Yes I've never understood this "upscaling" thing, I realise the 360 does it for most games but surely, if my TV has 1920x1080 pixels, and it has an incoming 720p signal, it MUST upscale that signal to 1080p so it can display it. You can't create pixels that aren't there, you can only apply a filter and guess/interpolate them. If I have a good TV it should do that reasonably well.

Gran Turismo 5:Prologue, and warhawk which you forgot to mention only install because they've been designed around being downloadable games anyway. I think socom: confrontation will have a large install as well for that reason.

Yes blu-ray in the PS3 is comparable to the 360's DVD read speed. But that's not why there needs to be a hard drive. A hard drive provides a significant speed boost over a DVD as well. Devs have had a hard time getting around the cell, that's the problem ultimately. It doesn't directly create a need for the hard drive, but if you have to dynamically load data from the blu-ray and you're running out of milliseconds as it is, saving some time by loading from the HD instead is beneficial.

I can give a very clear reason why multiplatform games look the same. They are using the same character models, environment models, same textures, same animations, same basic particle effects. The list of things that are the same for multiplats goes on as far as much of the game engine itself. The ONLY THINGS that can change are

Texture resolution - it is sometimes downgraded slightly for one console. Doesn't usually change.
Shaders - these need to be completely rewritten f...

One thing's for sure - if crysis ends up coming to consoles it won't look as good as it does on very high settings on a high end PC. I mean there is no feasible, technical way, even if they did utilize the power of the cell. What's more, if crysis comes to consoles it will almost certainly run at 720p, 30fps. My laptop can run crysis better than that on high settings.

It's only as similar as it can be, whilst still remaining the same game. It's a sequel for a reason, and not a new game entirely. A LOT changed from the previous iterations. If they changed it much more it could have slipped into the "action-adventure" genre even. It's about as similar to MGS3 as Motorstorm is to Pure, both in the same sub-genre of racing (or stealth) but still vastly different.

I would have been dissatisfied with any shorter cutscenes. If anything, they could have taken MORE time to explain the whole "Liquid Ocelot" thing, because whilst I think I understand it, I think most of the decisions about him contradicted what we saw in MGS2 (remembering that MGS2 was never meant to have a sequel in the first place). Where did liquid's voice go for instance?

I doubt if many people understand the story even now. I didn't on my first playthrough. So whi...

Why call it a 720? Why? Why have people even suggested that name? Is it because we usually add 1, i.e. PS1,PS2,PS3 and now we are adding 360? I suggest the "Xbox 719" because then we have Xbox 1,Xbox 360, Xbox 719. As you can see the difference is 359 each time. 720 is a lame name beyond belief. MS have called the Xbox 2 the Xbox 360 err.. because it's going round in circles? Maybe just because it's a reasonably cool name. The next xbox will have a name though up by a brilliant mark...

IMO blu-ray makes a huge difference for games (purely because they are rendered, so you can always see more detail at a higher resolution), but for TV/Films, whilst it can make a big difference, it's not always as noticable, because the detail _is_ there (you know, in real life), and is reflected in the subtle change of colour in individual pixels. If you have poor eyesight or a small TV it also won't make any difference.

I don't see why they didn't revamp _all_ the classes. Would have been much better to just scrap the barbarian as well, replace him with a new, fresh, yet similar class. And I'm not such a fan of having male/female versions of each class, I mean the barbarian is meant to be strong and the female barbarian would surely then be weaker? There's not really much point in that. Didn't they scrap all the classes from D1 as well for D2? I never played it.

I tell you, it's a LOT easier to shoot a warhawk who is circling you if you have 100% aim speed. Of course the best way is to wait until a warhawk stops and shoots someone _else_, then you can pick him off from a bit further away. Sniping warhawks is even more fun :D

One in a million isn't luck (that's shooting a warhawk with a tank BTW). It's skill, and it's a huge part of the game. That's why you can't stay still for too long when fighting against a tank in a warhawk. Warhawk is deceptive; at first it seems that the auto-aim, lock-ons and 1 hit kill weapons will lend themselves only to overall strategy. But there is a great amount of skill in using the tank cannon, the sniper rifle, and even the grenades. The warhawk itself requires huge amounts of skil...

"First of the..."? I thought there was only 1 big expansion. Looks like it'll be a short episode featuring the start of another story.

It's not good for 360's image. It's a cheap console. Oh of course it will increase sales, at least in the short term, but even if you got the console for free it costs hundreds of pounds to buy the games and peripherals. MS could give their console away for almost nothing, then charge not just for live but to play the console in the first place. On a subscription basis. Yes, they'd love that. A 360, in the long term, if you buy the peripherals that come as standard on the PS3 as well as all t...

I think if the AI collected a lot of objects and those explosive barrels in one place, waited until you got near, then shot them, it would either crash your computer or slow it down enough for them to have an advantage ;)

I don't quite know why you think that 1080p is better than anti-aliasing. There _is_ anti-aliasing in Wipeout HD, otherwise it would not look good at all. Anti-aliasing is the process of oversampling each pixel, so instead of taking 1 snapshot of the scenery per pixel, and then your pixel is either, say, on your craft or on the track, you take 2, or 4, or whatever the AA level is, samples and let's say 1 was on your craft and 3 on the track. It would blend these together (average the colour v...

Yeah you're right he didn't say anything about the PS3. Plus, Killzone 2 isn't out yet so we shouldn't judge it.

And whilst they use the marketing "trick" of making you believe it is capable of so much more, it is. The PS2 had some phenominally good looking games in God of War 2 and FF12. Devs had finally got their head around it.

My personal opinion is that that was not their aim to begin with. I remember seeing the video at the start of the demo disk for ...

pwnsause - I swear there's a lot a anti-aliasing in wipeout HD. At least in the high-def videos on the PS store there is.

Yeah the next one after world at war will be called CoD5. It's like GTA4 was like the 12th game in the series or something insane like that.

I'm not particularly impressed by the length of the script. It could be a padded-out script with poor writing. I'm hoping not, of course. But Free Radical boasted about the length of the script for haze. Look how that turned out.

Edit: Hey look I wasn't bashing the game, just pointing out that they thought a long script was a plus point for it. Or at least that's the way it seemed. I'm actually eagerly anticipating the game's release.
