Weird, I was just going to point that out!
I like how this has turned into a KZ vs RE debate and bashing of PS3 owners. Are you freaking kidding me? Since when does bringing up a valid issue/concern with controls = being haters/fanboys? I'm a HUGE RE fan. Know what? I DONT LIKE THE CONTROLS! Want to know why? Because they are stuck in the last generation, and since then, we have had great leaps in intuitive control schemes! Dead Space, Gears, Uncharted, all great. You can argue all you want that RE is "survival horror" but i...
Indeed. Why are exclusive reviews being called into question NOW? All of a sudden the media is going to be ethical? I don't get it.
I thought the media wasn't biased? I thought it was all one big fake conspiracy? What's that? Shady deals DO go on? The media DOES have things to hide and DO have incentives/reasons for "exclusive" first reviews such as score limits? No! Not possible! Only Sony would give out an $800 Killzone 2 swag bag including free copies of Halo 3 Legen...
I will adapt to the controls, but I shouldn't HAVE to fight against them. And I just feel with Dead Space and other titles, well, RE should adapt as well. MGS did, and was better for it. RE4's controls were great FOR THE TIME, but since then better 3rd person shooters have shown up. Also, I don't care what you classify RE5 as, it's NOT survival horror. It's an action game, plain and simple, with horror elements.
I don't find challenge in fighting a control scheme. That's just poo...
I never, ever, EVER see ANY review site, INCLUDING Gamespot, take the time to really dig into a mulitplayer online component of a game. Socom, Halo, Gears, Resistance, CoD4... NONE of those got weeks and weeks of REAL playtime on REAL production servers before they were reviewed.
While it's a practice that SHOULD exist, can someone tell me WHY it's being brought up specifically NOW?
Anyone?
It's not a conspiracy. It's called bias. I'm still amazed that people think bias DOESN'T exist in the media. It has nothing to do with conspiracy and everything to do with, gasp, MONEY! Media is a business. They are in it to make profit.
But I guess Morgan Webb never made a dig against PS3 fans in her KZ2 review?
I guess Don Reisenger over at Cnet doesn't harp on every little negative bit of FUD about Sony and create his own doom scenarios?
I guess Micro...
Hardly. People can have an opinion of what is perfect to them, but opinion varies from person to person. Nothing is flawless, it's just reality. A game can be universally accepted as amazing, but nothing is perfect. (And that is not to slight those amazing titles you mentioned)
I was disappointed in the controls simply because the series refused to evolve in light of titles like Dead Space and Gears of War1/2. It's unfortunate I feel, as the series gets further and further away from survival horror into the action genre, the controls at least should haven't kept up.
Can I enjoy it? Sure. And if you all do, I urge you to value your own opinion above others. But it amazes me that this game is getting saddled with a perfect score already from some places w...
I do urge people to ignore the stupider points of the media and not take it personally or to heart. Media sites are a business. They will make any story they can to get hits, which translates to advertising revenues, which leads to PROFIT. They are a business made to make profit like any other, not "please gamers."
So before you get up in arms, realize yes, they are biased, and laugh it off. They are the ones looking foolish. And this goes for any console, any fan, and ...
No game is perfect, nor could it be, nor should it be expected to be.
What this guy "thinks" is not what the developers think and not what every gamer thinks. I think Gears 2 is a fun but heavily flawed game for instance, but I'm not presumptuous enough to tell Epic how to do their job. I enjoy the game for what it is. Constructive criticism on how to fix the next game is good, whining about what this game "should" have been is foolish.
IMHO.
Translation - While we ignored Gears of War 2's massive online problems at launch, this is a PS3 game, which means we need to crucify the online like Socom and bash it for a lack of innovation (unlike RE4 HD Remix aka RE5). ;-)
Joking aside and in all seriousness, I would like more reviewers to spend time on actual production servers for online components and tell it like it is, glitches and lag and all. If the game is patched, that should be considered in a later review update (...
Do you know the difference between criticism and nitpicking? Do you know the difference between bitter bias and personal preference? Shouldn't be hard, this guy was a WHINER.
Hideous? Seriously now, how absurd.
It's called progress. Go play Dead Space.
Oh hey, yay! I love when they pre-plan to add another $20 worth of content that should have been in the game already!
Beat the game to open secret costumes/weapons?
Not in this day and age! They are SO 2009 by making us PAY for it!
Which is why I wonder why their control scheme is stuck in the 1990s?
People can laugh about conspiracies all they want, but if only they knew how much advertising dollars, publishers, and incentives (Halo swag bags, Konami trips) controlled reviewers...
It's a video review. Scroll down on the front page of this site, there should be a link to X-Play's KZ2 review.
Certainly. But still, when comments are tossed about, such as X-Play's unprofessional dig at PS3 fans in their KZ2 review, I really do have to call into question just how much the fanboyism does run things. They are still people, regardless of being "pro" or not, and are subject to the same bias as anyone else. Opinion and bias is a fine line.
Your own fanboy goggles are making you miss a larger and heavily apparent situation there Monty. I suggest you take a step back and look at the industry, not N4G.
The problem is in people thinking reviews are indeed fact (the general public) or ammunition (fanboys). Opinions are great things, but once you start tacking on arbitrary scores, the concept of opinion collapses. It's almost like a contradiction, putting a quantifier on something subjective.
Reviews need to evolve, and how gamers VIEW reviews needs to evolve if we are ever going to get anywhere. Kotaku's methods/format and 1up's roundtable discussions I feel are the way to go, no...
Yeah, MGS4 to 360, eat that Sony fanboys!
Aw,it's not coming? Who wants that lame bluray movie anyways!
Works both ways there champ. Pretty pathetic.
