Or option 4 where valve do something that they have never contemplated doing in the history of anything half life related ever which is... *drum roll*
...let us know what's going? Like seriously just let us know. A teaser trailer... an interview. A yes or a no. I don't mind taking half life's dev time with a sense of humour but they're just taking the piss now. I was 13 when I played half life 2 and my 20th birthday just went past. In the time it's taken v...
Modern warfare full of plotholes!?
Who would have guessed. Every damn game post CoD4 dropped any pretense of a 'story' at all. The entire game is nothing more than a series of set pieces which were strung together by a piss poor story. The CoD1/2/4 all focussed on the plight of the soldier. The 'call of duty' and what that means in different contexts. CoD4 touched rather beautifully on the idea of what it means to be a soldier in a world where nukes and city r...
I agree, but at least they're working on it. Although to be fair they should have seen it coming. It's only an itty bitty feature that is in like every freaking gaming laptop made and half of all the desktops.
But still they're working on it
The whole game stank of design by committee to be fair. I think far cry 3 will have a much more focussed approach despite far cry 2 still being a very good game.
Graphically pretty, strong controls, great shooting, nice design, vehicles weren't bad. I think it's strongest point was the location. I used to play that game and feel legitimately warmer because of the way it captured that sort of climate.
And then I'd get shot in the face by a jeep th...
The song does work well but it's not really in the same category as artists like cluekid, mala or benton. Those guys put dubstep tunes together like it's jazz. Every note, every sound, having a place and a reason to be there. Music to meditate to.
Nero is like elevator music in comparison, which make skrillex something more like a mentally ill child beating a three day rotten piece of road kill against a piano that isn't in tune.
Not really. This actually looks like a far more interesting take on the concept of war. Call of Duty quickly dropped any pretense of communicating a legitimate message of war post-cod4 and just became a glorification of war. This however looks at war in the same vein as apocalypse now and full metal jacket. The game also boasts a unique location, this time you're not shooting terrorists, mexicans or russians and it actually looks really cool.
Believe it or not the devs h...
Providing it's the right platform. I couldn't imagine a worse nerd-torture than getting a game early but for the wrong platform. Worth buying a different console or a new pc?
...maybe... maybe.
...why am I not allowed to swear in a comment but the title of an article can?
On a related note that is the craziest damn thing I've ever seen in my life. It's great that gaming franchises are expanding into media beyond the usual books and AWFUL movies. I just hope it's good enough to do the source material justice. And by source material I mean dragon age origins because man the sequel sucked.
yeah but for some reason the games industry thinks it can pick and choose the parts of internet culture it likes. They have a virtual product and the internet has resulted in more and more downloadable titles that nullify the cost of printing and distribution. This is great and they will take advantage of this to make them money. Suddenly we don't own our games any more, we're renting them.
But in a world with virtual products...why does EA exist? The whole reason pu...
I'm not sure about that. I think people stop talking about games but that doesn't mean they stop buying them. Also it might be due to the wee little insignificant fact that the average game costs four times the amount of a movie so I might shell out on a film I'm not sure about but not on a game. I need to be sure. And if I don't feel like buying a game day 1 it's rare I'm going to be blown away 6 months afterwards.
And Alan Wake wouldn't have thi...
Yeah because zelda, mario, doom, quake, half life, halo, wolfenstein, unreal tournament, counter strike, star craft, command and conquer and goldeneye aren't respected are they?
I'm sorry remedy but that statement is an empirically stupid thing to say. Gaming LOVES its classics and always has. In fact we often let classics get away with things we simply wouldn't in a modern game because of context. I replay half life 2 and love it, but when Call of Duty touches my...
I think we should step away from one franchise interfering with another in either a technincal manner or in the game's design. I just think we should hope for a sequel and be glad that Notch has such a passion for games.
I had huge trouble in one save trying to create floating islands that didn't consume the entire sky from sealevel to ceiling. This opens up the possibility for bigger constructions and that's just plain fucking awesome
Because it's one or the other right? You can't play both games because otherwise your head might slip out of your ass long enough to realize that a games' quality is subjective to the player and that feeling proud for liking product A over product B is in no way a reason to feel proud or witty and that doing so only makes you one of those scared pathetic human beings who clings to groups defined by arbitrary features and tastes in a desperate bid to feel a sense of worth.

Pretty much agree with this a %100. All Gabe has to do is say "yes" and make a huge step in improving fan relations. Sticking to silence is a bizarre choice.
Cool article. I like the abstract approach to topic ideas seen in a lot of recent articles popping up. I like it and the idea of examining the breaking of the fourth wall in games is a great example of paying attention to something that isn't totally banal. Graphics, game X vs. game Y, 8 year late reviews, and sexism seem to be topics of about 80% of the articles I see lately.
I JUST bought a new computer. God Damn just when I feel like I have a powerhouse machine that'll still be awesome in years to come some game comes along and ruins it. Whether it's half life 2, oblivion or newer ones like battlefield 3 and crysis 2. Will my poor computer and wallet ever get a break?
Well from the look of this maybe soon cause seriously that looks like a freaking photo. Unless we start inventing new dimensions and colours to process games just can't...
Skyrim HD 2k + Realistic Water Textures + Improved NPC Clothing + Skyrim Flora Overhaul + ENB = a fucking headache that breaks with every update.
Personally I welcome the patch so that modders can move on from making a pretty game look a little bit prettier and start adding new content that isn't breasts.
WOO! This is EXACTLY what I want from an rpg. Who wants stats and loot from an rpg when you can just shoot stuff and stare at blue boobies? I constantly find myself looking at the games industry and thinking there is a HUGE gap in the market for 3rd person unreal engine 3 shooters with lots of explosions, guns, co-op and waist high cover.
I'm so tired of my rpg's requiring me to do silly things like acquire loot and build up stats. BORING. I much prefer it when an rp...
Up until now i thought the name was daft but the more I think about it the better it seems. Also go thechineseroom. Dear Esther was a very atmospheric experience... if they actually frame that atmosphere in a genuinely frightening gameplay context then Jesus I'll be shitting my pants.
Not that the first one didn't make me do that anyway.
