No, games are kind of the point of owning a game console.
At this point, I’m just going to kick back and enjoy the show.
Ouch. Not good for a hyped-up game, let alone one of few Xbox exclusives. The signs were there, sure, but I was at least expecting a slightly subpar 6/10, so congrats on managing to outbad my low expectations, I suppose. They had better hope Starfield delivers, because things are really not looking good for them right now.
It’s easy to forget, but there must be a ton of older gamers. Stats from a few years back suggested the average gamer is around 35, and if that’s an arithmetic mean, that would mean there need to be plenty of people surveyed who are older than that, some of whom being much older. All the kids, teens and YAs would be bringing that age stat down, so for anything close to as high as 35 to be the mean, there would have to be a ton of gamers older than that to effectively bring that number up, a...
Good job MS, you not only have the CMA against your plans, but you've now gotten on the PM's bad side. Just keep digging that hole. The odds of this appeal going well for you just keep decreasing.
It probably is going to anyways, but that would certainly drive the price up in the more immediate term.
Now we grab popcorn while MS cries us a river.
Usually people with sense try to be nice to the people whom they are trying to appeal to, especially if they want said people to reverse a decision they have made, or in this case, ask a regulatory body to look over their decision once more, as I can guarantee I would be less inclined to listen to the appeal of someone who threatens me. I guess that’s not MS’s MO though.
I don’t feel for any of these companies either and am glad they’re taking the L too.
MS and other companies paid off the games media to push that narrative, as they want such a future to come true. What better way to DRM games than to have them tied ti a subscription? Getting the media on board with the narrative may mean investors and even the consumer might start to buy it.
What they forget is you have to be the market leader, or at least a close second to have any say in what the future of said market is, and Xbox is a distant third. As there are o...
They’re busy living CoD right now, so yeah, I’m not surprised they just passed this to get it off the agenda so they can focus on the much more important task at hand.
They seem to think that being a jerk will elicit sympathy from the UK…for some reason. “We were going to allow the CMA to block this deal, but then you started being a crybaby douchebag, so now we see the error of our ways, and that we should feel bad for a company as sympathetic as yours.” Maybe something to that effect is what MS is going for here?
They will still be a cancer in that case too. They will likely be a subscription service, and yes, would likely be available on PlayStation and other platforms, but they would still be buying out companies so that in all likelihood, the only way to access certain games would be to subscribe to their service, as they’ve not been subtle about wanting to control the means of distribution. Having big acquisitions like this one blocked is great news regardless of whether MS stays first party or ...
They’ve gone further than that. They’ve said this might affect other big acquisitions by big tech companies, trying to pass it off as a bad thing and that we should all feel bad for big corporations.
If anything they’ve made a case for this block being great news across the board as I’m also against other industries being consolidated by big companies, so good job MS, you’ve somehow made me even happier that this deal isn’t going through.
MS might have done that anyways had this deal gone through. Stopping them on at least one front is a win. Also, what Hofstaderman said. The parent company isn’t obligated to spend that $68b on Xbox, especially with them apparently being disappointed with Xbox’s sales lately.
Moreover, I kind of hope MS does try to engage in the long shot battle they promise to, as that will be time, energy, funds and general focus that they may not be giving to trying to gobble up other ...
Oh boohoo MS, looks like you will have to compete by making great games and products that people want. Sony and Nintendo do it, why can't you?
Well, Sony’s studios actually make games.
Yeah, good luck with that MS and Activision. You’d probably have an easier time getting Bobby to run a 25K marathon up a hill than getting the CMA to reverse its decision. I’m not surprised both companies are desperate to try anything as long as the odds of success are higher than zero, as the sunk-cost fallacy is going to bite them hard, but higher than zero doesn’t mean the odds aren’t long.
Why? What happens in games is fictional, and I don’t believe there is nearly enough correlation between that and people doing similar things IRL to support the narrative that the two are in any way linked. In fact, going after gamers over fictional violence is diverting focus from working on the root issues that can often bring about real life violence.
Yeah well, wins are something that should be earned. Xbox keeps losing because it isn't putting in the effort, plain and simple.
