Not to be devil's advocate but coming up with a handful of high profile games one can assume are still far away from completion and forming an opinion one way or the other in the form of a paragraph some would hardly call "effort". Honestly, I've seen more effort put into some responses on this website than some of the articles they were commenting on.

Secondly, the only reason to put a "slideshow" style article is to get multiple page refreshes...

Disagree. Cards from packs can be bought in singles, sold, and traded. "But CCG's..." is not an argument. Cosmetics should be included in the discussion as they possesses far more intrinsic value for players, and given Activision filed a patent revolving around them it shows enough clear evidence they should be part of the discussion. Lootboxes are also a measure of pure greed as proven by EA in a letter to their shareholders stating the removal of the lootbox microtransactio...

No, I'm sure their parent company took a look at EA's stock being back on the rise along with EA stock still being at a record high this year in spite of it said to themselves, "Yeah, people will get mad but then they'll get over it pretty fast."

We are nothing more than cattle to be milked by these companies now, but first they have to make a barn (game as service) to funnel us into. Once we're being milked at their farm it becomes a lot harder fo...

If it's true games are becoming more expensive to make and AAA publishers need to make their money "somehow" then why on earth is it possible to remove loot-boxes and micro-transactions from a game like Battlefront 2 and have it not affect the company's bottom line at all?

@Opinionated I'm afraid you missed the point of the story involving cigarettes. It was an example of the lengths companies will go in order to gain profit I.E sell to children an addictive and health compromising product. It's a morality question. Yes, while not legally considered gambling currently, by all other definitions it is gambling in by which it is a variable reward system outlined by B.F Skinner which has been proven to alter behavior. Slot machines use the same type of...

I remember in the 5th grade going out to play at recess and right at the corner outside the fence to the soccer field was a tall billboard featuring Joe Camel. I remember when the billboard was a advertising a local car dealership. The cigarette company chose to put up a billboard featuring a cartoon character right outside a K-8 school.

My point? When companies smell a chance for increased profits and given wiggle room in the law WILL act. EA, Activision, Ubisoft, WB--...

ESRB was establish to observe and rate games to inform consumers of content--the ESRB has no authority over the companies.

Save for the lack of Android 17 as a playable character. I understand he's a part of 18's move set but I was hoping she would be part of his move-set as well leading to all kinds of shenanigans. I do hope I see him down the line.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Most Sonic 3D titles play more like racers than they would a platformer with Sonic on rails in scripted events requiring little interaction and reducing the player to the role of vigilant spectator. I agree Sonic needs to be developed as a platformer you can go fast in rather than an on rails "blink of blue" fest you input buttons for occasionally.

Can this really be classified as a shooter? "Hey it's a game where you shoot from a first person perspective and that's all it means to be a shooter." It's like calling God of War one of the highest rated puzzle games of all time. Or calling Ocarina of Time a hack n' slash.

Yes you shoot, but I certainly don't think people play Metroid Prime for the same reasons they would play Battlefield or Call of Duty. I've more felt the Metroid Pr...

@derksoolz
Yes I played through the entire game, I.E "all endings". Games like Mass Effect 3 and Dues Ex: Human Revolution have "choose your ending" as a simple a/b/ or c option and are snubbed for it. This game does it and suddenly "masterpiece" "what a brilliant piece of art". And this game didn't have the world building or interesting characters like the referenced games earlier

And I say if you ran through 2B's...

I've played Neir: Automata but not Recore, and my opinion of the former is: I feel the term "masterpiece" is quite an overstatement. While the game displays its visual them competently and the music, although reminiscent of the original "Ghost in the Shell", does a satisfying job in creating atmosphere--I fear the combat and narrative of the game leave a lot to be desired.

The combat is simply a means to an end, and makes God of War seem like Devi...

I'm not sure what the reality will be the for the USA, however. We won't see an end to micro-transactions or pay to win elements in games, unfortunately. People want an outright ban, but I fear what will happen is simply games with lootboxes will be given an automatic "M" rating and a special icon to let people know the game has micro-gambling devices. I can't see the parent companies of EA or Activision not lobbying against an outright ban or legislation which catego...

There was an article on the front page earlier sort of explaining the details of what happened between Disney and EA. Apparently Disney gave free reign to EA to monetize the license as they saw fit (the lootboxes and microtransactions). However, due to the backlash in the media and pending an investigation into lootboxes as gambling marketed toward children by a select few groups, Disney threatened to terminate the exclusive deal with EA unless things changed.

Which says ...

With those character designs? Tech not withstanding, Nintendo would give a hard nope in a heart beat. I mean Blade and Soul character designs make Bayonetta look Disney levels of modest.

Out of curiosity, why couldn't you write more about the specific games?

3088d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

Well I certainly disagree with most all of the authors observations. The game is clever in design only with how well it hides the seams of its production as every little quirk the game possesses is a simply designed method to pad the running length of the title and cut the development cost.

The questions Neir: Automata asks fall flat in the face of insufficient exploration of the themes. It's nothing to ask a question--you have to explore the concept. Many of the gam...

For the life of me I will never understand the appeal of Nier: Automata and its appearance on any sort of top list. It's like the emperor's new clothes--people are raving about it being amazing and brilliant because they don't want to seem like a fool, when in reality there's nothing to the game at all.

In terms of a fan-service secret boss from Final Fantasy, I'm not really sure who else they could include. By Nomura's own rule, he only includes characters he himself has worked on. The only reason ViVi was in KH2 was due to a fan vote in Famatsu I believe.

Sephiroth was a Soldier before going mad, and it makes sense he as a combatant would fit into Kingdom Hearts. Who else in Nomura's portfolio could possibly fit the slot? Ultimicia? No, she was barely in...

Genuinely a poor list. When I read a title like "Worst Male Character Designs.." I expect the author to have some grasp of artistic methods, aesthetics, and knowledge--but here all we get is a few sentences which add up to "dun like the character because they look angsty".
