No switching of allegiance or anything. Tosh use Windows, Sony use Windows. Tosh and Sony use Cell. Sony makes stuff for MS and Tosh, Tosh makes stuff for Sony and MS, Tosh and Sony uses MS products.

Just a little wrestling for the best business decision from all sides. Tosh is not "backing" the PS3. They use Cell for their own products, and supply the chips to the willing buyer, and remember, the buyer can actually own the IP, or part of the IP.

It is a t...

No matter how it gets spinned - BR give PS3 the advantage. MS engaged in its FUD tactics with the trumped up support for HD-DVD as counter. With that dead, they will now trump up the Digital Download one.

Simple fact is that without a 300GB+ disk and T2 line, don't even consider this. But hey - with FUD, who cares anyway?

Sony owners got an option that works. Called Blu Ray. Better build-in at lower cost that works even it makes the overall package cost higher, than have an option that cost very expensive, that does not work.

Back in the basement I see.
Listen kid... you need to pick your wars better. This was a Good Thing (c) (TM).

You are just looking stupid attacking this.

They quietly release something that benefits all gamers, and you try and knock it. Wow. Just how dumb can you get? This is not a bad thing. They did not beat their chest about it, made claims about it. They just said... here devs... have some nice tools... and use it for PC or XB360 as well if you like. What i...

Why sell it at lesser price than a normal DVD player when it is a better DVD player? Just rename the thing as a upscaler with option of playing HD-DVD's rather than selling it at stupid prices. Good thinking on their side. The thing is still going to play DVD's and play it better than other products. So market it as such. And Toshiba can continue building the things if there is a profit in it.

Just check the various PC's and other electronic devices. They change the CD / DVD drives make and models, the memory chips, some of the other chips etc. It is parts. Sometimes because of better pricing, sometimes because the one manufacturer is discontinuing the part etc.

I remember in the days that OS/2 was still a contender... Some other PC makers actually had better relations with the OS/2 division than IBM PC division had.

These companies are enormous - with diverse portfolios. If two of the children have a fight, then the two families are not about to stop talking. So one of the kids lost in the 100m dast race, and the other won in the 1500m race... they might still have two kids running in the same relay team. That is just the nature of busi...

Metacritic picks and chooses which scores they include, and even then at times they fudge them. Sometimes to "reward" exclusives for certain platforms, and to "punish" those who dared make cross platform. The whole aggregate score is manipulated.. as we saw with the R&C, Uncharted scores etc.

Many publishers will be unhappy with Metacritic scores... simply because in order to prolong or prevent a title to get to the so-called AAA title scores, these sites...

It is one developer to another. He is not knocking them. He says he wishes them well with it. He does not sound aggressively knocking the competition. He appreciates the challenge, points out that in this type of game, more players is not always better. Technically it is a challenge yes... good for Insomniac if they get it right. But there is a limit to how big the world can be - simply due to memory restrictions. And if the world is smaller - then too much people in it is a crowd.

Toshiba dropped it
MS dropped it

HD-DVD is dead
Now even MS is admitting it.
Move on.
Let us have the party.
Close the chapter.
Get some real news.

The cross platform titles is a wash... they look nearly identical. Only people who don't play, but rather sit and analyze pixel by pixel come up with a winner either side.

At least the PS3 one does not RRoD the console. Both versions of the titles are normally playable with minor differences. First titles there was noticeable differences in XB360 favor, and now it swung to PS3 favor. And still they are pretty darn identical.

PR BS

49% great, 46% meagre?
It sounds like a photo finish for me. Outselling by two copies? This article is trash.

Just a while back the talk in the media was that the PS3 needs to be "saved" and that it was a sluggish seller. Turns out the PS3 version of new cross platform titles are selling better than XB360 versions.

Now suddenly the XB360 needs to prove that it is still alive. Quite a turnaround. From beating their chest with the first to 10M will win, to PS3 is collecting dust on the shelves, to no games for PS3... and now... XB360 is dead last with prospects of staying there ...

So they lost, and suddenly the hidef format was a bad idea. So they based their whole business plan for hidef "knowing" that down-loadable content will kill it? Sounds like incompetence to me. But on the other hand, just a month or two ago they were adamant that they will win the war - and then there was no talk of hd formats losing...

PR BS.

The press was going on about the disastrous year the PS3 was having, and how well the XB360 was doing. So if the PS3 gains 25% per year, and that is disastrous, then I guess it will only do well in the eyes of the media if it outsells the XB360 by 3:1. News will most probably then read "XB360 keeping up with competition."

POG... it is a games console. If your XB360 sells the least number of consoles, still get good titles, does not RRoD, then life is still good bud. Don...

Wow POG, I experienced ganging up a number of times by XB360 fans. I lost two bubbles in one day this week after some XB360 comments. Face it bud... XB360 fans are having a hard time coming up with bad news for the PS3 and it is hurting them something terrible. Even their ganging up tactics are failing... all that is left now is to blame others...

Windows 95 crashed while Bill Gates did a demonstration. One of the funny ones was when the hard disk on a computer crashed and the MS reps had a problem. How did they get around it? Well.. they used a Knoppix Linux LiveCD with OpenOffice and did the presentation in OpenOffice.

But well... as MS sometimes commented on bugs.. it is not a bug... it is a feature of the product. Maybe this is a standard feature on XB360's. Must be. It seems like all XB360's will experience this featu...

One of the sales reps in my area who owns a XB360 was quite nervous because of this news. I always come to buy PS3 titles from their store and all the reps were XB360 fans. Many were commenting on the great titles coming out for the PS3 this year, how most of them experienced RRoD at least once. There was a sudden change and they were talking about selling their XB360's while they still can. In some way even the reps connected the HD-DVD death with the XB360 going down. As I said before - we ...

In many peoples minds it was PS3 (Blu Ray) vs XB360 (HD-DVD). With HD-DVD dead, PS beating XB360, the though in many peoples minds is going to be that if HD-DVD died, then the XB360 will follow. It is not really a valid point... but that is just how association works. Now it is Blu Ray (new) vs DVD (old).

No matter how MS tries to spin this news with Digital Downloads (on a 20GB disk or disk-less machine?), XB360 is in trouble when one of their me-too add ons just died a horribl...

I have never seen a HD-DVD in South Africa. It seems like it did not even make it here even as a XB360 add-on.
