They don't have to... they can continue to be stubborn and lose their place in the industry as it passes them by. Sony is pulling the same smug BS now that bit them in the ass at the start of the last generation, and the same thing bit MS in the middle of last gen. Sony needs to quit trying to elicit control over how, where, and with whom the gamers choose to play or they will fall again.
It's amazing to watch people go from, "I don't care about crossplay with other consoles" to, "Bethesda is in bed with MS" and "Bethesda games suck" just so they can keep their beloved piece of plastic from appearing less than perfect. The second Dishonored was a bit better than the first, but the mechanics were still off, the AI was still poor, and the stealth was nowhere as good as any of the games it ripped off to even get the gameplay to where it is. Even the last Thief game, which was the worst in the series, was better than these. Hitman blows them out of the water.
TBH, I feel the same way about Dishonored as I do about Bioshock. Both game series are highly overrated. To each their own though! ...

Agreed. Also, I wouldn't say that Sony is relying on remasters in the first place since they have the most diverse first party line-up of this generation and have made the most successful new IP's of any first party devs.
OTOH, it seems that all of the remasters MS does now have simply been through BC which means that they're also completely free to anyone who already owns the games. GeoW Ultimate is the one recent exception (2015).

Why are you ignoring what Tom Raptor said about new studios not having chemistry because they've never worked together before? Also, when you state your preference, are you suggesting that you'd prefer MS just bought established studios instead? I'm asking because most of the comments around here, about MS' studio acquisitions, suggest that people would prefer that MS made new studios... instead of buy them.
Plenty of other reasons to fault Sony as a company, but games production and diversity is definitely not one of them. I don't like Sony's games personally but I don't hate them for not having the games I like either... it's just preference.
Yeah, first with all the acquisitions for Playground's second studio and now this set of hires for The Initiative! It seems like MS is finally getting serious about making talented new studios, diversifying their genres of games, and producing in greater numbers than they have for a long time.

How long will it last? Considering a new DLC drops every 6-8 weeks for the foreseeable future it'll last a long time. DLC adds to the lack variety you cite as the reason the game won't last.

Yes. Quietly acquired six new first party studios to make games for the remainder of this gen and through the next. Why even bring this up when the subject is who will launch first? I haven't seen one reasonable post trying to argue why Sony will not launch first when all the available information to form an opinion points to MS waiting until after Sony drops PS5.
