There is a core Pokemon RPG still coming, so I don't get why we can't have something for the newer audiences to get them into a more core experience. Whether they are really young kids or whether they are Pokemon Go fanatics.
I might pick this game up. I'll probably wait for reviews (which I typically don't for a core Pokemon game).
I wouldn't say it's the Pokemon game we need or deserve, but I do think this will boost Switch sales at least somewhat for the holidays, regardless of the reaction from some people expecting more.
@JaguarEvolved
I, honestly, don't believe that you own the game (or a Switch for that matter). You carry a lot of hostility for Nintendo's products and services, so I'm not sure why you'd buy one to begin with. Even if you did have one that doesn't inherently mean you aren't biased.
XC2 is, in my opinion, the third best JRPG this generation. Just behind Persona 5 and Bloodborne.
It's a great game with lots of content. I bet if this was on the system you prefer you wouldn't be saying this.
PS4 has had the largest install base since just about day one though, so install base is definitely a factor.
EA announced that Xbox sold 29.7 million units, and PS4 is at 79 million or so. If you think those almost 50 million other sold consoles aren't a large factor in the amount of sold games you are fooling yourself.
It saves you money and resources by ensuring all products will sell out quickly. By waiting until demand is at an incredibly low stop production you are guaranteeing that some units will remain on store shelves for a long period of time. Which is something Nintendo doesn't like doing.
@Teflon
The motion controls isn't what was making Zelda stale for me. It was following too close to traditional formulas.
IMO, the Zelda series was beginning to become stale. It needed something to set itself apart again.
@frostypants
Not at all. Most games bombard you with icons and text boxes to teach you how to play. BotW smartly guides you through fundamental elements that you can take on in a number of ways without telling you how to do it.
If in Japan it's titled Super Mario Bros 4 then it is indeed a Super Mario Bros title. I'll concede there.
You can have games that are in the same timeline as other games without being in the same series or subseries. Metroid is a fine example of this. Samus Returns mentions the Prime series in several different ways, even though it is not part of the Prime subseries.
You know, I'm not really willing to argue this anymore. It's been drawn...
@knickstr
I think the opening scene when you are coming out of the cave and see the vast landscape displaying locations like the volcano, hyrule castle, and a forest below you is very well executed and memorable as well :)
@bluefox
Personally, I disagree. The plateau was a memorable experience for me. Not all games resonate with everyone in the same way though.
Like, I didn't think much was memorable about The Witcher 2's opening, and I'd probably substitute that one for Uncharted 2's opening scene.
BotW had a fantastic opening that introduced you to the games mechanics in a myriad of ways without explicitly informing you of what all those mechanics are.
Example: To get to one of the shrines you need to learn about the temperature system in the game, and how cold/heat reactions work. There is an optional quest to get the warm doublet to brace the cold, or you can skip the quest and cook something to warm you up. You can also just carry a heat source around with you, or...
Just because a particular part of a franchise becomes the defining series doesn't mean every game from that franchise is part of that particular series.
-Super Mario World isn't a Super Mario Bros title. It is a Super Mario title though. Hence why I make that distinction. Also, Luigi is playable in this one, so why isn't it called "Super Mario Bros World" eh?
-Yoshi's Story and Woolly World aren't Yoshi's Island titles either. They...
@Phoenix
You are still confusing franchises for series.
Donkey Kong Country is also a series. It isn't the main franchise. There are many games in the Donkey Kong franchise that aren't Donkey Kong Country. Donkey Konga, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, King of Swing, etc.
Also, again, Super Mario Bros isn't the main franchise. Super Mario is a series in the Mario franchise, Super Mario Bros. is a sub-series in the Super Mario series...
Donkey Kong 64 was Donkey Kongs first foray into 3D, but Donkey Kong Country is a separate series.
Metroid Prime is a Metroid title, but not all Metroid titles are Metroid Prime titles.
Super Mario 64 is a Super Mario title, but not all Super Mario titles are Super Mario Bros. titles.
Metal Gear Solid is a Metal Gear title, but not all Metal Gear titles are Metal Gear Solid titles.
Donkey Kong Country is a Donkey Kong title, but not all Donkey ...
Donkey Kong Country isn't the main franchise either...it's just Donkey Kong.
Also, Super Mario 64 isn't a Super Mario Bros title...
Neither is Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, or Super Mario Odyssey.
Donkey Kong 64 is not a Donkey Kong Country game. Just like Metroid: Fusion isn't a Metroid Prime game.
You hardly ever play the Switch, so you don't want to invest money into games that will help you play your Switch more often?
That doesn't really make sense...
I thought the Haze premise was actually pretty cool. What's funny is that the same basic premise was used in Black Mirror.
