They're supposed to be making a 4th Prime game anyway, so testing the waters seems like an utterly irrelevant affair, no?
From Chevalier: "Let's not forget before Playstation gaming was not mainstream."
Yet so many people still believe Nintendo saved gaming. I agree it was actually PlayStation with the original console back in 94 or 95 (or later depending on your region). If Nintendo was left to its own devices, our hobby as we know it would be a shadow of its current self and MS wouldn't have even entered the market. Hopefully PS can shake off the cancer in the gaming industry known a...
@Orchard
If PSVR2 sold the planned 2 million units before it launched nearly 10% of PS5 users would have VR come Feb 22nd... day 1 for PSVR2.
That would already be very very bad for your idea of a failure. You also forgot that Kinect was bundled with Xbox 360's (which is how I got mine during the PSN network hack of 2011). Yeah, it was a waste of money to get the Kinect Xbox 360, but even so I'm kind of glad I did to show off how much worse it was compared to PS2'...
@glennhkboy and Aussiesummer
Kinect was a riff off the PS2's Eye-Toy which was way way faster and used one camera to do everything Kiniect did with two (or more plus an IR dot laser probe which annoyed my eyes and wasn't even deep enough into the IR range to be invisible to me).
HoloLens is a joke. There were better technologies before it and after its beta run.
If the government were interested MS wouldn't have publicly scrapped it only to supposedly keep it as a secret project. No, the reality is HL is dead.
@Immagaiden
Tech isn't evolving so fast anymore... specifically the manufacturing breakthroughs that give way to smaller transistor nodes - which allows for smaller CPU/GPU/APU components that consume less power put out less heat and allow console manufacturers to make smaller consoles - has slowed down significantly. It is way more difficult to make transistor gates smaller than 7nm and 5, 4 and 3nm processes aren't actually that small which is why phones and ultrabooks aren...
That might be true but allowing them to invest is a foot in the door. If China weren't a Communist nation bent on damaging other nations things using their legitimate businesses as a proxy for the CCP to control everything... people in the know wouldn't care as much.
If Nintendo were a good game publisher this should surprise you.
"...it's a shame they wouldn't want to do the same for the other 2."
This was the plan from the start if it wasn't they would've remastered the whole trilogy to begin with.
@DankSinatra
Crash and Spyro were first released in 1996 and 1998 (respectively) on PS1 with their respective remasters coming almost 20 years after their original releases which while they sold well enough to keep on making sequels, weren't equivalent to the "mindcrack" that Mario, Zelda or Pokémon are.
Shadow of The Colossus looked unmistakably better than its PS2 version and was also only $39.99 USD on release in 2018.

And an even smaller 3rd party studio did it better than NMS on PS2 almost 20 years ago now.
@DarkZane
"Xbox and its fanboys are killing the industry."
Couldn't have said this better myself.
Shows that even the mighty Nintendo IPs don't do all that well on HW no one really wants.
Nintendo took their trademark wackiness too far with Wii U.
I wonder how well PS Vita software sold?
I recently debated with someone else on another platform about SW attachment rates Nintendo vs PS and every single PS except PSP sold more games per console than Nintendo platforms with Vita being a notable omission because officially SIE does not give us Vita HW/S...
Uh... you realize Poland is considered a Western nation and is majority Catholic right?
So the devs are the prudes... it's their game though, right?
Thing is the devs didn't give Geralt a penis so there's really nothing to worry about. Without vaginas Geralt's aphila isn't so out of place. CDPR wanted it that way.
You'll have to ask a transwomen.
@SurgicalMenace
"...who cares what's good for the consumer. What does the consumer bring to the table? All the production, distribution, research, and development are supplied by the corporations."
If you make something the consumer finds no use for, doesn't want or need, what happens to your business?
Look at Xbox.
All the R&D in the world means nothing YOUR CORPORATION RELIES ON THOSE CONSUMERS YOU ABSOLUTE ●●●●●●●!!!
Funny thing is Forespoken is supposedly fun. It's just the protagonist is really annoying and that seems like a very Nintendo thing for the most part. Besides that it still looks objectively better than ToTK on Switch based on what we've seen already.
I can imagine that world... only Nintendo and mobile games would exist plus PC trashware.
That's how that would work. Games aren't like music, TV shows and movies, they cost tens to hundreds of millions of USD to make these days.
Nintendo could still do fine with Nintendo's roster of IP so long as their core stay as fervent as ever. It's PS and Xbox that would suffer catastrophically. Games could not advance as a medium and we'd be stu...
Also a new location with 4 track layouts new photomode stuff and VR!
