@aspiring, He's partially right though. Some of the negativity comes from that sure. But Ryan did take a big 'ol dump on ps1 and ps2 games. And on principle I'll say that's wrong, whether it be someone Sony, MS, or Nintendo or even steam. Now saying a game didn't age well, or was bad is one thing but he was clearly saying you shouldn't want to play ps1 and ps 2 games.
Nice piece, but I think a couple things are coming from the wrong place. For instance, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone saying BC is a bad thing. Most say some combination of it's not necessary, barely used or are indifferent towards it.
I agree that it's very consumer friendly, and MS deserves praise for it. But I think the negativity is more born from those over hyping it like it's a huge system seller or used all the time by everyone. It's a cool fea...
@ Jason, that still didn't help xbox come out on top. Barely anyone has a 4K TV, fewer still have a UHD Bluray collection, fewer still don't already have a superior Bluray player. It matter when it was bluray and hd dvd battling it out to see which would be the dominant format. But right now UHD bluray's biggest competitor is streaming. And guess what? streaming is going to win.
All that's moot anyway, the point is MS's analysts that they listen to don't ...

You said console shouldn't have anything to do with TV TV TV!" No, we said games should be the main focus over TV. And now with this "they announce games too far in advance!" what you're missing this time is that while I wait on Spiderman to release, I'm playing near. And...
I'd guess for people that converted from xbox and missed those games. Imagine being on 360 and hearing all the praise the last of us got and feeling like you missed one of the greatest games of the generation. You switch to PS4 so it doesn't happen again, sure, but you still missed the game. With a remaster, you still get to play it.
Now I've never seen remasters or BC as system sellers. at most they act as a way of saving you some cash when you upgrade your console...
25 million per month? OK, and I remember xbox bragging that they got over 1 billion hours of X1 gaming in a single month. Doesn't really seem all that impressive when you break it down.
Yeah, hopefully those analysts are better than the ones that told them hd dvd was the way to go.

Kinda, the problem with looking at the this early are the variable have a much bigger impact. Both ran out of stock early on, so it's more a battle of who manufactured more units as opposed to which has greater demand. PS4 was going head to head with X1 when the hype for both was at their highest. switch is, if anything, competing with the mid gen upgrades of those, a far easier battle to win.
Personally I'm more interested to see how it's doing 6months to a year afte...

It's a combination really. wii has awesome sales but low attach rate. Vita has an insane attach rate but low sales. both struggled with studios.
It was a god send for me. I missed 4 games that I really wanted to play but didn't have a wii. Fire emblem, last story, Pandora's tower and xenoblade. Thanks to my Wii U, I got them all.
