So PS3 outsells the XB360, MS takes a Billion hit for all the repairs, more losses as they have to retail dump the HD-DVD add-on which did not sell very good anyway, and Sony in a good position to cash in on BR as it is poised to take over from DVD. And all this translates into MS winning? The media is just funny sometimes. This is spin doctoring at its best.
MS is not going to announce that the PS3+BR turned out to be a great value proposition. I think the BR vs HD-DVD war cost them this gen. But many of us said it from the beginning. They needed the year head start. If they included a HD-DVD and still had a year head start, then BR would be in trouble now. As it turned out, their decision killed HD-DVD, and cost them this gen.
Sony made a bold move by including a BR drive this gen. They were heavily criticized for it... but it seems to have been the right strategy after all.
This will pay dividends for the rest of this gen consoles. XB360 is the one that will suffer the most because of this. Wii is about the controller.
I think the possibility was there for a moment at December that MS could actually launch a XB360 with build-in HD-DVD. Then the Warner shock came... and they decided not to go ahead... as they could hear the fat lady sing... We can only speculate if it could turn the HD-DVD fortunes around, but this will only be speculation.
Blu Ray on XB360 will make it too expensive. But it could still turn out to be viable. Maybe even a build-in BR drive... and who knows... even if it does not...
The order sounds right...
Wii first, PS3 second, XB360 last.
Just not so sure if the Wii will slowdown as they are indicating. The gap will most probably be 2:1 not 1.2:1 as they think.
This is about reporters who bashed the PS3, and now seeing that it did not work... PS3 outsold the XB360. Now they are just trying to make it sound as if they are supporting the PS3...
Must be something like AIDS then...
Well... Rob was right all along if you look at the careful selection of his statements:

"I think the fat lady just sang," said Rob Enderle, principal analyst with Enderle Group in San Jose. "This gives Blu-ray a decisive lead. The question now is whether it is too little too late."
Enderle said consumers might have moved on to digital downloads to get movies rather than wait to buy them on next-generation DVDs...
It sucks. They have Blu Ray envy. it is not their fault that the HD-DVD format lost the war.
Bubbles for you bud... that was good...
Lots of celibate people will be around if your wish comes true...
I am quite sure MS paid for this... so that they can point at the 30% plus hints, not release real figures - but instead point to an "independent report" and not respond or comment on any other questions on the true state of affairs.
It is called damage control. The number can not be true - but must at least not come with absurd 3% that no one will believe. Something that must be by the stretch of the imagination just be believable - but not damning i.e. the truth.
Was expected. What was not expected this gen was that the Wii will come out and run away with the numbers. It was never seriously thought that the XB360 will beat the PS3 this gen. Maybe narrow the gap yes - but not end on top. If anything the surprise is that it will end last, and Wii first.
The year that the XB360 was released. And then the media attack on the PS3 to try and sustain the XB360 lead. It all failed... when the Wii and PS3 was released - because within the first year of the competition being released, the XB360 fell behind in sales. And the heavy hitters from its direct competition - the PS3 is not released yet. It does not take a genius to guess that the Playstation brand loyalty, the RRoD problems, the Blu Ray victory - are all factors contributing to the simple f...
They have to admit that with their Billions, they can not force a format on the consumer. It is a very very scary thought for them. They are used to forcing "standards" on the consumer. Monopoly power depends on it for control and monopoly profits.
So now the PR people are working overtime as how to spin it to look as if they did not back the wrong format. Expect some weird wording that will hint at the consumer being stupid for not having chosen the format with the &qu...
Most probably a selection of one SKU - the most reliable one. Does it include the multiple failures? If some people had up to seven times consoles send in, and the failure rate is 16.4%? Somehow I think it is very carefully calculated to make the figures look better.
Even if it is as low as 16.4% - it all points to the fact that it was released before it was ready.
Halo has its own fanatic following. Millions of followers at least. As with Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo, you don't kill it with a slightly better or inferior product. IT has to mess up really badly to die.
So stop this Halo Killer stories. It will be successful because it deserved to be. I like Killzone. XB360 owners have Halo. Both has COD4. Be glad that these excellent products exist. I don't want to see Halo dead. Even if I won't buy it.
Now they are reporting that Sony is "clawing back". They are only trying to gain respect back... because the hate campaign failed.
The RRoD and HD-DVD failure ensured this. If the XB360 had HD-DVD standard, was a year early, and did not have the massive RRoD and disk scratching problems, then it would be over and Sony would be in last place.
Good study for the business people of tomorrow... Don't release a product if it is not ready... MS is now reaping th...
They tried to report the PS3 to death last year. It failed. It sold more than the XB360... and is looking as if only got started as the big hitter titles are only released now. So the reporters try to "predict" that it is "recovering momentum" - because they are realizing that they will be the laughing stock if they keep on the momentum of PS3 is dead, not selling stories. So they are just trying to spin it as if they are reporting a change in trend... when in fact all the...
Even the MS news service is declaring that the war is over.
This is actually news... first in a long time.
PS3 barely survived, so barely that they outsold the console that the media tried to claim was going to run away this gen. Well... the XB360 is now in the dead last place in sales. In next year the PS3 will overtake it, if not earlier. And then the fat lady will have sung again. How about that "first to get 10M will win" statement? Seems like it turned out be in line with the so-called reviewers and analysts bias.
