The simple answer is that PS isn't actually radically changing their business model.
Even so some will argue that trophies are a carbon copy of achievements, which is simply not true. Trophies have a different structure and leveling system with platinums typically denoting at least the completion of a game. Gamerscore from Xbox Achievements is just a huge number. It's a bit ridiculous. On PS you can just say, "I have 49 trophies." and everyone knows that means you beat at least 49 games.
