You're right about inflation...and yeah, I agree that gaming development costs and some games are waaaaay cheaper than back during the NES, SNES and Sega era.

People also forget that tech and dev tools (even as admitted by the Unity guys) are getting waaaaaay cheaper by the month. So even if devs only make one big budget game a year there are a ton of low budget and mid-budget games that would still be affordable.

I have to disagree about conditions in Am...

LOL, um no...PS3 and Xbox 360 were BEHIND high-end PCs when it came to RAM, graphics and space capacity when they launched.

Midranged laptops from 2006 came with 512mb of RAM and video cards that were one grade behind the Xbox 360 and PS3. How do you figure that they were ahead of high-end PCs?

No sir, you meant to say that the Xbox 360 and PS3 were more powerful than mid-ranged PCs, and that would have been a correct assessment.

As for the PS4...

or lack of innovation therein. Seems like only a handful of devs actually did something unique this gen in comparison to the PS2 era.

I do agree that I like the differences each platform brings. I just hope they diversfy more next-gen. It's obvious the Wii U won't be like the others, though.

Awesome. This is one of those games that didn't even need a feature like this yet they added it.

I'm glad Bethesda doesn't have to be lambasted by the industry or gamers to continually enhance and improve each iteration of Elder Scrolls. They just do it all on their own.

They already had movie-based Batman games. The reason you don't hear about them speaks for itself.

You read that article too?

Did you notice how defensive he was about the graphics...."I won't even talk to someone who says they're the same".

Honestly, I can't see a difference between MW2 and MW3 graphically or gameplay wise, so obviously it's my fault for thinking it's the same tech powering the game <_<

Whoa, when did VGChartz make it back onto N4G without people instantly trolling and making arguments out of numbers?

I know right?

I turn on DX11 on an XFire setup and most games get killed down to like 20-30fps. I think OC'd I got Lost Planet 2 to run at 42fps on my xfire setup.

The amount of vehicles on screen, the amount of destructibility (Frostbite 2.0 is being scaled back for the consoles) and lesser weapon-based physic dynamics.

But if you're okay with that stuff not being int he console version then it's fine.

Us gamers aren't aggressive. We're as happy as can be. =D

Yeah gamers are stupid...

And who would you rather believe, Kotick and Browning who blamed people like YOU for the reason their creativity is stifled or the guys who designed the only good Call of Duty game that stands the test of times...the original Modern Warfare?

Activision basically shut down any studio that wasn't raking in billions. Blur sold well but not well enough so Bizarre got the axe and so did Budcat.

Activision fired Zampe...

Wow, where did you find Dwarf Fortress? That game is crazy. Reminds me of those old Moraff games.

Oops, fail comment and it won't let me edit:

I meant to say that the fanboys want BF3 on Steam to rival MW3 in PC sales. X_X

5217d ago 1 agree3 disagreeView comment

I think most BF fanboys would prefer if the game was on Steam just so it could at least rival it in PC sales. That's really what it boils down to.

I guess it wouldn't be very underrated if most gamers did know about it. Heh.

Completely agreed.

I think it's a big slap in the face when publishers complain about development costs these days, yet all over the place you can see free tools being made available or at affordable prices that do a lot of the work for the devs.

As you mentioned, back in the day they didn't have procedural AI/environment/texture mapping/generation. It was all hand-programmed from scratch.

When I see college students and young devs...

Tens of thousands doesn't compare to millions to most big businesses.

Capcom will make more milking DLC from Dead Rising and rehased Street Fighter IV games than actually designing a new Mega Man game.

In today's climate of gaming you either join the masses and settle for whatever they throw you or you stick to playing the classics from the goldenage of gaming.

Rockstar and Team Bondi had a falling out because of Bondi's poor management, so yeah, that speaks for itself. It was the same for Realtime Worlds and Zero Point Software.

Just because a lot of these guys are savvy game designers doesn't always mean they know how to handle their finances. As unfortunate as that seems it's a very sad truth.

On the flipside, though, sometimes it's not even about development costs but publishers just cutting c...

So that's why it costs $60 for the digital copy?

If for nothing else, Activision knows how to give your wallet a real nice enema...finding new ways to get those dollar bills for old games.
