If you say so. Maybe we'll discuss it again when 120Hz screens are mainstream and the Pros still keep their CRTs?
Well, if you look at new monitors, they are all in 16:9, so yes, it is the future.
Also, Pro FPS gamers use CRTs, because of the input lag that is present in TFT displays.
If the curvature of the screen was extended to cover most of the entire field of view of a human being, game engines would have to be rewritten, because they all use a rectangle as viewport.
@Pekka: Movies are 24fps, because with analog filming techniques, motion blur creates smooth movements. This doesn't work anymore with digital filming, which is obvious if you watch a digitally filmed movie converted to an analog film roll (which is still very common in european theatres). There is a reason why twitch games usually opt for 60fps.
@dchalfont: Are you sure your monitor is actually fast enough to switch pictures every 16ms (60Hz) without afterglow or ghosting? A lot...
Trackballs more precise? You've got to be kidding...
Trackballs are for applications where you have to do many and long scrollings. I've used one in the army on a system that was designed to work on large geographical maps, and it was practical there.
Also, trackballs are mices where the ball sticks out at the top, and has the mass to keep rolling a little, once you've set it in motion.
It depends on the game. In some games, you will not have great framerates, because they are CPU-bound. But they are rare. The last one I couldn't get over 30fps maxed with my old C2D e6400 was Two Worlds. For the big lot of the games, your core platform will be good enough.
If not, hardware is pretty cheap at the moment, a phenom quadcore system with 4gb of RAM can be built for 350 - 450.-
@toaster: I've experienced similar things some years ago, especially with games displaying the nvidia logo, but the situation has improved since the 4000er series is out.
Well, it depends in what resolutions you play. Some ppl (not me) have 30" monitors with 3 megapixels, and if you want to play Crysis and have a decent framerate on such a monster, you do need the power.
@teraclusterx: You really have no idea about hardware, do you? Mass storage speeds is irrelevant in most games, as they only load data at the beginning of the level. In some games, it's necessary to have a half-decent harddisk, because they stream in data during the game, so that there are no obvious level loads (e.g. Oblivion), but come on, I have a standard consumer disk and never had problems with Oblivion.
Of course, IF everyone had SSD-raids, the devs could do new and amazing thing...
Yeah, and Aion? This one got a lot of hype, actually.
If I were you I'd wait for the first game that doesn't run well on your GTX275 anymore. There's no sense to upgrade earlier.
PCs don't have fixed output resolutions, they can feed the monitor exactly the same resolution it needs.
You'd have problems even if money was no factor. Currently, it's impossible to get one of the high-end ATI cards due to low quantities shipped.
Also: a bucketload of marketing crap.
Got Batman AA and Osmos.
You do know about dynamic contrast vs. real contrast, right?
Maybe your different skill levels in the different user bases has not only to do with how well you are adapted to the input systems, but also with skill levels of your competition.
@Kaveti6616: What you don't understand is that many PC gamers don't own a console and thus usually don't compare their games with console versions. They instead compare their games with other similar PC games. And if you do this with MW2, you must come to the conclusion that they charge you +10$ for less game than you got from their previous release.
Now what exactly is the problem with ported games? Well done ports are not problematic. They can be absolutely identical, or even offer le...
It doesn't look the same, but L4D2 doesn't look much better, either. The new special infected have a more realistic "fleshy" look, but the regular infected look worse in L4D2, IMO (at least those on the comparison shots).
Why should this be different from someone that invests 14 hours a day to play chess?
