Too bad many of those choices are all trying to mimic Call of Duty.
Also, you make the argument like it's arbitrary: you like it or you hate it.
There's a ton of games I love but are plagued with "well, you need this DLC to find out what REALLY happens..." and that's a huge turnoff. DLC is almost turning into the Freemium cash shop thing where you have to "pay to win" for a lot of games, so to speak.
I reluctantly agree with you.
I think it's twofold.
Call of Duty has become mainstream and hasn't really changed at all over the years, but it feeds into this...making it simpler, and simpler and simpler while ultimately rinsing and repeating the same thing. It's good at what it does, though.
The other factor is that, as you mentioned, all those publishers copying CoD and trying to also make things simpler and simpler, really isn&...
Man, that's some strong kool-aid.
Where can I get me some?
LOGICWINS, you're joking right?
Ancient tech vs the latest in Frostbite and you're asking how someone can determine which will be better?
That's like saying who is more likely to shoot you in the face while on a duck hunt: Obama or Cheney...we all know who is better with a gun.
What was innovative last gen? WTF are you smoking?
Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy XII, the original Halo (try to find another shooter like this one), Half-Life 2, Fable, Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Katamari Damacy, Splinter Cell, Mad Dash, Quantum Redshift, The Godfather (actually pretty good and underrated), Star Wars Battlefront and about a hundred other games I'm too lazy to list.
Get your head out of Activision's butt and re...
Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Super Mario Galaxy, The Ball, Red Orchestra, Dark Void, No More Heroes, Portal, Limbo, Shank and Mass Effect all say Hello.
You must be a CoD fanboy?
To be completely honest...I'm not hooked.
I've been enjoying APB: R lately because of the endless customization, RPG leveling and intense real-time combat.
Firefall has to be more than just another "Korean FPS" with RPG leveling. From what I've seen it comes across as a mish-mash of other games (i.e., Tribes + Global Agenda)
I really did LOL after reading this...Bubbles to you dude.
"Lastly ...10yrs from now all the games you mentioned will not be being played. They will be left behind and held as fond memories of games from 1 or 2 generations back. Bigger and better games will have eclipsed them from our memories on a whole."
Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Deus Ex (the first one), Halo Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Final Fantasy VI, Diablo (1 and 2), GTA franchise, Baldur's Gate, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, original Resident Evil trilogy all ...
FAIL, FAIL, FAIL.
Dude, re-read your own comment..."I hear what you are saying. My response... Wii sports is a world class franchise for the Wii. It is the defining game of the Wii and was the major selling point for the craze that was the Wii. No, it wasn't some fantastic story based graphical powerhouse but what it was, was a very effective piece of software that sold to the world the concept of the Wii. Indeed, Wii Sports is world class."
Man...
Development costs for making a CoD sequel: $60 million
Marketing costs for the CoD sequel: $100 million
Week one sales for CoD Sequel: $650 million
Gamers finally realizing that CoD is rehashed trash...priceless.
He says "a lot of fans out there who enjoy games like Uncharted, right? So you can imagine that genre meets a world-class franchise. "
Why would you have to "imagine that genre meets a world-class franchise" that clause alone alludes to Uncharted not fulfilling that promise, why didn't he just say "imagine that genre meeting the Call of Duty universe?"
Wait so how is he saying Uncharted isn't world-class because he's basically saying you aren't getting a world-class experience from Uncharted the way you would from Call of Duty. How isn't that a dis?
Flow was a great game. Then again, everything from ThatGameCompany is pretty cool and original.
It's too bad you won't have legs when you get done.
To be honest, there are VERY, VERY, VERY rarily any long-lasting campers in Battlefield games.
I've never encountered a long-standing camper because the shape of the battlefield changes so much. The landscape of frequent skirmishes and back-and-forth tug-of-wars keep most able-fingered snipers rushing to the next segment to help out their teammates.
It's amazing because the one game where crushing campers is a real delight doesn't really have man...
GTA 4 was way more fun than Saints Row, IMO.
Saints Row got boring to me because of all the retarded stuff and the inconsistent character development (your character was a homicidal, sociopath trying to kill everybody for no real reason).
GTA 4 had a great story, the car chases are some of the best ever in a video game and the shootouts and physics are insanely intense, especially with the iCEnhancer.
I imagine a lot of little kids 12-15 didn...
I would ask you how the gameplay doesn't top GTA SA but you only have one bubble.
If you mean airplanes? Then yes, GTA IV doesn't have airplanes but there's not really enough room to make use of them like in GTA SA.
If you mean interactivity then you're waaaaay off the mark. The fighting, the shooting, the chase sequences, the social interactivity, the verticality, Euphoria, the physics-based destruction, etc., run circles around GTA SA.
Agreed.
It's the most intense and evolved game this entire generation. There's never a dull moment to be had and Rockstar ensured that gamers make use of EVERY inch of their sprawling city.
I still haven't even completed everything there's so much to do. That's not to mention with the icEnhancer GTA IV is literally the most immersive game I've played this generation. It feels so authentic and like you're really part of a living, b...
Um, IT DOES AFFECT YOU!
Splinter Cell is for kids now.
Rainbow Six don't exist anymore.
Crysis is for kids, too, now.
Battlefield Bad Company is for kids.
Rage, Brink, Bodycount, Homefront...etc.,etc., etc.,
I used to like FPS games but now they're all trying to mimic CoD, so yes...as a consumer it DOES AFFECT ME and my choices. I have fewer choices of differentiating gameplay because of CoD.
