Perhaps you should re-read post 1.1. The idea is that you should buy rechargable batteries.
Myself? I bought 1 Play and Charge kit (the USB cable also permits connection to a PC) and the Rechargeable Battery. Plus, I bought one battery for my other controllers. At the beginning of a play session, I take the controller from the charge-cable; and plug-in another controller.
All the controllers are charged, all the time. Never have battery...

I owned a PS3 for a short while around the launch, but sold it to buy an Xbox 360 Elite.
I couldnt stand the racists, homophobes and utter-childishness on the PSN. And you couldnt get rid of them! And there was no way to discourage them!
I was happy to get on Xbox LIVE. You can choose to avoid or prefer players, and submit reviews that affect their reuptation so that you can keep with people who dont behave that way.

This is the most stellar Fighter arcade title I've ever played. If you're not playing Ace Combat 6; you are really missing out.

Personally, I vastly prefer the Open PC model that MS employs as opposed to the "closed console" of some of the others in the industry, and we see that MS agrees.

I have Rechargeable batteries in the house to operate *all* my devices. By keeping them out of the controller, MS has saved me money.
I like choice, and MS made a great decision to anticipate the Environmentally aware battery household like mine.
Ecologically, it is the best choice. It allows everyone to use the best OPTION for their *own* situation.
