Although I agree with you that MS(or the 360 specifically) is not competition for Sony, I don't agree with you that the Saturn and Dreamcast were.
The SNES v Mega Drive was the only past 'battle' that you mentioned that dwarves this 'console war'.
The 360 is every bit as competitive as the Saturn and Dreamcast, in fact that's doing it a slight disservice as the Dreamcast was discontinued at this point last gen.
It would be more interesting to see what the sales increase is compared to the average weekly sales from the year so far.
I mean how many of these pointless/ meaningless articles have we seen now.
We're only 3 years into this gen and I'd say it pisses all over the 3 year point of last gen.
The leap from late PS2 to early PS3 has been far bigger than the leap from late PS1 to early PS2 - HD gaming, HDD, online play, firmware updates, DLC, downloadable games and internet access to name a few plus PS3s inclusion of a Blu-Ray player is a far bigger deal than PS2s inclusion of a DVD player.
You can't lounge comfortably whilst 'mousing'. You would have to sit at a desk.
Traditional controls are far from perfect for FPS games but I think I'll make do until the PS3 motion wand controller thingy comes out.
At least it will definately be available for the holidays, plus it's freakin' genius!

I think people were refering to history repeating itself when predicting the demise of Sony in the console market. No company has ever dominated for 3 straight generations.
There's no catch up necessary, remember the 54% fail rate of the 360?
There are probably more PS3's in use out there right now than there are 360's. So when PS3 starts outselling 360 worldwide on a monthly/ weekly/ daily basis, that's them overtaking.
I'd be sad to see MS leave the console/ gaming market because they've really helped bring out the best in Sony.
Ofcourse it will sell some, all big titles are responsible for some system sales. I'm saying that I can't see it making a significant difference in the console sales 'war'.
Killzone 2 (the best looking console FPS) didn't cause any significant increase in console sales.
Infamous (the best looking sandbox title) didn't cause any significant increase in console sales.
So why would the best looking action/adventure/TPS be any different?
It came out in europe last, at least of the main territories, in march 2007. Even if it released then worldwide 23 million over 2 and a half years is 9.2 million a year. Also the PS2 is 9 and a half years ld in Japan only, it is less than 9 years old in both the US and europe. His maths is very flawed.
Personnally I don't think he is totally wrong, I certainly don't think Sony are as worried as the media and haters would have us believe.
I migrated to FIFA 09 last year after the fiasco that was Pro Evo 08, but I definately won't be buying FIFA 10. I only played FIFA 09 for a month before it was relegated to the shelve just to gather dust.
I owned Pro Evo 2-6 on PS2 and what was always gauranteed was I would still be playing each one right up until the next one was released.
Unless Konami have given Pro Evo a complete overhaul and everything has improved as a result this will be the first year I have not ...
23 million over 3 years is 7.67 million a year, not sure where your 11 million came from??? As it's not quite 3 years yet, we can maybe round it up to an average of 8 million a year. Not much more than half the average yearly sales of the PS2 and well below their supposed 10-13 million a year target.

These 2 maps are my favourite downloadable ones so far.
Love the narrow map of Suljeva Cliffs yet the different routes that can be taken to get to the enemies end kinda similar to Corinth Crossing. Also loving the Arctower map, it's kinda similar to Radec Academy, one of my favourites of the original maps.
