Most of the publishers are doing the same thing, to be honest, and as such it's slowly but surely becoming the norm. Hell, it may even be the norm! The Japanese publishers are just the latest to be in the spotlight for it.
Why would they do that, though, when they can trump these half-new consoles up with a lot of fanfare, and know people will buy them? Looks at the obsessing over the power details, and how pretty things could possibly look. That's why they do it.
GamerGate is a poisonous affair best avoided entirely. The Konami-Kojima debacle is one of the most spectacular in recent times, in my opinion. Konami have since become a complete laughing stock, of course, and if anything Kojima's reputation has emerged enhanced. Not sure it's that controversial, though - just dumb!
That's right. I think that must be it. You can't kill anyone... That's been the issue all along here. And here was I thinking it was a tad more complicated than that.
Superb article, a truly excellent read. And spot on with all of them. They all sort of mix into this often poisonous cycle where we moan about the new direction a franchise is taking, go back to an older game, find it hasn't aged well, get annoyed, and then go looking for new games again.
Good list. Can't disagree with any of those choices really. There's still time left but it's a bit sobering that September looms and we have all of those games that can legitimately be classed as disappointments in 2016.
It's your opinion, but it's complete nonsense. I'm sorry. The Division was a repetitive, unimaginative grind fest. Addictive? Yes. A huge disappointment for anyone who appreciates creativity in video games? Yes.
Agreed. All I need to know is that it isn't anything like Resi 5 or 6. Seen enough to know that it's nothing like that nonsense; more like PT. That'll do, donkey. That'll do.
I hate all this "5 out of 10 is average", or "6 out of 10 is a good game" rubbish. It's not, because if you give review scores any credence, you'd know that 5/10 is waaay below what the average game gets! 5/10 is no longer average, if it ever was. With the wealth of genuinely excellent games out there, from indie to AAA devs, and everything in between, why waste your time on something that's below par?
Rant over.
People keep defending NMS because they feel the need to defend their purchase. It's perfectly normal, but that doesn't make it right. If you've shelled out $60 on a game that you find out too late is a raging disappointment and gets stale very quickly, it's a bitter pill to swallow.
Human Revolution never garnered the sales that it deserved, despite widespread acclaim from critics and gamers alike (aside from the poorly-designed boss battles). Mankind Divided won't be much different, I fear. There's a fair bit of solid marketing going on, but the series hasn't nailed widespread appeal.
Still, I can't wait for it. Looks superb!
No disrespect, but I suggest you ask someone to edit your work. I found it very hard to read; punctuation is all over the place. Very thorough review though!
Upvote for usage of the word 'dickery'. Bravo!
To a certain extent Nintendo's trigger happy approach makes sense - set a precedent of fan-projects being allowed and they risk opening up the floodgates. They have the most devout fans after all. That said, when you talk about diluting IPs and Metroid in the same sentence, the irony makes me chuckle. Nintendo have cocked up that franchise for themselves.
It's twofold for me. Digital prices in mainstream console stores are often silly so put me off. Current gen console games also take up so much space that I'd quickly clog up my hard drive. I'm not against digital games but don't see huge benefit to them at present.
Largely agree. Nintendo are stuck between a rock and a hard place. They say they don't want to compete with Sony and Microsoft, but inevitably they must do. They're all in the same console sphere, after all! Plus, they know they need third-party support.
I just don't understand why Nintendo cannot make a simple, fairly powerful box (Gamecube MkII if you like) and then seek to innovate more with the software, rather than the hardware.
Solid list. I'd also have Samus on there, though - she's (mostly) the ultimate badass. Personally I'd give a shout to Zelda, too. Although she gets a lot of stick, in Wind Waker and Skyward Sword, for example, she was pretty awesome.
That's logical, yes, but hardly compelling. By that premise it would essentially be re-treading the first game. The beauty of TLOU was witnessing Joel's evolving relationship with Ellie. Continuing theit arc risks stretching it too thin and the magic diminishes.
Have to start somewhere, right? And then I'd recommend heading back down the line to FFX and FFVIII. Just my personal suggestion :)
One of life's enduring mysteries - why does anyone take any notice at all of what this completely numpty says?
