying and writing in a super-sexualised character. As in the character being sexualised and sexy was the core m...
