Glad to see it's down to 5 minutes now - apparently it was like 40 when the beta came out lol

metacritic is a great score. If I made a game and it got 82 on metacritic I'd be well chuffed. Anyway it will be higher than that.

How does that summary match the score? Doesn't make much sense to say "it wades in a sea of mediocrity" and then to give it 4/5.

I don't quite know what to think of this game. Previews have been mostly positive, but the SP campaign looks like more of the same - sure it has huge bosses but they're nothing more than a load of scripted events tied together. The graphics haven't lived up to _my_ expectations, even with Insomniac really pushing the PS3 technically.

Then there's this decision to limit the number of weapons to 2 at a time and neither Resistance, nor any other Insomniac has ever been about realis...

By having a higher price, people see it as a more worthwhile, long-term purchase. A 360 arcade might be bought on a whim, sure, but at that price you don't _expect_ it to be reliable, and you sure aren't going to invest a lot on games and peripherals. I've spent more on games/controllers/downloads for my PS3 than the original price of the console. And that's really saying something considering I bought it at UK launch (£425 I think, or $850). I also can't stand americans complaining abou...

Someone really needs to sort out in people's heads the difference between "its" and "it's".

"Its" is posessive. It means that the thing after "its" belongs to "it", whatever "it" refers to. In this case it is a little trickier because it's a somewhat colloquial expression, but the question should read "New DS on its way?". Think of it the same as "He's on his train", and then "He's on his way&quo...

This is a reasonably positive review.

This analysis fails. First, it doesn't work in firefox for some reason. And second, I have 2x GeForce 8700M GT in SLI, and it says I fail the recommended specs for graphics card, saying a single GeForce 8600 GTS is better? I don't believe that. And I don't think my 2.33 Ghz 2-core processor really cuts the mustard but it seems to think so.

7/10 is a good score.

"All too human flaws" is the best pun on the name I have seen. Kudos to the Times! Better than anything fanboys have come up with like "flop human" or "too flop".

I thought at first that the balance was all wrong, and that flying with the jetpack when you had the flag was stupid. But when I realised that actually the jetpack is not that fast and is very vulnerable to a warhawk, and you can STILL rape a base with a tank :D, it actually seems very balanced indeed. And the new map is truly awesome, just the right size. I hated the way the other expansion maps were so large.

My tank base rape kill streak record - 26 lol

You already can, pretty much.... I know they don't launch out of it straight away but if you just press square to get out then double tap R2 (without pressing a direction) you'll shoot up in the air.

Lol it's the sun. Don't expect an honest, un-paid-for, unbiased opinion.
It's like when all those haze advertisements proclaimed that FHM had given it 5 stars and said "it doesn't get much better". I don't trust it one bit.

I can't think of an example off-hand, I think devs in the past have not wanted to be that annoying. If they are limited by the hardware, however, such as requiring an install for each act in MGS4, they are perfectly capable of irritating us as I already explained.

But I'll ask you to consider - what would happen if in GTA4 they deleted an entire section of the map off the disk (except for the low level of detail models)? Nothing would happen until you went to (or near) that area....

Everything is in RAM. Everything.
Something on the disk has to be pulled into ram (loaded, that's what loading IS) in order for it to be used in the game. Otherwise you can't
see it
collide with it
interact with it.

Streaming is just loading whilst you are playing the game. It's loading assets from the disk into RAM as you are playing. So if you start walking in the direction of an area that's not yet loaded into RAM, the game will load that area. That's a...

Yes but my comment was that game developers aren't going to think of how convenient it is swapping disks/loading/installing in between a car chase. The cars in the chase could be stored in main memory and then the world is streamed from the next disk when you put it in (some data would have to be on both disks, such as the area in the transition). It could be done, and MGS4 is proof that developers don't always consider the convenience of it.

I remember not playing MGS4 because I...

Not necessarily. They could make you swap disks when you change areas. I mean, MGS4 had no problem making me install the game EVERY TIME I WANTED TO PLAY because my brother was on a different act. It also had NO option to install 2 acts (or even 5) at the same time.
