That's just fantastic! About time they cut us some slack.
$379.00 from KMART? ... Win.
Demon's Souls was not well received in Japan at first for the same reasons. I can "potentially" see the rebirth of Survival Horror with this title.
This game belongs to a sub-genre that really is acquired taste.
It's just ironic that a game like Resident Evil gets slammed for it's new direction, yet when a game embraces to the principles of Survival Horror, it is slammed too.
There is no winning for this genre at the moment.
You know what, I really enjoyed XIII-2. Shoot me.
It also looks like it's one of the highest rated for the year. That's so fantastic, P4 is right up there as one my favourite games of all time.
@DigitalAnalog, I started with this game before I played any of the others. It's more like Final Fantasy where there are common themes between the games, but not a direct narrative continuation. Pick it up, you won't regret it.
@ SilentNegotiator
ZombiU is Survival Horror.
What you're meaning to say is that the horror aspects of the game are filled with cheap scares and lack the subtleties and narrative of a title like Silent Hill 2. The game definitely shares the survival aspects of a Silent Hill game.
It's also the closest thing we've had to Survival Horror in a long time, and despite it's mixed reviews could lead to the rebirth of the genre.
You can always rely on Keven VanOrd @ Gamespot.
I'm far more concerned about reviews being too high, than too low. If they give a game a bad score and I then enjoy it, then i'm the one who wins.
If I go out on a whim and purchase a game because of a high review and it turns out to be overrated, It's me who loses.
If you like survival horror and you're keen, get it.
@ DrDeath
It's just one of those games and perhaps an acquired taste.
It has a complex and intriguing story filled with some of the most fleshed out and developed characters of any game I have ever played.
Its one of my top games of the generation. For some perspective on what other games a fan of the series also gave a near perfect (to me) score, check my rated 10 games from howlongtobeat.com below:

JB Hi-Fi are now selling most new releases for $69.00 - $79.00.
Otherwise there is http://ozgameshop.com/ - all games are $60AUD or less and come with free shipping. The site ALSO services the US.
You have to remember that we have a stronger currency at the moment and our annual wages are higher than the US too. (on average)
I can deal with $69.00 just fine. Better than the $119.00 RRP a...

Have you learned nothing from the success of Companies like Apple and the direction of the new Xbox Dashboard? Clean & Simple is the best way to go.
Besides, it's only a single screenshot...
OMG, so like... is EGM rating this trashy karting game the same as Halo 4!? Urgh... Worst magazine ever... Psyche! It's spot on.
I am yet to play a Kating game since Crash Team Racing that I really enjoyed a whole lot. Mod Nation Racers wasn't bad though. I think I will skip this one.
@ rezzah. Thanks, I did mean Buy.
9-10 = Buy
7-8 = Rent
1-6 = Skip
I see where you are coming from rezzah, but this is why these gifted individuals are hired and paid to do a job that others otherwise could not.
Perhaps unbiased isn't the correct term, lets go with being Objective. :)
There is really only a 3-Point Scale.
9-10 = Play
7-8 = Rent
1-6 = Skip
That was an excellent read, and some very valid points.
Yes, it is only the reviewers opinion. However; reviewers get paid to do a job and that's what they should be doing. There should always be a certain level of unbiasedness when approaching a game for review and it should be reviewed on the titles success in it's relevant genre and demographic.
We all have opinions and it's definitely okay to let them influence our work, but there also needs t...

http://ozgameshop.com
Nearly all titles are under $60.00AUD and include free delivery. They also service the US. It's a fantastic site that i've been buying from for years.
Otherwise, check JB Hi-Fi. They sold both AC:III & Halo 4 for $69.00.
They're being forced to be competitive.
The journalist makes some reasonable points, but it doesn't feel like the game is being reviewed as a Vita (handheld) game. I get the impression this title is being treated like a PS3-to-Handheld port, which it is not. I would prefer it if the reviewers kept this in mind, we get that these games will not reach the same technical achievements as a console game.
All games should be reviewed based on their respective platform and within their genre.
That is a fantastic review format. Thank you Kotaku.
@ Bubblebeam.
Everything is still cheaper in the US. Consoles included.
With JB selling new releases @ $69.00 and the Wii-U @ $399.00 it's as close as it's ever been, but still more expensive.
The PS3 Launched @ $999.00, 360 @ $649.00 & Wii @ $399.00
Game RRP in 2006 was $99.00 - $119.00
Massive improvements.
