I think the scores are trying to hedge a bit...
Im sure the reviewers all loved it, but know that some casuals will hate it and be very upset at relying on whatever website gave it a perfect score.
Drithe,
Your position is certainly understandable and reasonable. I cannot disagree with it more.
Dark Souls (if its anything like Demon's Souls...and by all accounts it is so lets assume they are the same), brilliance is based on the fact that it is all "earned." Nothing is given. Nothing. That is the experience. To say you want an easy mode is to say that you want a totally different game than what was intended.
I applaud Fro...
Im ready.
I overcame Demon's Souls on NG+, I will overcome this.
Challenge Accepted.
Ive had this pre-ordered since May. Judgment Day commeth tomorrow.
If this game would have come out this summer when it was supposed to I would have picked it up.
Now with Dark Souls...Skyrim...Rage...Batman ...Uncharted...and a slew of others there just isn't any room to play it!
I know Demon's Souls had some problems at launch as well.
I do hope they get this fixed for the North American release next week.
There are also some reports that every once in awhile, there is a control lag issue. Now, its hard to know if this is true or not.
Either way, doesn't matter to me. Ive had this bad boy preordered since May.
If they fix the leveling and make some interesting quests...its a huge improvment.
Incredible game.
Will probably be overlooked long-term, but it is a true classic.
"And you're right, demon's souls was hard because it was complicated. It was about calculation, timing, luck, memory, caution, stats, gut instinct, patience and daring as well as other things."
The game is brilliant.
Many people can argue what the game is like. Symphony of the Night, Super Metroid, Zelda...all of which are great answers and certainly any game worthy enough to be mentioned with those CLASSIC (and I do mean CLASSIC) games is a true testement to the game.
For me (if Dark Souls is anything like Demon's Souls), the game captures that sense of wonder that I had when I was 11-13 playing video games.
That sense of discovery not for the sake of discover...
That might be the most coherent post concerning FFVII I've ever read on the interent.
I have played better RPG's (FFVI, FFIX, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Demon's Souls, Suikoden II, Final Fantasy Tactics), but there is no denying that FFVII changed the genere and even the industry as a whole.
I guess its a little anime...maybe..I dunno.
I think this is brilliant from FromSoftware.
Im proud of myself for not watching.
The suprise factor is what made Demon's Souls so good. I don't want to even hear the music/sound.
Game was before its time.
If you are in to the "Souls" games, then yes, it is news.
Obligatory "Japan's cover is better than US/EU"
I love Final Fantasy Tactics, and I will be the absolute first guy to admit I would not be a great person to review a Gears of War game.
There are some games though that can breach all genere stuff. Those are truly incredible games (though there can be incredible games for the genere and fans of that genere would say its better).
Prime example of what Im saying. Uncharted 2 is a great game that most gamers can enjoy. Demon's Souls is arguably bette...
The difficulty in Demon/Dark Souls is totally different from Ninja Gaiden.
Demon/Dark Souls requires a player to be very patient and work towards your goal slowly. It is tactical. Methodical, creates tension by making you lose something if you die. Its not a "ZOMG LOOK AT ALL THESE ENEMIES BETTER START HACKING" kinda game. In Demon/Dark Souls if you let that many enemies get around you, you are dead.
All that said...This is my most anticipat...
The cover with the knight hunched over with souls coming off is awesome. That is a non-generic great cover.
You are right,
But Demon's Souls beat UC2 for GOTY in Gamespots voting.
It beat UC2 for me personally as well.
