I have considered getting one, but I’m poor, so I’ve just been sticking with my admittedly outdated PC.

Implying people who have a proclivity for that ask nicely if they can be pirates, instead of just acquiring the ROMs they want?

True, for me it’s more of a while I’m there, may as well look sort of deal. Still, it is a major cornerstone of the physical market in NA, so if it were actually to go away, that would likely be problematic for physical games, even though most of us get ours from sources like Amazon.

You pay £70 for new release games?! I’m far from an expert on the conversion rate, but it sounds like it’s bloody expensive being a Brit gamer. I’ll never complain about Canadian pricing again.

The headline is clickbait. Good thing the description specifies it’s only Xbox games. If we want physical games to stick around though, we ought to keep supporting physical PS and Nintendo games, which will hopefully have bigger sections going forward. Yeah, I know that’s wishful thinking for Walmart…

You mean that MS, the company trying to push for an all-digital future, and whose system Walmart of all retailers is going to phase out selling physical games for, is releasing one of its exclusives only digitally? I don’t think it’s that bizarre.

You could also do both. Pay for the official release in whatever form it’s in, then the morality police can F off if you choose to have and play the game in whatever form you wish. Sure, pirating is also digital, but ROMs are not subject to being tied to an account, and whatever consequences that entails.

Ummm…as someone who has recently entered that world for retro games, there are actually a lot of options in various price brackets. The ones shown above are in the highest price range.

Not every handheld PC is equally capable, mind you, and you do get what you pay for, but depending on your needs, you do not need to invest hundreds of dollars into one of these things. The Retroid Pocket 4 Pro is a current favourite in the under $200 range.

Maybe you wou...

I think it’s a confluence of a few different factors. Third place in sales means the smallest corner of the market to begin with. When that already smaller market also has less interest in a certain type of game, and less interest in physical games in general, that further reduces the potential niche.

A new GTA is going to drift from memory? Sure. It's only one of the most popular IPs of all time, and it has been ages since the last one.

There were Xbox people who actually thought it would outsell the PS4. I’m not even kidding.

I've seen this and all I can say is "holy ****!" I mean, congrats to the kid. That's quite an impressive milestone to achieve, let alone by someone as young as he is.

I used to think that too. There are collections now, you know, and you should absolutely start with the first game.

It would be great news if Sony worked with Capcom again, this time with MvC.

If “accomplishments” is a term for “spent $70billion and getting even more trounced by Sony than usual”, then I agree.

That makes sense as keeping Gamepass confined to Xbox (and PC I guess) is incongruous with the goal of trying to reach as many people as possible with their subscription service, if that is indeed the basket they wish to put all their eggs into going forward. If they wish to reach more people in the console market, at least, it would be a great idea to try and get their service on a certain other console that has far more market share to try and reach out to that userbase.

I agree. If anything, Sony is trying too hard and failing to be MS, but when Sony are themselves, they mop the floor with their closest competitor.

Also, I do not understand the line of thinking that company producing fewer exclusives than usual and focusing more on GAAS had better watch out for company who still somehow turns out even less games and focuses even more on GAAS. Anyone who genuinely dislikes the track PlayStation is on should be that much more critical of...

PlayStation has always had games. Troll harder. If you don’t like PS exclusives then fine, you do you.

A bit of mental gymnastics involved in that conclusion, don’t you think? It’s bad for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, sure, but gaming as a whole will be fine, I promise, or at least, if things go South I guarantee it won’t have anything to do with that one game not doing as well as Ubisoft would like.

Hot take, but I don’t even think it’s that great as a portable system, by virtue of even the smaller Lite being too big and bulky to fit in a pocket. The Switch is about versatility, not portability, but in being a jack of all trades, it’s a master of only one: tabletop mode, which is admittedly pretty neat. However, that advantage is only useful in certain circumstances.

Otherwise, Switch is a barely adequate console, and a barely adequate handheld rolled into one, where...
