I'm curious what would the attitude of gamers if there was a monopoly in gaming? That would be a terrible thing of course but I am just curious. Would gamers switch from arguing about consoles to arguing more about game sales? Or would fanboyism die out in gaming altogether? I would be interesting to see what people do when they can't go at each other about sales and their favorite console being on top. Though I would love to see that I would never wish a monopoly on this industry.
It is a fault on all sides. I'm sure there were plenty of PS3 gamers who downplayed the success of the wii and said sales don't matter. This gen will likely be more of the same. People need a hero when they don't have enough accomplishment in their lives so they look to sales of a product they bought as their accomplishment.
I like how people like lol_wut and chrono are trying to turn their massive bank account into a bad thing. You think you have all the answers, but there is a reason Nintendo has been around for over a hundred years. They are a business and one poorly selling product would not be a good cause for them to blow all their money trying to make a powerful system that might not even sell well. They will survive regardless, and that doesn't necessarily mean they will always make video games either...
You are absolutely right, but that is not what the author is trying to refute. The author, though operating under a lot of assumptions, is really trying to discredit the idea that Nintendo needs to drop the wii u or go 3rd party to save its business.

Honestly that's why I say get what you need to play the games you like. Some companies offer better deals than others, but all of them have done things that are not beneficial to gamers. Some more titles might help. When you look at the games Japanese gamers are most looking forward to this year most of them are on PS3/Vita/3DS so I'm not surprised that sales aren't high. I have a few friends in Japan who tell me that gamers aren't all that hype on next gen so far anyways.

Honestly every time I buy a console I already know the positive side. With Nintendo it is games I enjoy, but most importantly it is the ability to play games even when my long-time girlfriend wants to watch criminal minds. lol forgive me for being skeptical but I hardly think EA will make a sports game that is next gen for a couple years still. NBA2k14 is the closest think to a next gen sports game I've seen so far.
Honestly unless they show some cool gamepad features I probably won't get this game at all even for my PC, PS4 or X1. It would be a great fit for wii u, but they have hyped this game for wayyy too long already so it may not be worth it if they don't bother making any unique features.

I don't know how this will affect wii u sales over a long period, but I do know that the playtime of my PS4,X1, and PC will most likely be nonexistent for a while when this game comes out.

Why are they assuming that this tech will even be at E3? This was announced as something different from their dedicated gaming platform so I assume this isn't something we will see at E3. I feel like the author made a number of assumptions about the QOL plan just because of what others have released in terms of wearable tech.
