"It’s a prime example of a corporation merely taking advantage of the public with an attempt to charge for something that should be available to customers for free. "
Ouch!!! Thats damning stuff..
As pointed out, its the convienience that will be appealing to many, and there are some who won't have a Home PC setup like that required.
I'm not a fan of any one company, and I freely acknowledge that MS has a history of getting its check book out to buy entire business and often to restrict competition.
But that is not the case here.
Square have made it quite clear that they made the decision to green light a 360 version by them selfs and they didn't need a financial incentive to do it. for a game thats obviously taking a long time and a lot of money, they decided it made sense to reach a wider a...
@ Vader
Yeah - right the NY times is the pinnicle of knowledge when it come to the games buisness, right? They seemd to base their entire article on the buzz on message boards and blogs..
I'd prefer to listen to respected journalists who are known for calling it straight..

See, anyone can post a link. It doesn't make you...
I would have loved it if MS really did have a good conference - I use and love my 360 too!
But it was rubbish!
GOW2, Fable 2, brilliant but we'd seen them lots before E3.
Portal on live was the best announcement. New interface - bout time but one of the real highlights.
Avatars - terrible.
Casual games, seriouisly derrivitive and not attractive to me.
FF13 - so what? A port of game I'll buy on 1 disc on the PS3.
What suprises?
...
This site has long made its aliegences well knwon, so I never doubted what its conclussion would be.
"and it should be noted that the latter two were shown in the 360 conference, not in PS3’s. As it was put to us after the event, “As far as PS3 and 360 goes for ‘gaming,’ there’s just no contest any more."
If ever you needed to see their angle, you can see it quite clearly from these piece of prose. You could say that the reason these games were shown on the MS ...
These sound fun - I've enjoyed a lot of the PSN titles we've had..
I don't see what the beef is?
It was surprise to see it went live in the US so soon. I certainly didn't expect to see it live in Europe for while. Quite apart from the large variety of laws they have to check and comply with theres ton of other localization issues that need sorting before it can introduced.
Its not like it was ever promised in this region before then, was it?
I guess its easy for me not to be concerned, I'm simply not interested in...
The game is in pre-beta. Alpha has been and gone, beta is very soon.
This is direct from the producer.
@truthforgamers
"why do people think that it doesn't take alot of processing power to render colored textures, the truth is that it does make a difference.
to render cartoony graphics that are colorful takes more processing power than to render black and white cartoony graphics."
Seriously dude, thats one of the lamest things I've ever read on here and represents a level of technical misunderstanding thats almost staggering. With that o...
Brilliant game - but stupidly expensive when the original can be picked up so cheap.
If you didn't try it before, DO try it though. By far my fave RPG on the original Xbox and I'm tempted to play it again! :)
I think it's fair to say Nintendo will continue to make a lot of money.
But its also fair to say that a lot of old school gamers who were hoping to see some more software targeted at them are starting to realize the awful truth:- theres a lot more cash for Ninty to make by selling to 'casuals' than there is for serving games to a 'core audience'.
Its hard to deny this. When Reggie himself offers up Animal Crossing as the main title to please the 'core audience', ...
"I just find that with the Xbox-360 I hear about a game, I see the game and then only months later I have the game."
Thats hysterically funny and so obviously a complete fabrication!
Two words:
Alan Wake
Or how about
Halo Wars
What a dreadful article - poorly written rubbish with hardly any facts or a decent appriasal. weather you agree with the conclussion or not, how they got there was waste of time reading..
If you need a lesson in how not to write, look no further!
Nice concept.
Count me in - but then I'm an old hippie so you'd expect that! :)
Well at this point there obviously no point in continuing this debate.
You obviously haven't bohered reading the document I linked to that clearly explains the process behind the rendering engine used here. An engine that does much more than any other console engine yet shown. You wish to dipsute that? Show tech specs for any rendering pipeline thats more advanced and running on a console. You can't beacuse it doesn't exist.
Your comment makes little sense - 'on...
Well you appear to be completely unable to understand the term 'technically impressive'.
It's a feat of calculation of a type and level that has not been achieved on this kind of platform before.
Whatever your opinion of the result, the method by which it achieves it is technically impressive, and I fail to believe you can be a software engineer and not acknowledge that..
It could end up looking like Loco Roco and it wouldn't matter. If was doing ...
Another Halo game would be excellent and is a foregone conclussion.
I can't believ for one second that they choose not to show anything here at E3. Other than the suprise port of a now multi platform FF game, the new exclusives announced were all lame casula titles!
Ms needed a new Halo game, or at least confirmation that one was in the works.
We can only assume its still in extremely early planning stages with nothing to show.
But when they...
Having worked with the unreal engine I am more than aware of its strengths - and its limitations. Its an effective engine, but by no means leading the field anymore.
If you are interested in what makes the differed rendering technique used in this game so special, then maybe you'd like to read the paper on it that's publicly available here:

I thought this was one of the better things at the MS presentation.
I really like it, especially compared with the blades, which I hated.
Not at all keen on the 'Mii toos' so its good to hear that its optional.
A worthy update.
They should. It represents what the controller should have been from the very begining..
