POG - sometimes I can barely believe you type some of what you type!
I know you are a committed 'brand boy', but surely you don't really believe that anything you've written is objective or in this case even relevant?
The article is highlighting the issue of user generated content and the restrictions that mean it can't be used on live. XNA is a totally different issue - many creative people can design and produce good level designs, but would not be interested i...
Its a good point - sony do prefer for most PSN titles toi be developed specifically for the machine, but as you pointed out, there are titles that will be available on both services.
As Johnathen pointed out though, in a typical and classic MS move, XNA code is native to MS applications and any code developed using XNA is entirely restricted to running on an MS platform. This is one of the very reasons they developed it that way instead of merely making it easier to use industr...
Why quote only the 'balance' bits? Your post seems to refuting his issues with the xbl service, but if you read the entire article and all his comments, its very obvious he does have a lot of issues.
I'm going to quote these posts as many people on this thread have asked what requirements Johnathan was referring to and he plainly details them in his responses to the article

Laptop ergonomics are bad. Work all day at a laptop and youll have a stiff neck for sure.
Desktops can be a lot more comfortable to work with, and for offices where people have to use a machine all day, that will be a deciding factor.
Its just not mind blowing stuff is it? When you look at Gears 2 on one platform and Resistance 2 on the other, then look at this, its still like going back in time. Which is not suprising, we saw the engine tech demo and its not mind blowing at all.
It may represent a small steap forward for Wii titles, and I guess thats to be welcomed, but most core gamers have played a lot of games that blow this out of the water visually, so its not gonna turn any heads for anyone with a 360...
Desktops will always have a significant advantage over portable designs.
There is no question that at any given price point, you get a far better machine for your money with a desktop.
I don't see to many laptops with 30" screens and many terabytes of storage available - never mind the pro 3D cards I need to do my work.
There will always be a market for desktops, even if it shrinks.
Absolutely. Microsofts spin doctors are in full flow trying to confuse the easilly dazzled again, but you can't argue with NPD data and simply showing title sales since launch.
Facts are facts, and Nintendo told the truth despite MS protetsting 'black is actually white'.
Edit lol at the disagreements - the chart is absolute truth of the matter!
WTF? I am the only one to notice just how retarded this is? So a quick sutvey of 1000 people - nearly a quarter of them intend to buy a blu ray player sometime in 2009 - and yet no one one wants one? Whcih is it? Either a quater of their survey intended to get one, or no one did, you can't have both!!! :)
I'm suprised its as much as that - given they are obviously asking non tech people (ie non HD set owners...who aren't even looking at HD sets..)
This is ancient news really - these carts have been big business for ages - I picked up and M3 simply 16 months ago - its an easy way to compile a game your working on and test it immediately on the host machine, and these devices have long been used by devs as cheap dev kits (I've developed several GBA games on a similar device.)
You could argue that some of the media playback functionality of these carts should exist on the host systems already, but lets face it, the bulk of ...
Disagrees are for simply talking off topic. If you want to respond to an article, you ought to try and keep it to topic or people will automatically hit the disagree button. Most people are tried of bleating from bot sides of the pointless war, suggesting its from one side only shows how blinkered your outlook is.
I'd give it a 4 myself.
But I don't think anyone reading this review would think it was well reasoned, insightful, or in any way worthy of basing a purchasing decision on.!
It's just one more of the 'me too' sites around the net that show just how rubbish 'Internet journalism' can be. Indeed, it's getting hard to find writers who can give any real insight and write any decent prose at all.
I've no problem with people not liking games I do like, it happens ...
What nonsense!! :)
They sell the things at a loss.
Market prices are determined partly by the competition too. Sony have to be acheaper in the Us for example because the 360 and the Wii are also cheaper there than in Europe!
Laws are different and we have a ton more languages in Europe.
Its perfectly logical and no big deal.
Its pretty pathetic how people go searching under every rock to try and complain about something...
Regardless of which platform has and edge, and indeed, if there IS one, asking a multi plat developer such a question is sure to elicit this response. We all know how quickly the internet gobbles up any slight news of this ilk, so saying anything other than 'theres no difference' is a sure way of losing some kudos with one 'side' or another.
There are a few devs who don't care, for sure, but most of them play safe politics and would keep any real thoughts to themselves.
I think I see whats happened here.
You are purely referring to texture storage and the bandwidth required to stream textures from a disc.
I had a similar conversation in the last week with someone suggesting that games such as Gears and MGS were monochromatic because the rendering engine couldn't shift about full colour images.
I've been mistakenly assuming this was the same argument, however your constant referral to space on disc has made me re-read your...
This seems like a fair review. Certainly better than the Euro-gamer nonsense that was posted recently.
I've thoroughly enjoyed this title and I've found it compelling and addictive. I'd recommend people give it a try with the demo - its certainly well worth the very reasonable entry price!
Erm 400K??
Given the numbers of units out there, how can a few third party games selling 400K be something to boast about? 20 titles selling over a million might be worth shouting about, but this figure merely reinforces to me that 3rd party games on WII don't shift big numbers.
Or am I missing something?
Whatever - I've no need to prove myself to the bulk of people on this site who have seen my long membership and posting history, and know I talk the truth. I'm also not the only developer who spend time on this site and I've had some more enlightened conversations with others via PM. As I'm in-between contracts I have tons of time at the moment!
Until you ignored self evident truths, I was simply nice to you and was trying to help you understand why your assertions are demonstr...
Care to show us all where you can get a quality twin tuner PVR box for £9.99?
Thought not... best to crawl back under the bridge mate.
As a Sky + user, this isn't for me, but for those without a PVR looking to rationalise the number of boxes under their TV, this must surely be of intrest! Particularly since the sony tuners have a pretty good rep in AV circles.
Those thinking of going with this might want to consider a HD upgrade though, as there's...
