Pretty much everyone agrees that Nintendo has the legal basis to do this. Even Angry Joe acknowledges that. The trouble is in thinking that Nintendo is somehow being hurt by the free exposure they get from popular Youtube videos. It is actually the opposite, which is why other companies blatantly encourage gamers to upload and stream gameplay videos.

Nintendo doing this isn't going to help them in any perceivable way. They will gain nothing and at the same time lose expos...

It is absolutely about jealously. Joe makes whatever he makes because that's what the other adverts pay. The bigger audience you bring in the bigger paycheck you get, pretty straightforward and he works hard to get that audience. I'd like to see any of these random N4G commenters upload videos of themselves playing games and see if they even get a fraction of the audience of AJ or any other prominent youtuber. It takes a lot more than the video game to bring in such an audience.

Screw it, let Nintendo slip further into irrelevancy. That's what's going to happen when no one can watch streams or let's plays of Nintendo games due to their greed. I think what a lot of you don't get is that supporting Nintendo in this policy is supporting yet another step in the wrong direction the company is making. Do you want Nintendo to be successful or not?

Yes they have the legal basis for this. Angry Joe himself has explicitly stated as much. No, Ni...

This has nothing to do with Joe "leading a revolution." Also, making a bad business move =\= absolute downfall. Your straw man arguments are childishly cartoonish.

It's a crappy policy. Joe wants to share his Nintendo experiences. There's a reason why most other game companies embrace this relationship. In any other industry the company would pay for this level of exposure. Instead, youtubers are compensated by other adverts. It's a beautiful thing that ...

He's making a big deal out of it (successfully) in hopes that it will actually get changed. Create a poop storm large enough and results might follow.

He could just as easily ignore it and just keep making Microsoft and Sony videos and continue to make money. It's not about the money, it's about Nintendo having a crappy policy that is going to have negative impact for all parties involved. It's bad for other youtubers, it's bad for gamers, and it's pro...

Wth does "be a man, handle your business" even mean? Is Joe supposed to write Nintendo a personal letter? Perhaps he already has but that's not going to get results. Joe has influence and naturally he's going to use that influence.

Also this is not a "single video issue." It's about a policy in place that effects a lot more than "a single video."

Hmmmm except Joe explicitly states that Nintendo has the right to do what they are doing. His point is that just because they CAN do something, doesn't mean they HAVE to, and it's certainly doesn't mean it's in anyone's best interest, and IMO not even their own best interests.

And just as they have the right to do this, people like Joe have the right to complain. And complain they shall, because this is not good business.

Of course they are free to do what they want. Any company is free to fail, free to anger their consumers and those giving them free exposure. It's definitely not a good business move by any means, but they are free to do so.

And we are free to voice our frustrations and let them know that the reaction to their backwards policies is negative.

Nice analogy man. Really works out. I listen to a popular radio morning show, and whenever they discuss any current topics they always have to pay money to do so. I mean seriously, how can they discuss football games without paying the NFL for the right to talk about the teams, players and plays that took place during certain games?

All joking aside, radio shows also have this revolutionary bit where they play advertisements for various companies, and in this crazy opposite ...

@dudebro,

Absolutely bro. You totally get it. That's why all the big name brands don't advertise anymore. I mean when was the last time you saw advertisement for Taco Bell or Buger King? How about Walmart? Toyota?

That's right, all the big dogs know what's up and what a total waste of money it is to advertise when you are well known.

The comparisons between games and music or movies have never made much sense to me in this context. You experience music by simply listening to it. You experience movies by simply watching them. You have to actually play a video game to get the experience.

You can watch someone drive a car for hours but you aren't actually getting the experience of driving it yourself. This is much more similar to games.

If I watch a full movie for free on the Internet, ...

Monkeyman

Microsoft and Sony have embraced the system because IT WORKS. If you know your games are good, then you want them to get as much exposure as possible, and what better than free exposure through YouTube channels?

Now if your games are crappy, then it's a different story. But there is the confounding issue; Nintendos game are not crappy, for the most part. So why take this path? It makes no sense. It is the product of a company that is out of tou...

Angry Joe does get paid for it. So what? In any other industry the products company itself would have to pay for this kind of advertising and exposure.

You see, what is so frustrating about this situation is that Nintendo is not even benefitting their own interests. This is bad for all parties involved; it is bad for gamers, for youtubers, and for Nintendo themselves. It *should* be such a no brainer, Nintendo gets FREE advertising and generated revenue. The youtubers still g...

Yes companies love when negativity about their products or services spread around. Especially companies that do things backwards, like Nintendo.

They'll learn. Or they won't and fail miserably.

You're technically correct, but this overlooks the purpose of a review to begin with.

Reviews are meant to inform others, and give *them* an idea of whether or not *they* will appreciate the game. A review shouldn't be looked at as someone just arbitrarily giving out their own personal and subjective opinion.

Reviewers should try their damnedest to be as objective as possible. Let's say I hate RTS games. Hate em to the core. Exactly what am I con...

This article is just...sad. I legitmately feel bad about how the author felt the need to write that and do some pretty lame reaching to justify how this game is innovative.

Needless to say the article did absolutely nothing to convince me that this game is innovative in any way. However, it's completely irrelevant, at least to me. Innovation is NOT inherently good. Sometimes, the drive to be innovative causes a dev team to come up with convoluted and/or unnecessary mechan...
