AMD cards have been able to output those ranges and use low framerate compensation for a while. Displays just haven't had to support it in order to earn the Freesync label, where as it is a mandatory part of Freesync 2.
The only part of Freesync 2 that older AMD cards can't already do is HDR. The PS4 Pro obviously can do HDR, but whether it can put the 2 technologies together is an unknown.
AMD cards (including Polaris) already support at least some of the most crucial elements of this. Freesync 2 mandates better freesync ranges to make sure that their low framerate compensation tech works. However, Freesync already supported the feature. It just wasn't mandatory.
Freesync 2 also supports HDR, and the situation with Freesync 1 and HDR is less obvious as AMD don't have any cards that support HDR so it's a "what if?".

Doesn't really need DisplayPort to support PC monitors. Freesync over HDMI has been part of AMD products for a while now, and a lot of the more recent of Freesync monitors include Freesync over HDMI as well as DP. That trend will only grow if consoles make it more fashionable.
It will be interesting to see if/when any TV manufacturers bother to include it. It isn't a mandated part of the HDMI 2.1 spec.

That isn't a proven fact at all. It isn't even observed in trends. You can bet your arse that if there was any hard evidence what-so-ever that dropping DRM would increase sales, every publisher would do it.

Unpopular as this will be, I gotta say Xbox handles this stuff the best (in terms of coverage more so than content). They cover E3 and such really well, and also do a weekly show about new releases and announcements.
