It achieved critical & commercial success and then went on to create an entire pop-cultre phenomenon. It is definitely not "overrated".
It's easy to look back now and be critical, but we can't hold the same perspective that we did in 1997, it's just not possible. Sure, it's definitely not a perfect game, but that's not what makes a game successful. I think it deserves everything it received.
Journey & The Walking Dead were the first two reviews I wrote for the site, so I can definitely agree with you there! TWD is also my personal GOTY.
In regards to Max Payne, I thought the story was fantastically written. However, I struggled to get past some of the design choices. Still a decent game though.
It's definitely a unique game, and well worth your time. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and visit the site! :)
No.
Just like the film industry and mentioned in the article, they are a necessary "evil". Sure, they play it safe, but that doesn't mean they are bad. There are a lot of big budget experiences I look forward to each year.
The way to address the problem already begun this year with the VGA's and the various GOTY awards being handed out to everything but the blockbusters. Just like the film industry, the game industry needs to grow up and ear...
GameCloud is still a relatively new project, so I would like to express a big thank you to all who take the time to read my reviews and visit the website.
Happy New Year, i'm looking forward to an exciting 2013!
I was let down by the original and to my surprise really enjoyed XIII-2.
I have to admit this trailer actually lowered my anticipation for the game. I'm ready to move onto something fresh, sequels are not really my thing.
I much prefer the "spiritual successor" which hold similarities to the original. That way you have fresh experiences with the developed ideas and themes from the previous games. This is what made Final Fantasy exciting, and tyi...
I think you both make fair points, but complaining is unproductive and only meets one problem with another problem. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being disappointed, but unless you're going too approach the issue with a solution, you're only going to face further disappointment.
I know it appears lame, but a well thought out petition is actually the best way to approach these type of situations. I don't think anybody enjoys hearing problems, I think you...
You're honestly telling me people don't get it wrong too?
The original Demon's Souls is a perfect example.
Thank you. It was definitely one of my favourite games of the year!
I try to be professional when writing a review and will always attempt to set aside my personal love of survival horror from inflating the score.
On a personal note though, I don't see any reason why we can't enjoy an 8/10 game as much, if not more than a 9 or 10 game. It's just an overall score, not the level of enjoyment we had playing the game. :)
The only reason they renamed the sequel as Dark Souls is because Sony owns the rights to Demon's Souls and it had to be changed so they could take the series multi-platform.
I generally prefer spiritual successors than direct sequels, so I am actually very happy with this decision.
My new website GameCloud just launched this past weekend. I am hoping to get as many of my reviews out there as possible, hence the N4G submission.
Thank you to anyone who visits my site, I hope the review was helpful! :)
Thanks J-Blaze!
It's just a passion project, but I do hope to get more reviews out there. I decided to start with The Walking Dead as it was my personal GOTY.
Appreciate your feedback. :)
Yes, Madden NFL 2004 won in 2003. The first VGA's.
@ Matt
The reason for the name change between Demons' Souls & Dark Souls is because Sony actually owns the rights to Demons' Souls. It was a necessary change to allow the title to go multi-platform.
If not for that, it would have been Demons' Souls II (& with this title, III). I don't think you have anything to worry about. FromSoftware are incredible.
I've never played Mario 64...
@richierich
The Wii was pretty much a reboxed GameCube with motion controls and it outsold everything. Heck, it was the same all the way back with the Gameboy too, which was also underpowered compared to the competition.
It's always been that way. They play a different game and do their own thing.
I don't limit myself by discounting anything and go where the games are. Hardware is irrelevant if there aren't good games available fo...
There was just something about the mythology in LoS that just hooked me. I personally put it in my personal top 10 games of the generation.
LoS2 is also one of my most anticipated games of next year.
It might be because I unfortunately missed the majority of Castlevania when I was growing up, but I absolutely loved Lords of Shadow.
Intriguing article, thanks for the read.
What do I think?
I agree that the Wii-U is not connecting with the casual audience, and I don't know if it was ever going too. The casual boom is long over and I think the majority of the casual market moved to smart phones and tablets a long time ago. I think Nintendo were aware of this and that's why they shifted focus with the Wii-U and chose a tablet inspired controller.
With the casuals go...
