It was actually the opposite. While the game switches to a dynamic resolution in 60fps mode, the graphics look near the same as native 4K mode, which is amazing. It just dynamically adjusts the resolution based on the amount of workload needed to draw what’s on screen. Basically lowering resolution on the fly to try to lock 60fps, as much as they can.
Im interested to see a comparison video from Digital Foundry, to see how closely it sticks to that 60fps.
Interesting. Thank you for the info. I never would have guessed that this had such a history. I remember hearing about it years back, but I didn’t think it was that long ago. Thanks again.
I want all of you guys on my friends list. I cant even count the amount of times I said “that looks real” in games from the 2600 til now. LoL.
Turok was one of those games that started the trek to open world games as we know them now. Being able to walk around that limited, but open space and worry about the dinosaurs.
Just pure gaming gold. Cant wait to see what they do with these remakes!
This is exactly how I feel. Im hoping it gets the polish that Homefront got over time(another CryEngine game). Especially now that they have some money to make it everything they wanted it to be from the start. They said they are going to continue working on it for some time, continuing to make it better and add DLC to extend its gameplay.
I did not know that. Why did they use an older version of the engine, when Homefront obviously started production long before it?
Regardless, thank you for the info.
I just hope that they continue making the game look and run better on all platforms. Homefront is also using the CryEngine and was eventually pushed from 1440p on the Pro to 1800p the on the X, locking the framerate at 30. It took them 8 patches, but they got there. Lets pray that WarHorse does the same.
Also, he’s full of it about CryEngine not supporting HDR... as Homefront did it at Xs launch.
Damnit... I’d really love be to get into multiplayer with this game. Though I’m not going to support them until they support the X with a patch. They already have the 4K textures on the PC... so Just up the resolution, draw distance and add the 4K textures and I’d be happy.
Yes, if you enjoy higher end PC like visuals in a console form factor. The 4K(even 1600 and 1800p) and especially the HDR are worth the price of admission for newcomers. Current S or base system owners will have to weigh their options. If you have a 4K HDR TV and want to get the most out of it now, then by all means go for it. If you are happy as is and can wait a few more years for the next gen systems to hit...
It all comes down to money and your needs. The good thing is...
Are you kidding me? We haven’t even gotten the first game working correctly, with a frame rate that’s all over the place and visuals that are subpar for even a late PS3 and Xbox 360 game. Get your first, current game running the way it should have at launch before you start talking about a second game or anything else.
When I see the current game in a patched form that rivals Homefront: The Revolutions(it also uses the CryEngine) 8th patch, meaning a locked 30fps and 1800p ...
Thank publishers and investors. They are the ones who push developers games out the door before the kinks are worked out. Do you think any developer wants their name attached to an unfinished or broken product? Unfortunately, they are a necessary evil. Just be glad we have the ability to download these patches and the games don’t ship as is, with no way to repair what’s broken.
Glass half full, glass half empty scenario.
Add 4K/60 HDR support for the X and Pro and Im in.
The CPUs have held this generation back from being any sort of leap, in my opinion. Physics and AI have suffered horribly because of it and have almost taken a step backwards as barely any games use physics for gameplay purposes. AI is still using the same pathfinding logic it did back two generations ago, following predetermined paths and only branching if certain conditions are met. It certainly isn’t thinking for itself by any means.
I love the PS4 and Xbox(have both the...
This is awesome for games like the upcoming Age Of Empires remake, Railway Empire, Halo Wars 2 and even FPSs for people who love to play them with a mouse and keys. I just hope the developers of the RTS games that are already out, go back and patch their games so we can use them. I hate using a controller for RTSs.
Ive been gaming since the beginning with Pong. Its funny to me that while consoles and PCs have gotten exponentially more powerful, the vast majority of gamers now are falling back to gamings roots for their fix. I think the main issue is... games have continued, over the years, to get more complex to play. Especially for newcomers. My wife, who loved games like Frogger and Mario, won’t dare touch an Xbox or PS4 controller... but is very content playing gamings classics on her cell or my Vita...
I think the developer got in way over their head with this game. Especially using the CryEngine. Not sure why they just didn’t go with UE4. They would’ve had a much easier time getting visuals where they wanted them and locking the framerate. Definitely would’ve had a much easier time supporting the Pro and X. It took Homefront: Revolution 8 patches to finally get it right in CryEngine. Now it looks good and runs well on the Pro and X. Im hoping it doesn’t take these guys that many patches to...
I don’t think that is what he was talking about. I think it is the Premium Edition that would kickstart the Pro/ X patches, which would be available as a free download when the Premium Edition releases. Though, I think if you asked Pro and X owners if they minded paying for a 4K(or whatever the final resolution would be for each machine) patch, with some other visual upgrades... I think you would find that many, myself included, would be first in line. Just to see the game at PC high to ultra...
Im hoping you’re right about the Xbox One X enhancements. The game deserves it.
No. Ive been very patient, but they have been on the list since before the X released and its been 3 more months and we’ve heard nothing from the developers responsible. Im still hopeful, but with no word from them since... I’m starting to wonder if they are working on them at all. I think when people ask on their forums, it would be nice to hear a “dont worry, we are hard at work making sure we take full advantage of the hardware”. Its the complete silence that worries me.
As you said... I wouldn’t get your hopes up. The reason being is Resident Evil 7, Doom, The Division and a few other AAA titles have been on that list since day one and we’ve never heard a word on any potential release date for those patches.
I bought all of those games specifically because of them being on Microsofts list of games that were getting 4K patches. Go on any of those developers forums and there’s not a word of any updates coming. All of which have people beggin...
Awesome. hopefully it will be downloaded and ready to go when I wake up tomorrow morning. According to Major Nelson, it is a big update with many of the most requested features in tow. Cant wait to see what they are tomorrow.
