define "next gen games".

Interesting. and i thought consoles would have RDNA 2.0 tech exclusively for at least a few months.
turns out PC's going to have it months before. technically the next gen starts as soon as this architecture launches. even though ray-trace gaming started years ago. but at least now it will be official from AMD and for the consumer level.

The first thing Dream users did was remake a UE5 tech demo a day later. without animated characters or scenes. i'm more than sure Dream users will start recycling story and concepts of other games to prove that it can also be done in the game/tool.

right. the science behind game development is much different this time around for consoles. higher platform versions will be able to use features like ray-tracing, tessellation, extra physics particles, more characters and higher drawing distances. where these features may be absent in lower hardware.

the only case scenario where lower domination hardware would be an issue is if sony or Microsoft either sign for parity effecting maximum perform...

"A PC game modder addresses Final Fantasy 7 Remake's texture pop-in issues, describing the problem and whether a fix is possible."

"So in the end, it's possible for this issue to be patched eventually, but I wouldn't really keep my hopes up, and if they were to release a PC version in the future and this problem were to be still present, well, it can be solved by the players themselves eventually." 2064d ago 6 agree0 disagreeView comment

this is a good topic actually, for future games references on historically accurate depictions.
does 1 to 1 historically accurate designs and abilities lead to losing a game's personality and uniqueness.
Ryse had this same topic years ago. it worked for games like Red Dead, Mafia and L.A. Noire with not having outlandish concepts. but for Ryse it lead to feeling repetitive not being able to move like Dante or Ryu Hayabusa. even-though none of this existed in their cultur...

"This will allow game developers to bring in exact replications of real-world locations, physical objects, and even the physical dimensions of actors with ease, speed, and accuracy."

this. pretty much. it's main goal is to replicate real world data at a much faster rate. that would otherwise require sculptors (by the numbers) weeks to achieve. such as all of the imperfections that can be found on objects, plants or organics.

eventually all o...

had to pick this one up again. thanks to the remaster team. visuals now look a lot closer to a launch current gen title. it's a lot nicer of a transition to playing this old gem than before.

the tech demo was great no doubt. ray tracing though has many other uses. given that the tech demo did not need to render mirrors, or glass based objects; traditional material based rendering can be maximized.
with much of the rendering tasks being handled traditionally, it does leave other complex features to be utilize more efficiently or sparingly. ray tracing GI can also be baked if necessary. we'll just have to wait and see how developers choose to work with the new features...

"They have been quick to point out that the game will remain unchanged, but will use the new game engine’s impressive new features made possible by more powerful hardware."

i'm guessing it will have the same gameplay and artistic theme. but it will have now UE5 features.
so physics, lighting, and more polygons then? take your pick.

it's great that we are hearing more about Unreal's next jump in technology.
somewhat though disappointed that developers still have yet to scratch the surface of UE4's most advanced features. water and destruction physics. (which are from 4 years ago) plus the new hairworks, and ray tracing.
developers are just beginning to utilize tessellation (which is from almost 2 decades ago)
game development needs to be a lot faster no doubt to keep up with these...

i know. i'm so hyped about epic games acquiring cubic motion,

a lot of serious UE4 developers and indie developers should benefit greatly.

it is a bit conflicting isn't it. it's ok to play your purchased games in your own home but not over a network.
companies see there is extra money to be made. the likely of all reasons.

ray-tracing is a big concern. 4tflops would be just barely enough to do 720-900p ray-traced.
which ray-tracing is extremely artifacted at those settings. if anything that will only drive the sales of the XB1X as a much more cleaner, cheaper console.

this did kinda bug me actually. a good 25-30 hrs into the original game the player doesn't know a thing about him or what he looks like. cloud gets occasional flashes but even then he doesn't know who it's from. you don't actually get to meet up with him until 35+ hrs in (at the cruse ship) and even then it's just for a second. he is a very brief character turning up for a couple seconds at a time. this was great for the suspense.

(trying to give the best answer for this case scenario...)

it was initially optimized for 4k, with a variable frame rate.
some gamers preferred it to run at a constant 60fps. (their preference)
so it's not that the game is not optimized, a number of gamers wanted it at 60fps.

- secondary thoughts.
in this case situation it would probably just be better to support options.
so that if gamers want it in 4k with a varia...

right. just viewing the whole beginning it looks extremely polished and does not display any of the issues found later on in the game. that is a prime example of the priority for optimizing that SE put into some of the later parts. it'll likely be patched i'm guessing. which is common nowadays that all games get patches on first day and beyond.
