I did find it funny that one of the guys mentions Dark Souls.
Im looking forward to Skyrim a ton! Im playing Dark Souls right now and its hard to think of two RPG's that have have such a different approach to the idea of an RPG.

The game requires 100% focus on everything going.
Its the fact the game is so demanding of my mental facilities is the reason it is in my top 5 games of all time.
I thought the opera house in FFVI along with the attempted suicide scene was pretty "wow".
Dark Souls (and Demon's) are my favorite games this generation by a long shot...Further, both are in my top 5 of all time.
This game is brilliant.
The scope of this game surpasses Demon's Souls, but some of the ambition got ahead of itself a little bit.
The open world "castlevania" design is brilliant and the combat is just as satisfying as the Demon's Souls.
Demon's Souls is just a bit smoother all the way around BUT more simple. Simple in online play and mechanics.
I will probably give the nod to Dark Souls over...

It becomes a Skyrim v Dark Souls thing because avid Dark Souls players just want Dark Souls to get the recognition it deserves. Im not sure if you could get further apart in RPG game design than Dark Souls v Skyrim.

Just becasue battle does not occur through a menu or based on anime does not make the game a non JRPG.
Dark Souls isn't western either. Western RPG's (as they have devopled past the old school PC games), don't have 1/4th the complexity that Dark Souls has.
That being said, WRPG's world wide are doing much better than JRPGS.
