True, but the thing is, the gaming industry fare rather well in these times, and it;'s not Sony general that is experiencing the loss, but the gaming section due to earlier mismanagement.
Which is now starting to come back. This economic downturn only exacerbated it. They (game industry as a whole) have lost a bit, but nothing like other industry, and it is now leveling off.
No one is being a fanboi here, but a concerned "gamer" as it affects all gamers, 36...
Just playing a pre-release demo on this got me worked up for it. Sure it's an arcade game, but heck it is loads of fun and a solid game to simply have "fun" with . . . Much the same as Shaun Whites Snowboarding game due out later this year by Ubisoft.
Got to see and play early code on that last week, and aside from normal early code issues, the game looks brilliant and lots of fun, just like this one.
Pure is not overly complicated with buttons and works we...
True, they couldn't, but - if they don't start getting greater returns over longer periods for each game, and the costs of games keep rising, then they have to do something.
In-Game ads is one way they can at least leave the game prices stable, which btw, have remained virtually stable for a decade and a half. We (gamers) have to come to terms with the fact we live in a very costly world now. Gone are the days when several hundred thousand could build a ha;f decent game.

There are 48 separate healing cut-scenes, all of which had to pass the ratings boards in every country. How many other games offer you a screen that show you actually fixing yourself, rather than simply taking cover and self healing, or hitting X to heal with an invisible health pack.
I watch once when in MP, one guy had 3 others attacking him, his gun jammed, and got shot, not killed, he had to dig a bullet out of his leg while still trying NOT to get killed, then give himself ...
Well you (gamers) ask for more interactive AI, they (Developers) give it to you, AI that thinks for its self, and you complain it's not fair or annoys you because they - well - ambushh you . .Hello . .It's a "dynamic" ebnvironment which works on your interaction with it.
What would you prefer, a game you kill some guys in one spot, go to another without any hassles at all, by some magic carpet (it is 5o squ miles after all, which is a fn lot of area to cover either by c...
That's where you have to use your head, plan ahead and work with your Buddies . . Make sure they are safe, and they will look after you and come from nowhere if you get into strife . . . . Lose a buddy in-game, and you've lost them for good in that game, not just that level, or save, or whatever, they are gone for good . . .
Not picking on you mate, but since you brought this up, I think it would be good to explain some things about the game/s like this one.
While spending almost an hour and ten minutes with both Clint Hocking and LP (Producer and creative director of FC2) last week, and drilling them relentlessly on the game (and personal stuff of course)I can see where some areas have had to be reduced to make others work.
One of my BIG Q?'s was, can we play against the AI in the Maps ...
But how do you recommend the publishers get some of that 30mil back from developing and marketing the games. When they hgave a shelf life of only a few weeks . . . . Be great if we didn't have to have them in games, but the reality of it is - we do.
Otherwise, the cost of games for the end user will go up . . .
Me either, but we "need" them now, more than ever. It's not like it was even just a few years ago (3-5yrs) prior to the On-line Console Boom. Which has pushed game development costs through the roof ten-fold.
It's one of those catch 22 situations, you hate it, but need it, but hate needing it, yet want the product etc.
After speaking at length with Clint and LP and discussingthe HUGE viral marketing campaign (look for War Unlimited http://www.reubenblog.typep... and you'll see th e huge storyline built into this. the moral delemas of euthenasia with your buddies. which you lose PERMANENTLY if you do have to kill them, or they are killed in the game.
The whole thing is based around what could be real events happening right now. ...
Having seen both Gears 2 and Far Cry 2 on the same day and in HD, Far Cry 2 leave Gears 2 for dead in the detail and the finesse of the game's construction.
Sure, they are really two different sub-genre's of shooters, but when you look at the characters, environments and details, This leaves Gears in its dust - no pun intended.
FOr those naysayers that were stating something like this could not run on the 360, here's proof that it can, and after talking with Clink Ho...
You're one of the people I'm referring to. The type that want everything for the cost of nothing.
You'll scream blue-bloody-murder if the developer doesn't bring in new innovation, and longer games and bigger environments. All of which up the build period and cost, but 1) don't want to pay diddly-squat for the games, don't want the publishers to get some revenue back and basically want everything for nothing, at everyone else's expense.
Do you think one platform will...
"Gamers" have to realise that if they want games in todays world, then there must be sacrifices along the way.
Developers, who get paid by the Publishers must build in things to help the publisher recoup expenses, there is simply no way around it. Games are unlike any other medium. You can not compare it to films or DVD's. These have a longer period of raising the returns to offset expenses.
Whereas games have a very small window (2 weeks) to get maximum r...
Personally I don't mind them, so long as they are relevant to the game they are in - naturally. It would be stupid to see Nando's advertized in Dead Space, but perfectly fine in say GTA:IV or Saints Row 2 etc.
I know that publishers need to get some of the heavy money back from the huge amounts they pour into games. As development costs alone these days are in the tens of millions, and the marketing and promotions/art/packaging also have huge costs and can run into $US10 million ...
I know we need advertizing in games, but so long as it is "appropriate" for the game they are in, then fine, I'm all for it, but some games such as space style games, many normal ads would not even go anywhere in fitting in. How would they get around that, such as say Gears Of War, or Dead Space etc.?
It's a bit sad when even the composer can't see the problem with the song, especially when he is of the same faith that Song say they could be offending if they run it.
This is NOT a copy of other LBP items, this only came up this morning on the news wires.
I don't know, after collecting a heap of graphics and screens for this, there seems to be a huge difference in actual game play screens, and those shown earlier . .It might be just me, but it seems a little off in places.

I think you'll find it will be fine within your "Friends List" but not in the Public domain. Which is fair enough. You can't just have open slather simply because "you want it" . . there needs to be limits on such things, ortherwise we end up with a situation we are in now.
MS, Sony and Nintedno want to push their online service to "Families" and they can not do that if they are not "seen to be doing something" to combat abuse...
Go back to your Sony Room mate, Sony has issues with its online service, as does any service. None are exempt from abuse.
It's terrible to think that some families no longer use the service due to obscene images, verbal abuse, sexual and racist remarks etc.
SOme think it's "funny" ha ha ha, it's not, it's immature and down right childish at the extreme.

The main area they have to deal with is their gaming section, due almost entirely to Ken Katagtai's way of dealing with things with "his baby" . which had him politely retired with face . .
He basically ignored direct orders, changed specs, dropped prices without even any authority, added new components etc, all without any clearance from Head Office. He held a huge contempt for Sir Howard Stringer, a Gaijin brought in to get the company back in the black. He even refu...
