i 15th that
yeah. its just with me, when i judge the merits of a system i usually do it based on exclusive games, not multiplatform games. i wasn't trying to compare 360 exclusives to PS3's or anything. i'm just saying they should stick to listing exclusives in lists like this. the average gamer would look at that list and assume that the 360 doesn't have any good exclusives coming this year other than GOW2 and Left for Dead, and thats just not the case. there was no mention of NG2 or Fable 2, and i...
"Finding three PS3 games worth anticipating may be a bit harder…"
um, how is this the case when 2 of your 3 most awaited 360 games just so happens to be PS3 games too? i really hate articles like this, where they list their top most awaited games for a system and 75% of them are multiplatform games. you want 3 of the most anticipated non-GOW2, non-GTAIV 360 games coming out this year? how about Fable 2, Alan Wake and Left for Dead. you say it'll be hard finding 3 ...
wow. that opinion-piece was good for a laugh. honestly, the only legitimate reason to get GTA IV on the 360 is DLC. all other reasons are just a matter of preference. most of the reasons given by this opinion-piece (because "article" it ain't) are dubious at best, especially the controller issue. Dualshock 3 tops the 360 controller in every way, including price (once you factor in the $15 battery pack for the 360). and what's this garbage about the length of the usb cable? me...
i signed up last night on id.konami.net, but didn't get my confirmation email until this morning. and even when i clicked on the confirmation link in the email, i kept getting a timed-out error. after about ten tries i finally confirmed my GameID, but whenever i try to log in through the actual game i get an error message. this is the first time i've ever participated in a Beta or an online game, and i must say its troublesome enough to discourage me from doing either again if i'll have to...
not sure about everyone else, but if Sony had said something as stupid my reaction would've been the same. however, the point is Sony didn't say this; Microsoft did. and it brings into question the validity of every other statement they've made about GTA IV PS3 vs. 360.
everyone knows that the 360 version's install isn't mandatory because there are tons of poor souls who were stooped into the whole "360 at a mass market price" nonsense and bought gimped 360 Core/Arcades without hdds. now these same poor souls will have inferior versions of GTA IV, that is unless they upgrade their systems with the outlandishly priced hdds you sell. and even the people who have 360 Pro and Elite would be fools not to opt for the optional install, as i heard it inc...
"this is an RPG game and in case you didn't know RPG games on the PS1, PS2, and xbox 360 are made in multiple discs since their are story driven and they are linear"
um, i don't recall any PS2 rpgs on multiple discs. i know for a fact Dragon Quest VIII, Suikoden 3, 4, 5, Rogue Galaxy, Radiata Story, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 are all single-disc rpgs. so is FFX, FFX-2 and FFXII, and all three of those are loaded with CG.
well, i was getting this one for my 360 anyway. figured it'd be cool to have Fallout on one system (360), and Oblivion on the other (PS3). moreso than shoddy ports, i think my biggest gripe with developers leading with 360 is that they don't take full advantage of the PS3 in the process. i know its all economics, but i'd rather they took full advantage of the PS3 if they can use it to produce visuals like GT5 Prologue, Killzone 2 and Heavy Rain. not that the 360 is a slouch, mind you.
based on the screen shots, i'd hardly call this '08's best LOOKING (as in graphics) game. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and GRID look much better. i'd even go so far as to say that Baja doesn't look any better than Dirt or Motorstorm. still, i'll keep my eye on it as it develops. i know in my collection it'll have some stiff competition with Motorstorm 2.
imo, most PS2 owners are casual gamers, and most casual gamers follow brand name over anything else. despite the dibacle that was PS3 in '07, Playstation still retains a brand name presence (a brand name that, coincidentally, is often associated with GTA) that Microsoft has yet to significantly effect. so far the only definitive advantage the 360 version of GTA IV has over the PS3 version is DLC, DLC that most casual gamers will know nothing about. surely retailers won't be advertising 360...
naturally the 360 version of GTA IV will sell more than the PS3 version due to a higher install base. however, i think the PS3 will reap higher monthly system sells than the 360, due mainly to bundles and GTA's past affiliation to the Playstation brand. for the months of April and May i see GTA IV selling at a 60/40 ratio on the 360 and PS3 respectively, but as the summer progresses i think it'll even out more.
this seems more like a retailer special than an actual bundle. also, 360 Arcade is even less attractive than the 40gb PS3. if Microsoft wants to generate true interest in the system, and assuming they are planning a bundle, it'd make more sense to do it with the 360 Pro.
Games like GTA don't have "potential" customers.
...but to the placement of analog sticks, the feel of the shoulder buttons, and sleekness of design.
i'm getting the PS3 version for preference of controller. i highly doubt there are any noticeable graphical differences between the two, but the Dualshock 3 was the bigger convincer than DLC.
graphics leave a bit to be desired, but Socom has always been a fun series. i'm still looking forward to Confrontation. hopefully they can work on those dismal textures though.
...to show this to all those developers crying about PS3 being too difficult to develop for, and all those developers who like to give PS3 the short-end of the stick when it comes to porting multiplatform games (yep, i'm talking to you Ubisoft and Valve). build from the ground-up on the PS3, and this is what you get. fantastic!!!
variety isn't only limited to the 360. PS3 has LBP, Valkyria Chronicles, Tekken 6, Infamous, Heavy Rain, Motorstorm 2, 8 Days, Yakuza and Getaway, and thats just off the top of my head. all in all, i think it'll be a good year for both systems.
when ign reviewed some PS3 versions of multiplatform games lower than their 360 counterparts (such as Assassin's Creed and RB6 Vegas 2), everyone took it as credible, gospel truth. but when ign says the PS3 version of GTA IV has a graphical edge over the 360 version then they're being fanboys.
