That's because PCs are open and in-game consoles, engine editing tools, etc., are already right there out of the box for the Unreal Engine.

The problem is that the game is designed on PC but made specifically for consoles which means many standard PC systems are locked out.

Basically they're going back and "opening" some of these features back up that were removed, which basically shows the sad state of PC gaming.

Agreed.

Death to big pubs. There's nothing they can do that devs and gamers together can't achieve.

If we need to foot the bill for the games we want to play then I don't mind.

You can only trust big pubs to put our favorite franchises and genres into the hands of focus groups and profit margins *cough*XCOM*cough*. Forget that crap, we need to rely on Kickstarter to get our gaming kicks...the kind of games we're ENTITLED to p...

LOL...yeah exactly.

"FOV slider"

Yup, because somehow that's the difference between a console and PC...an FOV slider. Right.

Had they mentioned mod support, difficulty slider, extra multiplayer networking tools or a console, then we're talking PC features.

Alex Hutchinson said it best that AAA games are like bloated Hollywood films made to milk gamers. I think most big-budget AAA open-world games follow this method.

Rockstar aims to move the genre forward while others seek to cash-in on their popularity (i.e., Prototype, Godfather 2, etc.,)

The article makes some good references to lower budget, open-world games that did it right. We don't need bloated-budget games to have fun open-world games.

The day-one DLC thing was EA all the freaking way. Anyone who can't see that needs to open their eyes to the way BioWare was run as a studio BEFORE they got under EA's wing.

This gen EA has proven to be anything but gamer friendly. Their main aim has been to publish some of the most fun games imaginable while milking gamers like the fat cows that they are.

A very sound observation there.

And you're right, it cost Guerrilla Games upward of $60 to design their engine and game from scratch (KillZone 2). Some studios do this because they have specific goals that they want the engine to accomplish.

But $1.2 million for a commercial use is a good price for an AAA title given that like BF3, ME3 or COD, these games make hundreds of millions in sales revenue.

Free if you use the UDK.

5075d ago 0 agree2 disagreeView comment

No, no, no.

Licensing fees for AAA engines are always high.

Epic uses the UDK for indie devs and there will be a UE4 version of the UDK after it releases so you can build high quality games without paying a dime.

There are also engines like Outerra and Unity which are also indie-dev friendly.

The price above is for commercial use from multi-billion dollar corporations. $1.2 for them is like penny and dime chump change. <...

I know right?

Our piss poor video game journalists aren't doing diddly squat nothing. They're all objective about it as if it's okay. WTF?! I mean WTF?!

The only person on our side is Angry Joe and no one takes him serious. He had a good take on this thing, though.

I really, really, really wish we had a legit journalist in the industry to blow this up and make a big deal out of it. Right now fans, hackers, gamers and consumers ar...

They were originally $5 per char, that's why Svensson was all pissed with consumers about finding out about the on-disc DLC...essentially we ruined their plans.

Capcom had to try to bargain which is why they're all or nothing for $20.

The hackers said there was a simple switch to either unlock them all or none at all, meaning that whoever coded it just grabbed a bunch of the characters and put them behind a simple hex wall (which further proves they...

that's right, only 12 colors are free. The other 44 have price tags.

If Capcom was smart they'd just release them all for free...or wait, are gamers being too entitled to have colors for a customization tool Capcom implemented into the game? I guess gamers only deserve black face or pale face.

5075d ago 0 agree3 disagreeView comment

Dude, you still have to pay for the remaining colors in the color editor. They're only giving away 12 colors, that leaves 44 more colors for people to purchase.

That's like buying a DVD and having all the extra features locked out including subtitles and Dolby Digital, and then a company enables subtitles but just the Spanish version but you still have to pay for the rest.

It's still BS but fanboys will eat it up because they have no backbone.

It's insane because gamers are fighting just the opposite thing over in the Capcom camp.

I guess Capcom is the future version of what Bioware will inevitably become.

MK:A had 60 and SNK since 1998 tried packing 40+ characters into each KoF game. Nice troll fail.

Doesn't matter what they say we should be happy with, consumers are the end game and if we don't like it we'll let it tank.

Also, Tekken 6 says "hi" while having more content, customization and game modes than SFxT without any DLC.

Back under the bridge you go...

I hate that gamers are getting a bad rep because of trolls and idiotic media journalists (or the lackthereof).

Too many arm-chair warriors and chair crusaders are out there thinking that the people who FEED this industry are somehow the bane of it.

Dude, you shouldn't just be trying to land hits or a simple reaction, you should be doing it to get the community informed or active.

More than anything, getting many gamers to tweet, reddit, or spread this stuff across the interwebs is a good way to wake people up.

It's sad but gamers as consumers are idiots and unless more gaming journalists take responsibility gamers will continue to get ram-rodded up the rear-end.

Just keep the...
