This guy may be the brand-new breath of fresh air that EA needs to turn its reputation around. Caring more about the games and not the machines they're running on. Seems to have his head on right, also, as far as the Star Wars IP is concerned. I hope that Biowares new Old Republic style Star Wars game takes place in the same time as the original movies(4,5 & 6). I always wanted to play a game that focused around Luke Skywalker, with modern visuals and gameplay. I think it would be inc...
If this game ends up looking even 80% as good as it looks here… Then the new bar will be raised for in game visuals over infamous second son. I'm very cautious to believe that these are screens from the PS4 version and not a super high-end PC that only 1% of the population owns.
Watch Dogs will be kind of a buoy marker as to if this can come close to being accomplished on consoles. While it's not the same engine, UBisoft share secrets between studios. So I imagine som...
In the NYC area, Queens is about as rural as you can get. It may not be, 1 house every ten miles, but in New York terms... There is space in between houses. Something you arent going to get much of in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Though, central park will be a blast to play in, in the game.
I shouldve made myself clearer in definition. Sorry about that.
Thanks for all of your great memories. I love reading them. Keep them coming.
Who is up for a coast to coast drive, with stops at every national monument along the way, when this releases?
Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan... Man, there is a lot of diversity in those areas. It will be incredible if they can pull it off in a close to 1:1 scale. You have the big city feel in Manhattan... Brooklyn is a little more laid back, but still has the city feel... Queens is more rural and offers more of a home town feel. Should be insane for exploration. It will be interesting to see how many buildings we can enter, as we are supposed to be scavenging for food and supplies. Especially in Queens....
I think, especially with next gen consoles, it would be cool to leave dead bodies lie... But, to take care of the memory usage, have wildlife or some other entity come and eat them and take their bones(something the player could witness). As if it were the real world. In a more modern setting, have an ambulance come and haul the bodies away. If it were a mass killing, a bunch of body bags and multiple ambulances.
I do think environmental damage should stay and damage to archi...
Nice article. I cant wait to see this middleware implemented on the next gen consoles. Skies and weather can make a good looking game feel great, if implemented correctly. This only helps developers do it quicker and much better looking than before. Not to mention, in realtime, with little drain on the GPU.
Every day, our next gen consoles(and PCs) futures keep looking brighter. With middleware like this, photo realistic visuals are only a stones throw away. Then developers c...
Both this and the other trailer look phenomenal. Excitement level just jumped 1000%. May cant come fast enough!
Agreed. I love space shooters. Ive been aching for something like Freespace and X for a long time.
I'm waiting until they release an extension cable for it. I can't use it, because I use a projector set up and the projector and seats are 15 feet away from the screen.
Yeah, resolutions mean a bit more to me because I play on a projector and a screen thats 120 inches. So, the difference between 720p and 1080p, which is native to my projector, is pretty big. 720p images tend to be blurry, less colorful and with many jagged edges. That is on my screen. Others, who have smaller screens may not notice it as much. So I think it really depends on the person, the size of their screen and their attention to detail as to how much resolution affects their overall gam...
Yeah, once developers master that ESRAM I'm sure 1080p gaming will be simplified on the Xbox One. Like any piece of hardware, it's just learning how to best optimize whats available. Just like the PS3 last generation. Developers were horrified of the obstacles the hardware faced, but once they got over the hurdle, games were incredible.
I just wonder why Microsoft didn't see the 32 MB of ESRAM as being an issue before they released the system. They should've p...
Yeah, this is the only obstacle I see in the devices way other than third-party support. $100-$150 is the optimal price point for this. But looking at it, it seems more expensive than that. If it releases at anything over $150, I'm afraid that it's going to be priced out of most people's comfort zone. And it may become another casualty in the world of first party add on devices.
I'm interested in seeing where this tech goes and if it will be viable for a long-...
Wow! Looks incredible. The lighting is crazy. And to think, this is all going to be running at a silky smooth 60fps in 1080p. Next gen baseball is almost here, I cant wait!
It wasn't so much the middleware as time of day. If you look for the interviews for Infamous Second Son, they will tell you the reason they didn't do a dynamic lighting system is because they couldn't make the lighting look good at noon and 6 AM. They said no matter what they did, the lighting still looked goofy and it made the textures look funny. Which is exactly what we saw in the watchdogs trailer. We saw noontime lighting that makes the texturing look less than optimal. Whic...
That is awesome. I miss those days. I even had a modem for my Atari 2600. It was the coolest thing, let you download games and play them. Great times, my friend.
We have 105Mb here in MD and it operates at 80%+ most of the time. I can generally download at around 10-12 MegaBytes a second. Just downloaded Rayman the other day at 3GBs in about 5 minutes.
Its nuts. I can remember downloading a 4MB MP3 in 10 minutes and being impressed with how fast it was just 10 years ago. Just 20 years ago we were using dialup. Technology will never stop amazing me.

This pic is just insane. I cant believe we are playing games that look like this and this is just the beginning of this gen. I truly never thought I would see realtime visuals like this. In 1983, I was quite sure that Dragons Lair was going to be as good as it ever got. :) I love you Suckerpunch.
Yeah, I also wish they would sync instantly.
