Its tough to say PSN+ is a "better deal", since the primary service of either is *online gaming*, and PSN also offers that for free.
So, in a sense, XBL Gold was always a bad deal, relative to PSN. PSN Plus offers free stuff and discounts, whereas Gold doesn't as well, so as a pay service... yeah its better too, because you're actually getting your moneys worth in purchased goods, as well as the free stuff PSN always has given you, where XBL Gold charged (l...
343 studios still has 24 positions posted available at microsoft-careers. They're still only 65% staffed (a full AAA dev team being about 75), and that's only if they're working on a single title. More likely they are only 50% staffed.
I'd say its a little early to say they're great, before they're even fully working on their first Halo game. And it sounds like said game won't even be for the 360 -- more like next-gen.
The funniest part about this article, is that its actually Nintendo that's abandoning their core audience (kids) with a newer, expensive, tech-heavy handheld like the 3DS -- Sony is doing nothing different, outside of a (weak, IMO) ad campaign.
Also, the 3DS's very existance justifies the continued existance of the PSP -- since 60M PSP crossplat customers are going to basically be the only justification for the expense of any serious 3rd party 3DS game for the first c...
Wow... $149.99 for a DSi? Do they have GBA classics available as DSi downloads yet?
So... ESPN, etc. are available at no additional charge on XBL. No additional charge.. on top of the subscription fee MS can change at any time.
So tricky!
The DS3 would go flying out of people's hands, if Motion control games asked people to wave the Nav controller/DS3 around.
I would wager that Sony disallows use of the motion controls in the DS3 when its coupled with the Move, and they aren't present in the Nav controller, for that reason.
Rare few Japanese games have significant budgets. That's basically the reason they don't impress Western gamers, who are, basically, graphics and feature whores.
Not real gamers, of course, but the masses of the West are this way. Last generation the disparity wasn't enough to be an issue. This generation it is.
@jden28,
Sorry bud, I think if you knew what a TRC was you might have just enough extra knowledge to realize that I'm not disagreeing with the dev at all. I didn't disagree with the developer, with regards to a to-the-metal solution being faster than the DX solution he had available -- I merely stated that he will never, ever be able to use his alternate method on the 360 -- ever. Those TRCs (Technical Requirement Checklist, that all 360 games must pass to be publis...
Those TRCs are in place to ensure backwards compatibility with previous 360 models -- they cannot be removed. There is no hidden magic inside the 360 that will ever make it able to handle this as well as the PS3.
The same thing goes for MLAA (which SPUs handle brilliantly), and for 3D warping, as opposed to having to render a complete 2nd 3D scene (again the SPUs handle it great), and deferred rendering (which can only be done via slow tiled rendering with the 360 eDRAM)
...The PSP does have better graphics, and arguably more core games, than the DS, if you discount the GBA library which not all DS models can use. Most of the DS library is licensed titles and shovelware -- much like the Wii.
Good for kids. I wouldn't call kids "core" though, with regards to a > $200 device.
...except moving the device while playing a 3D game breaks the 3D effect, which is really only perceived directly in front of the screen.
Motion controls combined with a handheld 3D screen == not a good idea. The screen and controls need to be independent for that to work.
I am NOT paying $250 for PSP graphics on a tiny 3D screen that gives me headaches after 15 minutes.
Does this guy seriously think that all the little devs that make DS games for < $1M are all suddenly going to leap into the big leagues and make $5M 3DS games, with money that appeared from thin air? Does he have a clue as to the real reason why there are so many more DS games than PSP games?
If the 3DS is priced decently low enough (say < $210), it'...
Sounds like this game will be awesome in multiplayer, even if the single player is hampered by bad AI, and will be better after its gone through a few patch cycles.
I'll catch it when its bundled with the couple of expansions Stardock always puts out later.
I find it odd that the reviewer complains that the game is too detailed. It's a turn-based strategy game, not a RTS. That basically invalidated the whole review for me. The only worthwhile info ...
Man.. I hope so. That would rock.
Shame we don't have games like God of War, Resistance: Retribution, Prince of Persia, etc. to compare on the 3DS. Those games are the cream of the crop on the PSP.
Honestly, though, I don't see much difference between the PSP and 3DS overall -- the only even comparable screens are from short demos, which are lighter weight on the system, and can usually afford to look better than actual games anyway.
The 3DS GPU would be amazingly superior if it didn...
Anyone judging MAG's graphics off a compressed YouTube-ish video... is doing nothing but trolling the game and its PS3 fanbase.
Honestly I don't think the MAG community much cares what 360 fanboys think anyway, and they can see MAG, in its full 720p, MLAA, way-more-guys-than-you-have-bu llets-to-kill-player glory on their PS3s, rather than watching it compressed 360p on YouTube or its ilk.
Once you can see this particular map in high rez, you'd r...
The whole "but Move involves a $300 console purchase as well" argument doesn't hold true for nearly 40M households.
I don't think everyone will buy a Move. But 1M is underestimating by more than a small margin. I'm going to say 5M at least, by the end of the generation... maybe 10M, depending on software and the PS3s future success. 1M is Wii fanboy talk.
That might be because Windows, basically, is a tax everyone pays every few years to continue using most computers, despite the fact that it doesn't really improve or justify its cost over time.
As far as MS is concerned these days, if you didn't upgrade to Vista or Windows 7, but paid for every version of Windows from 95 to XP, they don't care about you -- they won't even support you if you pay them for services you actually want with those OSes -- you *must* ...
So.. everyone who buys a 360 is a Halo fan?
Grenade throws in SOCOM 4 have been confirmed to be done with one of the buttons, at trade shows.
This commercial, like many commercials (example: see last year's Natal E3 commercials), is not actually representative of the games at all. Its just some actors doing their thing, most of the time.
Alternatively, it could be that, at one time, the Nav controller did have motion sensing, but as the article mentions, it didn't work out, so they removed it...
