Your understanding is fatally flawed and very wrong.
Its interesting that you talk about UT3 engine as I've developed 2 titles using this engine and know the technical art pipeline for this engine well.
ALL texture data used for for texture mapping is 24 bit and is rendered as such. The code is optimized to work with 24 bit data and nothing else. The engine has to use 24 bit texture data for normal maps in addition to the actual texture, as the RGB values are used to def...
Sony's machine doesn't have a one in three failure rate!
How can you equate having a regular machine failure with not including a cable in the box? Are you retarded? If you wish to compare 'out of the box' features we can all talk about no wifi, no rechargeable battery packs and some machines without even Hard drives.
But thats not what this article is about. Comparisons with the PS3 are pointless and nothing to do with it. no one is suggesting anything about the relativ...
Can't argue with that in the states.
360 has had a 'sale' of the old 20 gig units whilst everyone has been waiting for the new 80gig PS3 units.
So yes the next NPD will indeed show 360 outselling PS3 in the states for that month. Indications are that its a small blip though and the trend will immediately reverse again.
Whilst I'm sure every 360 fan is tired to death of rrod jibes and stories, trying to make out 'its not a big deal' is plain stupid.
This guy is saying "Sure MS likes bending me over and ramming me, but now I'm starting to like it!"
I'm very pleased that they extended their warranty, but lets remember this is no goodwill gesture, this is a result of terminally badly designed piece of home electronics, and I don't know of any other electrical item thats h...
For some unexplainable reason, achievement points never really caught my imagination, and though I must have a ton of 'em (I've played a LOT of 360 games) I couldn't even begin to tell you what my score is.
So its a huge suprise to me that I care about PSN trophies and have started playing Uncharted again simply becuase it now has trophy support. Go figure??
One thing is for sure, the whole concept of achievements was an extremely good one and Microsoft deserve e...
Bioshock water effects were simply awesome - and widely regarded as such by everyone in the industry.
If you can't see that, you must be blind..
I have to disagree with you mate.
The game is a benchmark for graphics, with some of the best water effects and other spot effects I've seen this generation.
Quite apart from its technical competency, which is extremely high, its design style is unrivaled to my eyes, with the art deco/tech style being an inspired design direction. Add to this environment designs that simply scream 'atmosphere' and you have one of the very best looking games I've had the pleasure to play...
The choice of DVD instead of HD DVD was always a short term choice for the 360.
It gave it a cost bennifit that allowed it to be more affordable and adopted by more people, and in this regard it's suceeded.
Its been obvious for a long time that the data you can store on a single disc is going to be limiting factor for some game types, and we all knew this would be an issue for the machine later in the cycle.
But its mainly an issue for devs and not for users. Fo...
Almost everything you write concerning colour palettes is utterly, utterly wrong - which is a shame as the rest of the info you give is correct and you've written it well.
All game engines on both machines use 24 bit colour space textures. the data throughput required to process and output the textures is exactly the same, wheather the texture is colourful or not.
Thats an absolute varifiable fact - I am graphic digital artist and I've been making games for 16 ye...
Nicely said dude, have a bub!
Fair enough!
I mistook your quoting for a hidden agenda. You had the decency to put me right and not be offended in doing so - kudos to you!
This 'review' just about reconfirms why I've removed Eurogamer from my bookmarks.
If you let muppets review games - it only deserves to be read by muppets.
It's inventive, beautiful, well released, deep and incredibly big for such a cheap game. With so many full priced games being only 10 hours long or less, how can you question the value of a 20 hour game costing this amount? He never even mentions the three player multi player options.... Pathetic excuse for a ...
Ho ho!
Moaning about fanboyism whilst posting:
"the sony faithful just run and cry "microsoft buys everything!!!" or "it doesn't matter sony is so superior they don't even use havok they write their own physics engine for every game!"
You might want to look up 'irony'!
Come to think of it, you might also want to look up 'punctuation'.
...and yes, I'm three times the age of most of these kids, and yes, I've used this ...
Wow! These guys do amaze me sometimes!
In one sentence hitting out at gimmicks, and in the very next suggesting that a feature to sing along with your favorite tracks is not a gimmick?
Who doesn't already sing along with their favorite songs? I do, in the home and in the car, and I don't see that having a microphone plugged into the 360 will make the slightest difference.
It would be different if the software analyzed the music, downloaded the lyri...
Perfectly credible source.
...and a no brainer. Anyone who who tried to infer any differently from a simple licensing agreement, was obviously delusional at best, or just plain 'troll baiting for hits' at worst.
Its real time alright - and mightily impressive too.
Its obviously not gameplay though, though the screenshots of some the scenes probably are.
When ever you demo an engine to show its features off, you run only the code you need to run the demo - in this case one model and some great high res textures. When the game runs in the background, you don't have quiet the same resources available for the rendering, so wouldn't expect to see this level of detail during t...
This game reqally was suckfest in the worst sense of the phrase on 360.
Unless its been completely overhauled for PS3, its definately one to avoid..
Episodic is potentially a good idea. They did it recently with 'Siren' on the PSN - with the game being available in 4 downloads of three chapters each.
Problem is - if your anything like me, you don't want to wait, so I ended up buying the entire thing in one hit with a full 10 gig download! Impatience is not a virtue!
I think episodic content on live could be very big thing, as one of the differences between the two online systems is the size of game they are able ...
Then open your eyes!
The majority of comments in here are completely calm and rational and have nothing to do with the tired old alliegences you seem to base your entire life on.
....and for the record I'm a big xbox fan, and play just as many games on a 360 as I do on a PS3. I just don't worship at the altar...
I tried to be nice - god help me I even tried to reason and educate you, but its quite obvious you are convinced by your own ignorance and wish to continue to revel in it.
You do not know what you are talking about. Equating the bandwidth of streaming a data stream from the source disc, with the data bandwidth in a software rendering engine? How thick are you? Its not even close to be the same thing!
Anyone with even a modicum of real technical knowledge will pla...
