Another day. Another spin in the media to make the PS3 in some way look bad. Even trying to argue that 40,000 < 5,000 sold. And we thought we saw the pits with some of the 6.5 reviews and 10/10 reviews.
So if the XB360 adds DivX it is good.
if PS3 gets DivX it is bad?
Wowzer...
Bias against the PS3 in the media... proved. Again.
Eurogamer gave a 9 for a PS3 game. Look for some negative spin in the review somewhere. They won't go down without a fight. Expect some other sites to give it a 6.5 somewhere down the line.
But the PS3 owners don't buy BR movies. Attach rate is 0.6. HD-DVD owners buy 6 times more than BR owners. Guess if it is 71% 21% then the sales for PS3 + Standalone vs HD-DVD must be 8 - 9 PS3 / BR players for every 1 HD-DVD player sold. Heck - if each of them buys only one BR title, then HD-DVD will have around 10% of the market. What a way to announce how you are "winning" the war.
BR are still outselling them 9:1 in some regions - so what gives? There best sales is halve of BR - with signs of falling behind further... even with exclusive deals.
But hey - it is a "better value proposition" - which is based on one item in the equation - price of the lowest level player that can not even output in 1080p. Pathetic.
The difference between theory and practice. According to theory that they try to prove with stats - HD-DVD should be ahead in the race. But in practice they are falling further and further behind. Lies, damned lies - and statistics.
The 0.6 attach rate will not stay where it is either. So don't bet on the attach rates as it is now...
Stop whining. The game looks brilliant. Regardless of how it uses the SPU's, and your XB360 not having it - ble glad that devs are raining the bar.
I picked up my copy last Sunday in South Africa.
We were jsut told how HD-DVD is "leaving BR in the dust" - and yet the title sales shows the opposite. For someone who is losing, BR is amazingly far ahead of HD-DVD.
But hey - lets cook the numbers again for a few rounds - claiming victory in sales ratio per player, counting PS3, calling on player sales excluding PS3.
Torture figures and they will confess to anything.
In the end - BR title sales dominate HD-DVD. No matter how you try t...
Specs: BR > HD-DVD
Available titles BR > HD-DVD
Price BR >= HD-DVD
Player price BR < HD-DVD
Scratch resistant BR > HD-DVD
Image quality BR = HD-DVD
So for 1/5 that makes HD-DVD "better value"?
That means only one of the above 5 criteria translates into being accounted for as "better value"?
So why not just say cheaper player price = better value and nothing else counts. Quite a stupid wa...

AAAA title?
Come on man. The reviewers set the bar so low to get some titles 10/10 that they now have to resort to 11/10 scores. Bunch of incompetents.
So the XB360 had a 30% failure. So a claim comes up that the PS3 has a 40% failure rate - with a disclaimer. Yeah rights. The disclaimer was just an attempt to ward off any legal challenge. A bit of defensive FUD.
What did they do? Sell 5 systems, 2 was returned because it was not BC with PS2 and they issue a press release of 40% failure (but because of buyers who could not read what is on the box?).
Sound about right.
If PS3 + Standalone players is around 6 million
That would mean HD-DVD needs roughly 950,000 players out there to be able to match BR in title sales. That sound about right if the ratio stays like that. Question is - are they close to 950,000 HD-DVD players sold to customers?
So it will get to the PS3 now? Good news I guess.
But why not make some new IP? Well - it may have some mileage, and re-using the game assets will get some quick wins I guess. Hope they add some extra content to make up for the late release.
They don't want to alienate the 3rd party publishers from the Wii. They got up quickly to the top of the console race, they have a handicap when the other consoles can keep on with HD content.
Be glad that publishers come up with titles like this - for whichever platform. XB360 owners will enjoy their Mass Effect, Halo etc. I will be playing EoJ, R&C, Uncharted. Both will be playing COD4. Wii owners will be playing Zelda, Mario and the sports titles. Great year for gaming in general.
So stop the hating, play the games. The devs made some great titles for us to enjoy regardless of platform. I will hope some of the 3rd party XB360 titles will make it to the PS3. Bu...
To those trying to downplay R&C and Uncharted: Be glad that we have titles like this pushing what we can expect this gen from games. Awesome! Hopefully Insomniac and Naughty Dog will release another bunch of high quality titles. They seem to have gotten their tools right very early on in this gen.
Devs struggling to get to grips - but now we see -
COD4 (Got it today - plays great)
R&C:TOD (AAA regardless of reviewers) this title got many peoples attention because of the great graphics
Uncharted (AAA - but expect to see the 6.0 and 7.5 scores to get it below the "AAA according to Reviewers" joke)
R:FOM (According to me - better than COD4)
HS (Heck - this title really pushed the graphics)
Eye of Judgement (Just wow - can't wait for...
They will have a special for three months, selling a HD-DVD player with 7 free movies. Then they will claim that the attach rate for HD-DVD in Europe is over 7. And claim victory - even if they only sold 3 players... because the attach rate is higher - and that will be the only statistic you will hear for HD-DVD on forums for a month as HD-DVD fans go into a frenzy...
